Impression on HD669Last time I was impressed with HD668B with it’s superior clarity and soundstage which in the end becoming the best money can offer on that price range (around Rm150). However I do notice some flaws which is critical at some people.
The harshness on highs may cause an annoyance to people who are sensitive to sibilant.
The pads aren’t that comfortable when listening to music for longer periods of time.
The infamous “death clamp” on HD668B which can cause headache for some people.I personally having that problem during the first time wearing it for couple of hours.
The bass aren’t that impressive for some people (slamming type of bass which will not sound great on heavy bass oriented songs).
Those are the same reasons why I do suggest getting HD681 as well. While the HD681 itself is cheaper (around less then Rm100) they do provide warmer sound signature and more comfortable wearing for longer listening session.Unfortunately HD681 has it’s own flaws as well (the mids albit recessed) which brings me back into square one. However things has changed on that particular day.
My friend managed to grab one unit of HD669 and he invited me to come over to do some impression on it.The setup that being tested is pretty simple (just an onboard soundcard with HD669 plugging into it).Not that I have any issue with it but that would be sufficient really since superlux headphones are usually targeted to people who started their audiophile journey due to it’s affordable price.
Wearing it out and i was impressed with the comfortability that the HD669 provides. The headphone pads are pretty soft, soft enough for proper comfort that I found it missing on HD668B.The clamp itself aren’t that tight either, giving in better comfort overall.
Sound quality wise I found that the sound signature for this particular model is warmer compared to HD668B.The highs aren’t that harsh while the mids are forwarded altogether, just like I wanted it to be right now.I also found that the soundstage that the HD669 gives is pretty astounding compared to HD668,larger then what I expected it to be due to the fact that HD669 is using the closed headphone design which provides some isolation from outside sounds while at the same time sacrificing a proper soundstage altogether.Micro details can be heard pretty clearly especially on instruments, something that you cannot experience easily on either HD681 and HD668B.The bass is not that punchy enough unlike HD681 which makes me believe that HD669 would be nice only on those songs that doesn’t involved much on bass (acoustic songs, etc).Things getting interesting once I plugging it into another audio setup through..
Yes the differences are big, on "ooAoo SQ210a+" soundcard, the bass is getting albit overpowered until it overwhelms most of the sound sprectrum.Did you remember the micro details that I mentioned earlier? They aren’t there anymore unless you focus really hard. The soundstages are the same with the onboard ones through. After several tryouts with different type of songs I can conclude that the HD669 is really sensitive on sources and amplifiers.
Overall HD669 can be considered as bang for bucks at it’s price range.Great comfort, sweet sound signature as well as good closed can design which can isolate the outside sound pretty well.Really great for those who wanted an opposite of what HD668B can offer atm.
