popfish: better, surely the sal50 F1.8. the KM50F1.7 is just 'beneficial or smarter' choice if u ever plan to go FF. but the SAL50F1.8 has more beautiful color and get sharps really quick at F2. but even if u ever wanted to go FF, u probably will upgrade to a SAL50F1.4 anyway when the times come. so just get the 50F1.8.

ahpingko: i believe its the highlight protection priority thingie (if there is such thing, albnokkkk need u clarify), the metering will try avoid highlight (burn out/overexpose) spot in the photo, because highlight is harder to recover then pulling/level a shadow out. try use QLV for better metering (seriously)

ahtiven: TQ

popfish: yes, i wont refer it as sharp color, but a minolta color (sweet saturated) and metal build doesnt mean better (atleast better then plastic build of 50F1.8) hence ppl uses these points to say its better choice. to me, its just a smarter choice, not a better one.

u see, metal build, means heavier. the 50F1.8 is a lot lighter! and future more, it has SAM, anytime in future u might get a SLT (since 70% of future alpha is base on SLT) and u will love it when u record video with a SAM lens!! and the coating for 50F1.8 is better with flare control and it is more contrasty (boost AF lock also).

so doesnt it makes the 50F1.8 even better future proof choice?

mentioning about sweet spot, 50F1.8 definately has its sweet spot at F2.
while the KM50F1.7, u might get a sharp unit at F2, and u might not, u might get a unit with sweet spot only at F2.8 or F2.5

popfish, yea, sadly, owner of 50F1.7 will raise their arms and shield to defend that lens tongue.gif

serious, just get that 50F1.8, the lens has nicer bokeh too. anytime u can sell it without much loses, and buy the 50F1.4 when u really really going to FF.

the SAM will make huge diff if u upgrade to A55/66/77 in the future.

kysham: hahaha, after using D7k, the only thing i like is the mirror sound... good for my birding only... i still prefer my 'now cacat' A300... ~.~

RoT: i tot many website reviewed and said, A580 and D7k is the same? but with A580 having more feature and the multiframe iso give more clearner iso(but not practical) then D7k?

the worst thing i ever try to find in nikon system is to reset the file numbering, it is not same page with format card, but hidden somewhere else with the camera fn settings... F rite? it took me and 7 other aka PRO nikon user 2 hours to find it... at last, it was a new nikon user who found it for me... muahahahaha.... then sold the D7k... *evil grins*

it`s SAL75300 good?
*
the 75300 optics is not that great, as long as u have controlled light, it should have no problem, but under sunlight and 150mm to 300mm, CA issue is really big.

my opinion is to get
SAL55-200 for rm500 and below for 2nd hand
Tamron 70-300 for rm 800 new or below for 2nd hand
SAL70300G for 2.7k new (or around 2.5k below for 2nd hand)

55-200 is highly recommended if u are in a tight budget.

macro word always misuse bah, lens like sigma, loves to use the letter macro with almost all their lens. its just a marketing term.

old lens has old issue too, if the lens is from film era, and its pretty cheap, chances are, they will not be as sharp as new digitally optimized. but, the expensive old lens are diff story.

I really had no idea that A580 is on par with D7k, good to know that  rclxms.gif  Well yeah A580 do have more features than D7k, but by the multiframe ISO u mean the "handheld twilight" mode? I've tried that out but it just couldn't match D7k's high iso noise...Somehow D7k seems to have lesser noise even at ISO 6400..But that is what I felt la, from what I see.

Lol yeah I gotta agree that Nikon's user interface sux ass.  shakehead.gif While having hands-on with my friend D7k I seriously have no idea how to access some more advanced function, and d menu just look awfully crowded..Definitely not a newbie friendly DSLR.

not hand held twilight, its accessable from the iso button, the first option, multiframe, the 12800 iso damn clean IHMO, D7k 12k iso farrrrr from reach ler
