Awww tempting 668b... From all the reviews i read so far... 668b is the best bang for buck right... Other cans have got impedance too high for direct output from my mp3 player/laptop. 50+- Ohm should be nice for my laptop. I think that's also the max my laptop can go without an amp... Others with 150 ohms can't be considered at all... Sweat!

50ohm is quite easy to drive. my iems are 50ohm but i feel tat on the fuze a little more juice would be better. just feels a little lack in power
*
I don't think my phone (Nokia N82) can drive 50 ohm well. When i'm on it with 32ohm can, at 100% volume, barely satisfied me. But my laptop, a dell studio series should be able to drive it loud.

ei ei is there any possible way to buy like loose pieces of 3.5mm jack smth like this?
user posted image

just without the in, just the metal tip?
*
You mean just the 3.5mm male plug without cable and need soldering on your own? If that's the case, yes and depends on the quality you want. Some gold plated/silver plated this plated that plated then more exp. I got one before... From pudu, cost me RM2(or 1.5 for student price) only xD

Impression on HD669

Last time I was impressed with HD668B with it’s superior clarity and soundstage which in the end becoming the best money can offer on that price range (around Rm150). However I do notice some flaws which is critical at some people.

The harshness on highs may cause an annoyance to people who are sensitive to sibilant.
The pads aren’t that comfortable when listening to music for longer periods of time.
The infamous “death clamp” on HD668B which can cause headache for some people.I personally having that problem during the first time wearing it for couple of hours.
The bass aren’t that impressive for some people (slamming type of bass which will not sound great on heavy bass oriented songs).

Those are the same reasons why I do suggest getting HD681 as well. While the HD681 itself is cheaper (around less then Rm100) they do provide warmer sound signature and more comfortable wearing for longer listening session.Unfortunately HD681 has it’s own flaws as well (the mids albit recessed) which brings me back into square one. However things has changed on that particular day.

My friend managed to grab one unit of HD669 and he invited me to come over to do some impression on it.The setup that being tested is pretty simple (just an onboard soundcard with HD669 plugging into it).Not that I have any issue with it but that would be sufficient really since superlux headphones are usually targeted to people who started their audiophile journey due to it’s affordable price.

Wearing it out and i was impressed with the comfortability that the HD669 provides. The headphone pads are pretty soft, soft enough for proper comfort that I found it missing on HD668B.The clamp itself aren’t that tight either, giving in better comfort overall.

Sound quality wise I found that the sound signature for this particular model is warmer compared to HD668B.The highs aren’t that harsh while the mids are forwarded altogether, just like I wanted it to be right now.I also found that the soundstage that the HD669 gives is pretty astounding compared to HD668,larger then what I expected it to be due to the fact that HD669 is using the closed headphone design which provides some isolation from outside sounds while at the same time sacrificing a proper soundstage altogether.Micro details can be heard pretty clearly especially on instruments, something that you cannot experience easily on either HD681 and HD668B.The bass is not that punchy enough unlike HD681 which makes me believe that HD669 would be nice only on those songs that doesn’t involved much on bass (acoustic songs, etc).Things getting interesting once I plugging it into another audio setup through..

Yes the differences are big, on "ooAoo SQ210a+" soundcard, the bass is getting albit overpowered until it overwhelms most of the sound sprectrum.Did you remember the micro details that I mentioned earlier? They aren’t there anymore unless you focus really hard. The soundstages are the same with the onboard ones through. After several tryouts with different type of songs I can conclude that the HD669 is really sensitive on sources and amplifiers.

Overall HD669 can be considered as bang for bucks at it’s price range.Great comfort, sweet sound signature as well as good closed can design which can isolate the outside sound pretty well.Really great for those who wanted an opposite of what HD668B can offer atm. smile.gif

How do I knw if my source able to drive it or not ?
*
Why don't u just tell your "sources"(i think more than one device right~) and see whether anyone is using the same thing. But normally 150Ohm... Normal device can't drive them. Only those with amp like hippo gumstick/cube can drive them without external amp. Other device, use an external amp in order to drive ur cans xD

Not so correct to use the term dac only la. Coz like... any mp3 player, any laptop or any desktop and phone nowadays have dac. Just how well they perform. So... your statement is only half correct. lol

Acer... I think just forget about it. At least from all acer laptop owned by my friends, they couldn't do it. Acer can only capable of driving 16 ohm earphone loud and mid to low for 32ohm headphone. I don't think acer laptops can drive 50ohm cans. Even yes, very very low volume. Need someone to clarify this. I just give some opinion here (been lurking around for a month). Waiting to own a superlux though. Poor student. xD

Really?? I've tested 3~4 models of acer laptop and some of compaq. All can't satisfy me at 100%... It's just sorely my experience and i wanted someone to clarify that right. Haha. Thx for clarifying ya.

Loudness is not the only thing we talk about here. Let's say for the HD668b which has 56ohm will still be loud in the laptop. But with an amp, all sound will become very balance.
Most of the time if you only use it with under power source, you will have less bass and even lost some of the high freq.
Again loudness does not give any meaning to audiophile unless it's a balance sound.
*
ya but... i think impedance do actually affect the loudness that user can listen right? But it also depends on its sensitivity i know. But as listed, a headphone/earphone has own input impedance. When the impedance is matched with the output impedance of source, maximum power can be transferred but when its impedance is higher than output impedance of a source, it needs more power to drive it. Am i wrong? It's like. My phone... I don't think it can drive a 600ohm cans. Is this theory correct? I'm still new into this. Need to learn step-by-step too. Just sharing what I understood so far.
What I'm experiencing is. My 32ohm headphone can satisfy me @ 50%-- volume on my laptop but when used on my friend's acer, 100% still can't satisfy me. It happens to my 16ohm earphone too. I own 2 16ohm earphones. Both goes loud enough on 12% volume on my laptop but 100% on my friend's acer laptop. This should mean my friend's acer laptop(sorry for forgetting specific model.) dac got lower output power compared to mine. Is that right?

Manage to test 669 and HD660 today at Jalan Pasar..  price a bit higher than at lowyat.net. Demo set is hook to Superlux and Samson headphone amplifier. I didn't bring my Fiio E11 today cos not really expected to test any headphone. doh.gif

699 sound nice but lack of bass, not sure the demo unit already burn-in or not, still look new.  For real, 669 really need an amp, my Samson can be drive by my Cube at volume level 10 -17, but 669, even at full volume, still not enough juice. I really like the pad, comfortable than most Superlux model. Softer but the headband is no no for me.

HD660 sound also the same as others but I forgot to test with my own Cube. Just with Superlux own amp, which is not good enough for me, and their source is crappy Ipod, no flac lol. The demo unit pad and headband so call 'leather' torn out to piece.  doh.gif , something that I really hate happen to my headphone.

I might go there again to test after raya. I bring my own amp, Samson and Shure to compare.
*
Mind to share where in jalan pasar you test those cans? I went few times to buy electronic component but didn't notice any shop selling any cans...

Lol... What I mean is... If going serious into audiophile world... DAC, AMP, headphone. All money, lots of money xD

I've got the HD381F, not in my hand yet. ~~ Next target might be a C3 that has amp and flac playback capability and then only get some OHMED headphone. Else I got no juice to drive HD660 too. hehe... Long long long long plan. whistling.gif

laugh.gif finally got my hands on my 381F blush.gif

built quality~~ no comment

included sleeve was too big (even the smallest one) to my preference. Took the small sleeve from Hippo Groove and it fits just right into my ear. Less leaks too~
381F, bass is just enough for me but not for most of my friends who are kind of bass head (I thought I was a bass head but then I knew I weren't because there are more BASSIER head than me.) xD cool.gif cool.gif
