So far I have had to purchase two Ps3s (some people might consider me lucky) as my old and trusty phat PS3 recently 'died' due to YLOD. All my PSN games, saves and torphies are in there and I still haven't removed the old HDD and imported the data to my new one. :/

I think if the YLOD happens again, I will leave the PS scene for awhile and come back once the PS4 prices have dropped more.
*
for your case is really lucky. I've met a seller recently and chatted for awhile. He mention that he bought his PS3 since launch until now and still working fine. He is even luckier than u lol... 8 years adi he said... Envy~

Wow that is impressive. I have heard that the ylod is caused mainly due to excessive heating such as the ps3 being played for long periods of time without proper ventilation (like if the ps3 is in a cupboard and the hot air cant escape) then it is more likely to happen. Good for your friend though smile.gif
*
yup its really impressive... is my first time heard that as well. yup thats the issue i heard, but i would prefer to say its the flaw that produce by sony.

hi,

any forumer here can recommend repair man for YLOD PS3?

appreciate if you can pm me for area around Selangor / seri kembangan

Hi I will recommend u to buy new ps3 if u still have lots of plan for ps3. If no then leave it and get new ps4, because as I mention before no matter what kind of fix u use. Either reballing or reflowing or whatever fix there is, your ps3 will not last long. Although sometimes depends on luck. I've heard some can last a year or 2. Besides that fixing ylod issue is quite pricy as well for a temporary fix.

Anyway it's just my opinion. If u still insist want to fix it, I can try get some contact for u.

no display no sound. need long press to turn it off. I think it might be related with the gpu.
disassemble it and try some tricks on youtube. the penny trick. no luck. cry.gif  cry.gif

hmm maybe u can send somewhere to check regarding it. Have u tried on the RGB cable and reset the settings via hold the power button.

my phat ps3 YLOD recently.
If I wish to buy another ps3, which should I buy, super slim or pre-owned slim?
*
super slim would be better as it is brand new. I think.

QUOTE(gr8fr8 @ Jun 6 2014, 08:45 AM)
I am not sure if mine is YLOD or not, as it still can be turned on.

Basically, turn on, green light come out, BUT no display/video, and no green wifi and orange HDD lights on.

Prior to all that, I had to try at least several times before it can be turned on without sudden shutdown with blinking red light. Most of the time, can't play games installed on the HDD, like RDR. Some games like Dragons Dogma can be played without crashing or shutdown. Games played from BR works well.

Anyone experienced it before? This is the slim version btw.
*
I don't really understand your problem. What do u mean by unable to play games?

Well can't play games, in a sense that it would crap out on me. I mean like crashed, it would automatically shut down on its own with blinking red light. I am hoping it would the HDD though, but not sure as I don't have spare HDD to test it with.  sleep.gif

oh that is most probably ylod issue adi...

Yes most people had issue with the fat ps3 and bought the slim or super slim.

Mines ps3 fat YLOD a day before puasa... frustrated... but i blame myself... for not put the ps3 on well ventilated area... and the dust clogs the ps3.. well after reading lots of posting I made up my mind NOT to repair it... eying for the ps4 after watching the graphics... drool.gif
*
Yes I understand how they feels. It's really frustrated and i will just add is really depressing. For me that time I'm just a student who hardly can afford a ps3 and especially the original games.

Yeah most people wouldn't care about the issue until that problem happened on them. I don't care about it at first and when I got that issue then only I realize there are so many things which need to take care a ps3.

My Slim PS3 seems to be experiencing YLOD issue.

Having trouble starting it up. Press power button, it will sound twice then turns off and continue blinking.

Try a few times then only finally manage to turn on.
*
yeah some ps3 are like that, i had a fat ps3 before which it similar like it needed to be "warm up" once it is warmed up, u can play all u want. LOL

QUOTE(haroldz123 @ Sep 24 2014, 12:00 AM)
My ps3 got similar symptoms

But not yellow light

It just died, turn off n reboot after a minute or two during game or loading game

Read somewhere it could due to power unit

Replace the power, stil got problem

Open stock power unit n tweak the capasitor, stil got problem
*
then most probably is the ylod issue, since u have changed the power unit as well...

QUOTE(limyuyang @ Oct 17 2014, 09:34 AM)
Dear all sifu-sifu & guru-guru, I'm new to ps3, just borrow from my uncle. A few months ago, I still can play the ps3, but yesterday night, when I wanted to play God of War collection, at the beginning scene, right after the game started for 2 minutes, the ps3 will shut down itself and "beeeeeeep".  hmm.gif

So I google about that problem, some says it's YLOD, but I hope it's not. Because I'm still able to turn on the system, still can navigate at the front page, just cannot play games more than 2 minutes. Besides, I observe about it, when it shuts down, "beeep...." then it has yellow light first, then only red light keep blinking. So what problem was that ? I checked the fix for YLOD, it's too complicated for me, have to unscrew everything and take out all the parts, i dont want to risk it as im just a student. sad.gif

I even try to adjust my screen resolution, from 1080i to 1080p, still cannot play more than 2 minutes. Then i switch to 720p and the 3xx ( don't remember the resolution ), but this time the game works. Weird ! I got no idea what problem was that. At first, i thought it was because my tv can't support 1080, but my tv was a sony bravia, the manual says it supports 1080.....a few months ago, I played uncharted 2 with 1080i resolution also no problem, but this problem just happened since last night.  rclxub.gif

Really hope that someone could help me and give me advise as I'm just a newbie. Thank you. Appreciate it.  icon_question.gif

edit: I'm using ps3 slim
*
Just to be more specify. It is slim or super slim? yes regarding this issue it is most probably YLOD and I do not think you can fix yourself as this issue has no permanent fix even after reballing the PS3.

So you mean even if I send to the technician, they still can't 100% fix it ?
*
correct. this is the slim version and sadly yes, there is no permanent fix for this issue.

Hmm....just now I tried again.

Set up my ps3 vertically, and adjust the display to 720P, played 5 minutes Battlefield Bad Company 2, it works again.  smile.gif

So I think, the problem is because the game cannot support 1080 as I read the label behind the disc box, it says support 720 only. Do you think the problem is caused by the display ? If yes, I'll stay on 720P then.  hmm.gif

hmm i not sure about this. This is how a ps3 works if you put 1080p as default settings. When you played any game which only support up to 720p, it will automatically goes from 1080p to 720p. If you have a TV or monitor which will shows the resolution of your current display you will know how it works. This happened on my ps3 or my bro ps3 or my friend's ps3.

I do heard before some users said that maybe game 1 couldn't play at due to the issue you guys mention and then tried game 2 it works fine. You said previously u tried to play God of War collection and that happened right, then you tried with the current settings you had and play God of War Collection and try? It is good if that fix the issue. ^^

Yup, tried GOW at 720p, it works fine......can play at least more than 10 minutes and no auto shutdown. Well, guess it's my fate that I can't enjoy 1080p.  laugh.gif

Anyway, thanks for your info and helping, if I found any problem about it, will come back again. Thanks ! Appreciate it !  notworthy.gif

Bro, I think my YLOD issue is related to the HDMI cable.

Because today I tried to turn on, ( i haven't play anything yet, nothing boots up, blank screen ), then the YLOD issue came again. So i unplugged the HDMI cable, wait for a while, then turn on PS3, there's no YLOD. Later, I plugged back HDMI cable in. Then, i can play everything again, InFamous, Battlefield......

Does HDMI cable causes the YLOD issue as well ? Furthermore, I think my GOW also got problem. I played Battlefield for an hour, no problem at all, when i changed to GOW, my ps3 shuts down by itself.... sad.gif  sad.gif
*
I do not think is HDMI issue as HDMI is just to transfer video signal from the PS3 itself to the TV as I mention on the first post. YLOD are mostly caused by faulty Graphic Chipset or Processor or Power Supply. Like what u mention when you play GOW it shut downs itself and I think that GOW consume more graphic resources which cause your faulty graphic chipset unable to process that much and just back to YLOD.

Btw I would said that it is not HDMI issue, but I believe that many people outside such as Lowyat(I mean Lowyat Plaza) or PS3 technician would said might cause by HDMI cable. I have do some research on the net and I did not see any people said that HDMI will cause YLOD unless you bought a low quality HDMI which transfer bad current of electricity which will damage the whole PS3 instead causing YLOD.

Hmm.......... hmm.gif  hmm.gif Okay, I will contact the owner of this ps3 and ask him whether to fix or not because it's not my ps3  laugh.gif

BTW, if I first turn on my ps3, YLOD occurs. The second time I tried, it works again. So do you encourage me to keep on playing the ps3 ? Or wait until it fixed, then only play ? If keep on playing it, will it causes more damage to the hardware ?  icon_question.gif
*
for what I think just play it, as I mention to u before after the fix the problem will still return. It is just matter of time. The best solution to this is to get a new ps3, no point take to fix it as cheapest if is around 100 and most expensive will cost up to 300. I rather u take 100 bucks and add 600 to get a new one or u can try survey around lowyat forum which someone will be selling out used ps3 like around 500, but I could not guarantee you the quality.

my PS3 won't turn on but if i run a blow dryer on it (at the back of the unit) it will
so everytime i want  to play i have to do this first for a minute but it's tiring to do so what should i do to fix it permanently?

sorry for the really late reply bro... as i mention there is no permanently fix as it will comes back no matter how u fix it and do not blow dryer on back of the unit as it will damage your unit even more... the only way u can is just get a new ps3... that's what I got after I did quite an amount of research.
