You've two choices:

1. Have a high speed internet connection to use the Internet recovery, this will redownload Lion from the net. It took me 2 hours to complete on Unifi 5MBps connection. This requires you to have the recovery USB since you'll loose the recovery partition in your current HDD when booting up.

2. To clone your HDD into an external HDD before the swap. This can be done using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper, I've no experience in using SuperDuper but I've just did a clone/restore procedure using CCC and it works well. This will be the easiest option for you..

Hmm, I've a friend who deleted his Lion OS off his MBP within a day after he got it, and the self made Lion USB managed to restore the OS in 10 minutes without having to download anything. This was a MBP that came with Lion preinstalled btw.

I have the new mid 2011 13" MacBook Air, and to give an estimated time, about 6 hours on 50% brightness while surfing the web. But hey that's just an estimated guess. But I do know for a fact that it can last more than 4 hours fully charged.

When you said MBA 2011, is that the latest mid-2011 MBA with i5/i7 processor and Lion preinstalled? If yes, then during the setup, it should ask you to setup an AppleID or using existing ID.. If you log into AppStore using that ID, it will have that either as status "Installed" or "Install".. should be under purchases. If yours from the SL but upgraded to Lion, then no, you need the original installer.
