Denmark prodigy Christian Eriksen leaves England and Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in the shade

England came with eyes on Jack Wilshere but, in Copenhagen, it was a Dane, once again, who was the young Prince: Christian Eriksen. Little wonder Liverpool and AC Milan are monitoring him closely.
Wilshere, we were told, was to play in the Claude Makélélé role but that was quickly eschewed. Wilshere played in the Wilshere role, trying to shape the game with quick darts forward and also setting the tempo from deep.

He played well. His problem was that Eriksen played better and, time and again, stole in behind Wilshere who twisted his neck from side to side to see where his rival had gone.

It was never in more evidence than in the opening minutes. Wilshere was caught with Eriksen 10 yards beyond his left shoulder and the ball was threaded through. The Dane ran on and it was only because Nicklas Bendtner had sprinted too early that he was offside when the ball was then played through to him.

Daniel Agger has denounced Fernando Torres for showing a lack of "respect" for Liverpool by joining Chelsea but admitted the Merseysiders' dismal start to the season had contributed heavily to the Spaniard's inconsistent form.

The Denmark centre-half has been a key member of the Liverpool side revitalised under Kenny Dalglish, rising to sixth in the table and six points from the fourth Champions League qualification place. The arrival of the £23m Luis Suárez from Ajax and Newcastle's Andy Carroll for a club record £35m could add even more impetus, potentially offsetting the £50m departure of Torres to Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard's move, triggered by a desire to leave Anfield, frustrated Agger. "It is unacceptable to play for one of Liverpool's arch rivals," he said. "For a Dane, it's about having respect for the club you play at. I am proud to be able to pull on my Liverpool jersey and will never go to another club in England. I would never go to Manchester United or Everton, for example. It's about a form of respect for the club.

The Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti was rumoured to be lining up the Rennes winger Sylvain Marveaux to replace Florent Malouda next season, as his contract with the Ligue 1 club runs out in June, but it has been revealed today that Marveaux has instead agreed a pre-contract with Liverpool.

The 24 year-old is currently injured, but his great record of 10 goals from the wing for Rennes last season had persuaded many teams to compete for Marveaux when he became available for a Bosman.

Marveaux was seen at Anfield in December for discussions, and it is being reported that Damien Comolli has now concluded the talks successfully and Marveaux will join Liverpool officially on July 1st this year.

Marveaux has had a troubling groin injury this season, and is scheduled to undergo an operation to fix it next week, so his next game is now certain to be for Liverpool next season.

Rennes general manager Peter Dreossi announced yesterday: “We will never see Sylvain Marveaux in the jersey of Stade Rennais again,”

“He has hardly played this season… Other players have taken his place and showed they are ready – Yacine Brahimi and Abdul Camara, for example.”

If Marveaux recovers well from his surgery he could have many good years ahad of him at Anfield.

if the story bout marveaux are true...I cant see we'll be going for this Lorenzo guy

Think one of the major drawback will be his built which it seems is too slender to handle BPL defenders, so is Suso. Both of them looks like under nourish kids compare to BPL defenders

samir nasri looks under nourish kids..he's not that bad is he??...fabregas is not that big either..lets not go into luka modric shall we..sorry bro i'm juz sick & tired with all these small slender slim player not suitable for EPL crap! shakehead.gif

I figure both u lot did came up against players of Shawcross size when young? It'll f***ing destroyed the players confidence when & if they did terrible against those players. They only way to blood them is thru cup matches ( which we edi screwed up by losing to the mighty Northampton) & few mins here & there in the league matches.

Some of those mentioned though small have some experience playing in full fledge leagues before BPL with the exception of Fab. I'm not sure... but how about compare fab to Pacheco & Suso? Last I saw, Fabs already a fully built guy compare to those 2.
& pls google Makelee , SWP & Zola, pics before saying they're slender & small frame, they might be short but definitely not slender/small frame. Their upper body strength may put some of the big guys to shame.
As for Nasri & Modric, I thought they take some times to get used to the league & also pack up some muscle compare to when they arrived.

Personally me think the physical part is important in the sense that it'll gives them more confidence when facing some big guys. Else it may mentally break them as well. Lets not forget that young players have the tendency to be mentally not as strong as matured players. At least by being able to hold themselves up, they eliminates 1 potential weakness.
*
Shawcross dont meet up with a midfielder like suso & pacheco ont the field right?...so a midfielder like suso, pacheco, sterling wont meet up with those big, tall CB...their area of the pitch wont let them to meet against shawcross or other big built C.B...of course big physical body gave u an advantage but its not the MUST HAVE criteria...nasri,modric do take some time to get used to EPL...so do a player called Thierry Henry!!..he's not that slim, slender right?

i bet while in liverpool michael owen was trembling like hell when he met against big brutal martin keown ehhhhhh

Tony Barrett

Raheem Sterling, a 16-year-old schoolboy, could become the youngest player in Liverpool’s history after he was named in Kenny Dalglish’s party for tomorrow night’s Europa League tie away to Sparta Prague.

Such is Sterling’s youth, he is able to make the trip to the Czech capital because he is on half-term holiday from Rainhill High School, where he is in the final year of his senior education.

One of the first moves Dalglish made after taking over as caretaker manager in early January was to promote the highly rated teenager to the A list of Liverpool’s Europa League squad, a clear indication of his growing belief that Sterling’s precocious talent makes him worthy of being fast-tracked into the first-team picture.

Dalglish was at Anfield on Monday night to see Sterling score five goals for Liverpool’s youth team in their 9-0 rout of Southend United in the FA Youth Cup, a glittering virtuoso performance that served only to underline why the Merseyside club signed him from Queens Park Rangers for an initial fee of £500,000 last March.

The Jamaican-born youngster was one of the final recruits of Rafael Benítez’s reign, although Dalglish, who was working at the club’s academy at the time, was also instrumental in securing his signature.

Given his age and talent, Sterling will inevitably be seen as a symbol of the renaissance that is taking place at the academy, a revival that will lead to three further products from Liverpool’s youth ranks being included in Dalglish’s squad for the tie in Prague.

Conor Coady, a midfield player who captains the England Under-18 team, and Jonathan Flanagan, an 18-year-old right back whose progress in recent months has caught Dalglish’s eye, have both been called up to the squad.

Jack Robinson, a left back who holds the record for being Liverpool’s youngest player at 16 years and 250 days, has also been included. But his record will be broken should Sterling be given any playing time in Prague as the England Under-17 player will be 16 years and 71 days on the day of the game.

The production line of talent that once thrust the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher into Liverpool’s first-team ranks had ground to a halt in recent years, prompting a recent overhaul in which Frank McParland was appointed as academy director and the Spanish coaches, Pep Segura and Rodolfo Borrell, were recruited to oversee technical development.

Benítez’s decision to utilise Dalglish’s expertise and experience by handing him a role at the academy was also significant, one of a number of changes that Dalglish himself believes is already paying dividends.

“That’s great credit to Rafa who brought in Pep Segura, Rodolfo Borrell and Frank McParland,” Dalglish said recently. “He reorganised the whole academy and you can see the benefit in the kids now. It’s fantastic to see. The reserve team’s average age has been drastically reduced.”

congratz to him...a player who scores 5 goals in a youth match deserve this reward! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif rclxms.gif
