well let's first be thankful that we have petr cech. saved us a point vs stoke who constantly barraged our goal. not many keepers would've withstood that kind of pressure, and cech put in a top notch performance for us to scrape a point. a few observations:
1. when ramires was taken off, we COMPLETELY lost control of the midfield. bad, bad decision from carlo. cech was no doubt man of the match, but had the brazilian stayed on i'm sure he would've challenged for that honour. yes he had some poor touches, but he always provided an option in the middle through his constant running, while being our most creative outlet. just shows how bad lampsy's doing eh?
2. our defence let us down big time. i don't know what got into them, but every time stoke attacked they look threatening. first minute goal was unforgivable and bosingwa, luiz, essien were all culprits here.
3. malouda, malouda, malouda. take off that blue shirt son, because right now you don't deserve it. has been poor for months now and yuri should've been brought in right after the break. i'd take a half fit yuri over malouda any day of the week now. heck i'd even take lalkovic. i still can't quite get my head around why malouda is 'undroppable.' i just can't. put yuri there. or put nico there and let torres partner drogba. do whatever it takes to get flomo pissed and performing.
4. still no decent service to the strikers whatsoever. didier's well taken goal was created by his strike partner nico, and it just shows how poor lampard has been. stop trying to score frank, we need you providing ammunition for our strikers or at least trying to. i'm not kidding when i say i'd rather have mikel in the team at the moment. at least he retains possession better, and always looks for a pass. lampard looks more concerned about getting his annual 20 goal haul to be honest. sorry to be harsh but that's the reality of it.
5. we have to stop our awful habit of hitting long balls whenever there's even a hint of a lack of space. it really was a sad and ugly sight looking at us just giving away possession again and again, because our midfield lacked the confidence to hold on to the ball. the worst part was stoke wasn't even parking the bus and yet we still smashed aimless passes upfield.
next up we have united. champions league is a different story altogether, but we're going to get mauled if we put in the same type of performance. based on carlo's rotation 'policy,' yuri will get a start. so in that sense at least there's something to look forward to!
ure right, lamps after injury is not the same old lamps. hes not effective as before. before this u cud see his long balls, passing was great but now hes about the same as malouda
our midfield sucks, they cant even supply the ball to strikers..awful n heartbreaking
