Hi forumers,

I'm intended to make a review on a comparisons between the two latest HTC device because i'm having both in hands now. I think it will be usefull for some ppl who r having headache to choose between those two. (Coz i experienced it before until i end up bought both) the review will be merely based on my personal point of view, not very much technical (but i'll try to do it as much) . So, before i start, i wanna know if there is any objection on this. And maybe ppl can suggest what they want to know or compare.

Regards

I highlighted the differences in term of specs, please refer to both spoiler above, the RED ones are the differences. Now i would like to point some comments on the specs differences:

1. Size and weight~~ does it matter? rolleyes.gif

DHD / DZ
Dimensions: 123 x 68 x 11.8 mm / 119 x 60.4 x 14.2 mm
Weight : 164 g / 180 g
Display: (LCD) 480 x 800 pixels, 4.3 inches / (S-LCD) 480 x 800 pixels, 3.7 inches
YES, it does matter. DHD is bigger, DZ is smaller but yet DZ is heavier? shakehead.gif the main reason for the DZ weight is due to the aluminum unibody casing. But yes, it makes DZ tough and rigid! (might proteck u from a gunshot.. lol) but in term of size, DZ's is just right, and DHD is an average too big? i can resist the the odd feeling when i use the DHD, especially in public (feels like evrybody around can see what i'm texting to my gf blush.gif ) Bigger screen, what good it brings to me? its only 0.5 bigger than DZ. I dun feels it brings much better browsing experience, coz i still grab my laptop when my eyes feels tired when i browse the net using my DHD. in my opinion, 3.7 is just the right size. and , this one i'm not really sure: DHD with LCD display, the DZ with S-LCD display, are they different? for sure super-LCD is better than LCD right?

2. Sound. DHD have Dolby Mobile and SRS sound enhancement. thumb up.

BUT, i dun hear any differences shakehead.gif cool.gif maybe i'm sound deft, but it just sound similar between those two device. btw, when i need sound enhancement, u just need a better sound system. e.g. higher end headset or plug it to the high end sound system in yr room. that time u dun need the build in Dolby Mobile and SRS sound enhancement, because it will be superceeded by the externel sound system device.

3. RAM

DHD / DZ
768 MB RAM / 512 MB RAM

= 256MB differences in random access memory. a big thumbup.gif to DHD.

when u r choosing between DHD / DZ using this parameter, u really need to ask yourself what are u going to use yr phone for??

A. A gaming device
B. A phone and organizer and a bunch of apps to ease yr daily life.

Answered A? definitely grab a DHD. otherwise DZ will be enough. but again i need to ask, how many apps/games out there will push your RAM to the limit? im not expert in this area, but i think most if not all apps/game was developed to be run on average phones, 512MB is one of the highest RAM available on phones nowadays, thus it should be enough right, or is there any apps/games require more than that?

4. Camera~~ this is definitely will be a deal breaker for someone who is attempted to use a phone cum professional camera. biggrin.gif (but a pro photographer will never use a phone as a photographic device, their expectation is too far beyond the capability of a multifunctional device)

DHD / DZ
8 MP, 3264x2448 pixels, autofocus, dual-LED flash / 5 MP, 2592х1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash,

So look at the specs above. How can u use those specs to describe your pics? 5MP is good enough, no doubt, as ppl will not ask "is this taken with a 8MP or 5MP camera?" in term of quality, inspite of pic size, averagely the same. Please view the pics of the devices above, pic of DHD was taken using my DZ, and vice versa.

5. PROCESSOR~~definitely a deal breaker huh?

DHD / DZ
1 GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon / 800 MHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM 7230 chipset

Processor=performance. so i think everybody are wise about this. but strange enough, based on my observation, the is not much differences in the performances of the two devices. but ya, i havn't try to run the heaviest apps on both phones. but i observe based on: lets hear a bit of my story. hehe

since i hv a DZ, i can see there's a tiny miny lag. for instance, when 1 slide the home screen to see between pages, i can see some lag during the transition, especially with contact, msg and email widget on the screen (sometime contact pics need seconds to load, and etc.. i hope u understand what i mean..lol) so, before i got the DHD on my hands, i was imagining things should be super smooth on DHD with the 1GHz processor..but when i got it on hands, hmmmm...very similar, if not un-noticeable improvement in the performance. F.Y.I, i said this solely based on what i see, so dun flame me on technical things yahh.. haha.. currently, my DZ running on MIUI ROM. it is smooth, and no more the lag issue. so is it due to the ROM build? but ya, frens, MUIU ROM is SMOOTH. i like it very much. thumbup.gif

6. Battery~~major issue as for my own

DHD
Stand-by Up to 490 h (2G) / Up to 420 h (3G)
Talk time Up to 9 h 15 min (2G) / Up to 5 h 30 min (3G)

DZ
Stand-by Up to 430 h (2G) / Up to 430 h (3G)
Talk time Up to 9 h 50 min (2G) / Up to 6 h 40 min (3G)

today's portable phones are very powerful, multifunctional like it brings our every digital needs. but, short battery life hinders us to enjoy their functions to the fullest. am i right? gross comparison between the two device, UN-NOTICEABLE differences in battery life. but i will do some experiment on it. currently i'm charging both device to full, and after this will make the display on with wifi, data, bluetooth on for a period of time, lets see how fast the battery drains. anyone want to suggest how to benchmark the batteries?

CONCLUSION:

Based on popularity, DHD gained very much, but DZ seems to be quite overlooked. But why? Almost every aspects are comparable, and DZ is cheaper (and AP set becoming lot cheaper due to less demand), so which one to choose? brows.gif
i think, ya, like everyone would say, the major dealbreaker is only bigger screen or a physical keypad.

Does that 4.3" screen accommodate your browsing/viewing needs, or do u still go back to yr laptop? so does 3.7" is enough?
Touch screen keypad, lots of typing error and it makes u lazy to text yr gf? hehehe.. so do u need a physical keypad?
In my opinion, the pros of having a physical keypad are, 1. Fast and easy to type; 2. when u browsing internet, u can slide open the keypad, and u can still view the fullscreen while typing, but when using touch keypad, the keypad takes half of the screen, thus limiting the viewing experience.

And again, regarding the display size:

4.3" display offer bigger screen space. but, the UI is same with DZ (yes obviously coz both using Froyo 2.2). so instead of the 4.3" offer bigger display space, the DHD just offer bigger buttons and bigger fonts. same goes to Galaxy Tab (i owned it before) is just a bigger Galaxy S. understand what i mean?

^ do not confuse/delude yourself with the speedy bootup of the HD and the Z. They are not entirely full reboots. They are at best a form of 'hibernate' found on laptops and PCs. A full reboot still takes as much time as a bootup of other androids.

Though it's undeniable that this 'hibernate' function comes in handy when the circumstances call for it.

A full reboot usually takes up at least 10-20sec or even more i'd say. Had a DZ and found that hinge is still loose, but it wasnt a problem for me as i usually hold the phone entirely.

ya when u turn off the deice, its actually only in hibernate stage. still consuming little amount of battery. for normal boot, i think we can un-tick the fastboot option in the setting, or by taking out battery.

review will be out next monday..just dun hv time to observe and write yet..hehe..and also im using DHD now, just to get the feel.

Well to tell you the truth, both phones are almost similar, htc sense and whatnot, I believe the dealbreaker would be either a bigger screen or a physical keyboard. Others are too minimal I would think.
