i love jpe modem so much. battery hardly drop on idle!
*

u mean dxjpb modem rite? coz dxjpe rom still using dxjpb modem though. yup, the idle is slightly better compared to xxjpy modem.. maybe because it was meant for our region.

Hi, I'm having a problem with video call. My video call always blank (black) even either with "show me" or "hide me" or switch camera. I can see opposite ppl i calling, but he cant see me, with only blank I had tried many friends but always blank on my phone only. Also blank in Tango video calling.

Anyone know the solution?

I'm using stock xwjs3 since last month. But not sure when it started to have this problem. Which apk is relevant to video calling?
*

How do u make that video call? with data (eg 3g) or using wifi? I do know that some apps for video calling such as skype and ym doesn't work with our sgs. I've made few video call before (with data) and the recipient can see me. That was with stock dxjpe rom. Not sure if its rom related or not. Maybe others can help to guide u tongue.gif

that the new batch maybe, so GPS already fixed
*

Lucky them! That means its hardware related rite?

Just tested different modem rite now. Unfortunately, i cannot conclude which modem has the best combination for fastest+stable fixed. They vary each time i tested. This includes zsjpe, jpp, jpx, jpy, dxjpb and dxjpa.

Btw, new gto ultimate is out! very smooth without lagifx+low memory killer option(hc ver is fixed)+350mb ram with 720p video recording! cool2.gif

When I tested the GPS on the SGS earlier, I don't have GPS aids enabled, cause I haven't got time to fiddle with the settings yet.

I thought it's more for power saving?
*

A-gps is power saving coz its not using gps to get sat-lock. It uses data from telco network instead. The biggest power draw from any phone would be gps. Enabling a-gps not only make it faster to lock, but also make it more battery friendly.

Btw, have u tested your friend gps again just to double confirm it can lock within 25sec?

Not sure should it be enabled.. I've tried enabled it. Guess what? Quadrant score slightly lower and battery consumption slightly higher than turning them off! Maybe this happens only on mine.. hmm.gif Btw this was tested on k13b

in progress now. stock ROM from kies + speedmod 13b + enable recommended tweaks + enable lagfix (ext4).

quarant score 1329. not bad.

i hope battery last longer.

seem that my sgs dated 2010.05.28. any gps fix advice?

thanks again!
*

To test the battery life, wait for few cycles then only the battery will perform at its optimum. For gps fix, start first with downloading GPS Aids from the market. Further inquiries bout the software can be tracked on this link.

I've posted few gps fixed. U can traced back to my previous post. Not sure it will help u. But it did helped me! Just make sure u have nandroid backup just in case something goes wrong!

somehow it makes the phone smoother i guess, battery drain not really an issue on my sgs
Probably! That's why the quadrant score slightly lower in exchange for a smoother interface! But i don't really mind bout the quadrant score as its not a good measurement of how slick the phone is

Firstly, why out of sudden zsjpe modem ought to be the best modem for gps? To me, it is worse than dxjpb (our region) modem. The best from my previous findings would be xxjpy/xxjpx or dxjpp modem. Tried that one first.

Second, no one seems to bother to look back at my previous post about the best combination for gps fix... cry.gif

@holypredator

U have to understand, big manufacturer like samsung won't admit that they have wrong design for gps. Even if our sgs has a poor design for gps, they still pretend as if nothing wrong with the current design. Why? That would cost them a lot to replace the whole batch!! Imagine how many sgs were sold for the past few months!

So they quietly fixed it through latest sgs batch. That's how manufacturer can maintain their profit.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

From the fixed that i performed, i can get lock at an average of less than a minute for cold start. For hot start would be less than 10sec. All this test performed indoor mind u. Different phone would have different result. So never expect that one fix would fit all hp.

QUOTE(holypredator @ Feb 19 2011, 06:13 PM)
I doubt they would do that... theres no Benefit in doing that also..

If you study marketing ... the PLC for Electronic products would reach its peak very fast....

After the initial batch is release.... whats the point for them to even fixing it??? and in SGS case its most probably the hardware design .....

Why would they want to Re design an Old project that already reaches its PEAK in sales ..... they are just incuring more cost in having the engineer redesign it ... and furthermore the cost of testing the new design would be expensive...

And as you know samsung releases new model sooner than most other phone manufacturer ...... The Nexus S is an example....

Fixing a hardware problem isnt changing a software ... it requires physical temperament of the hardware itself ... and any changest doesnt come cheap..

There is also no evidence that they actualy redesign the hardware what so ever.... so far it is just forumers "CLAIMING" that newer is better ...
*

Fact is no one knows whether they have changed the design or not. I'm just making a wild guess because one of our forumer's friend newly bought sgs get a sat-fix less than 25sec. Do u have a better opinion on how his sgs can get such a fast fix?? Maybe there is no definitive answer on this gps fix..

However, if anyone of you have difficulties in getting satellite fix, i suggest u to go and try all the gps fix that's available. It won't do harm than your current gps rite?

No hard feeling k!! tongue.gif

QUOTE(holypredator @ Feb 19 2011, 06:38 PM)
well... My SGS got a fix in less than 30sec in my room

Outdoor i got a fix in less than 20sec....
Mine is because i on it with data..... and im one of the 1st batch ppl
Last time on STOCK 2.2 firmware without data... i can also get fix less than 30sec..... but at some places for some reason "if you search the old thread ... ive talk about my lock with stock firmware"
Answers Varies alot .... but i can assure you that redesigning the phone hardware is Plain impossible .... if they change the GPS chip alone ... customer could just request for that particular fix ... which doesnt make sense either...
Like i said b4 ... it is pretty much the same case like the papago thing mentioned earlier ..... Some people might felt positive about it .... some are not satisfy with it...
*

Well his friend get lock less than 25sec without data (no-agps) mind you.. In fact no sim card was present in that phone and it get lock in a room! How do u define that? Since 'hardware fix' by samsung simply not possible for latest batch (based on your thought), i guess his phone is the luckiest out of millions of sgs!

Btw, on the papago display showing 15m, that is not the accuracy my dear. If you zoom out, the number would increase! from 15m>17m>20m>25m>30m>40m>60m>80m. This number indicates how far the distance you are viewing from the actual map. If you are using gps test, then the accuracy (meters/feet) itself is the actual accuracy. Don't try to confuse yourself with it. Our sgs can get accuracy of up to 5m only. Cannot get below than that. On normaly condition, i do get accuracy ranging from 5m to 30m (but mostly its on 10m) Depends on the weather too.

Dear sifus, flash to speedmod kernel nid to backup all my stuff (e.g. Apps, sms) ?
I heard tat most of the backup app need to be rooted. Im planning to root my phone from speedmod there after i hav flashed it.
*

Nope. Flashing kernals won't delete all your stuff. If you install new rom only there's a possibility it might have been deleted.

i just download the ZSJPE modem.. the .zip recovery and the .tar odin one.. but i see there's a big dif with this two file.. where the .zip file size is only 4.02mb and the .tar is 12mb..

is there any different between two of this? which one should i use? smile.gif
*

The .zip recovery is meant to use with cwm. .tar odin is meant to use with odin. U can flash which one that suits u! No difference at all. Some prefer flashing with odin, while others prefer with cwm. biggrin.gif

no one mention it is the BEST  rolleyes.gif  i just want to experiment with it, cause I me and my myself felt that it is better than other modem,
if you dont want to do it, then dont, i just shouting that i need help from other user to check does they feel the same, or is it just me.

i read your post, and thought want to give it a go, so i download the aids first, then if still suck i jump on the epic fix.
*

Haha. Im not pointing at anyone. Its just that out of sudden everyone seems so excited to flash to that modem. Then when it doesn't work, start complaining. It don't work that way. Again, im not pointing at anyone.. biggrin.gif That is why, different hp sometimes requires different modem to get best out of it. The best is to test all of them. Maybe u should posted a selection of modem to be tested and let the result speak for themselves. Rite? tongue.gif

ZZZ i know that already !!!! Im just using Papago as an example.... Since my accuracy is around 10-15...and i got good positioning when i use google maps but papago to me is not as accurate as what the other user here that say it is accurate....  and if you read through the thread... alot of users also claim that papago isnt the best chocie for GPS @ android....
So im just using that as an example that not all user might have the same thought and they think that their GPS for newer batch is better for one reason or another... or easily satisfy .... and i already knew about the zoom in and out thing .... Why the hell do you need to mention it?? i never state anything about it when i was replying to u.... and if its because its due to my old post... you should also know that theres a post acknowledging this matter....
Back to the 1st paragraph.... thats what he claims .... it might real it might be false or it might be heavily exxagerated you would never know..... cause my friend SGS set dated around end of december ... is the EXACT same performance as what i felt in my SGS .....

You might say he no sim card.... there maybe other option that he might forgot to mention like wifi?? even so.... maybe its a HOT START mistaken to be COLD START ... you might also wont know...

Or there might be possibility that hes in a right place or position for the GPS to work (just like what i mention about my Stock SGS experience)
*

zzz.. yes u are right and u always do.. happy now? biggrin.gif

woah!? from the SS.. we can record voice call with that rom? cool..
is there any other way that can make us able to record voice call? biggrin.gif
*

Well if you are talking about recording voice call, it is possible actually. U can record voice call both ways (the caller and receiver). Loud and clear! Currently im using VA green phone.apk to do the recording function. U don't necessary have to install the theme, only for the phone.apk. Doc also releasing the voice recording as well but it always give me fc on the phone.apk itself. Give it a try!

The link to va green: link
ps. Install the VA GREEN phone through cwm.

those theme work with stock rom? especially the latest one.. XWJS5 ?

It won't work on stock rom. Coz the rom needs to be deodexed. Normally all custom rom has been deodexed.
