The headset does not produce any real 7.1 sound, it's just a virtual surround created by the USB soundcard (if you're buying the USB version). Not unless you want to have the same audio quality no matter where you go (vital if you're always on-the-go), then the non-USB version should be fine too.

It's a virtual 7.1 sound. From my experience, virtual is pretty bad and hardly anyone will use it. I tested a Razer Megalodon's virtual 7.1 mode as well, if I were to describe how it sounds like, it sounds like as if you are underwater.

Cosmetic defects are pretty much beyond repair, if they think that the defect is caused by their manufacturing part then they will have to replace it to be fair to the user.

Have you tried contacting SteelSeries about this? Also just to confirm that it is caused by the SP1 update, how about you roll back the update and see if it works again?

When it's new it won't fade completely, just looks a bit dull (like playing with the transparency effect in Photoshop). But when it ages, then it might just fade even more due to sweat and other causes.

Speakers is still a possibility though but don't think so it will be coming anytime soon. 3D glasses are likely to be a no no.

The QcK+ Tyloo edition was already available in Malaysia for quite a while but it is now out of stocks, no idea when it will be coming in again though.

Definitely no, you'll have to choose where you want to output the audio to. All you need is a USB port for the soundcard and that's it.

But don't count the 7H out too, the 7H is also an overall headset now compared to previous SteelSeries headsets with the 'H' tag in their models.
