try macro to the subject Head and make sure the background is green(leaf) which is my idea....overally the picture is boring

ermm... i would say bring everything you have? not that much to bring, to be honest. your 16-105 for general shooting & group photos. 55-200 for those skodeng moments and the 50mm f1.8 for details shots. camera & flash of course need to bring lah. So basically, from your list of gears.... everything that you have. 

if you do consider yourself as a newbie, then you would probably want to try everything at a wedding ceremony. but do remember that you are not the OP, so you do not need to shoot everything. someone has already covered that. instead, concentrate on areas which you think you might want to improve your skills on. For example, you might want to improve your shots on details in a wedding ceremony. So practice more with your 50mm f1.8 and use the exceptional capability of the prime lens to separate the details you want away from the background & foreground.

of course, you will be asked by family & friends to shoot their group photo as well. so that is where your 16-105 & flash will come in handy.

OK, some honest comments. Hope you don't mind. And this is coming from a non-macro shooter like me....

The reason why your 1st photo is not working is because there is a lack of separation between your subject (the lizard) and your background (the cement block he is resting on). You can almost feel that the lizard is almost blending in to the cement block. Good for the lizard to avoid being eaten by a predator, but not good for photography! If you compare that to the 2nd photo, you will immediately see that the lizard stands out more in the 2nd photo. That is something you should always try to keep in mind. Tip for you: background is as important, if not more important, than your subject. think before you shoot. That way, you save yourself some time processing the photos later and also improves your skills much faster.

First things first, the picture is not good to begin with, so any sort of PP wouldn't improve it. No offence, yea

I'm also a non macro shooter, but afaik, don't shoot from a Bird's Eye View because it doesn't give your subject dimensions or the perspective needed for macro photography. Have a look at some pictures here, I'm sure you'll get what I mean :

You can try shooting from the side or from a low angle, most importantly(again afaik) you gotta fill up that frame with your subject. You gotta make your subject look BIGGGG Your picture is about your subject, not the background! So emphasis on the subject should be first priority~

Anyway, it could be your gear limitation also, since 50mm in some cases might not give you enough reach. Time for a dedicated macro/ tele lens

it's NOT about photography anymore, newbiee is one of the kind who is new to the line(so as myself) and the reason he prefer to quote something here mean he respect the members in the thread. He believe(I Believe) as "one big family" they can share their situation and question together for discussions and seniors were to guide him.

Therefore, he doesn't need comments and quotes which doesn't related to what he requested earlier...it just pure common sense.

Don't think you guys know the actual situation of a ly.net members on the internet over a single situation desctiptions...you never know who they are and what situation they are in...non-logical feedback are not necessary to anyone...

Kit Lens range is ok edi what...it's multipurpose lens as stated ...
if you want to take Better Photo.....

....My Ultimate Advice is to go to SEE MORE people photos and get their Ideas...

Automatically you will have the dedication and New Idea yourself

try to google for photo sites....our member here make great photos too..ask(stalk) for their photo sharing site/flickr sort of things...

i see many people here take nice photo with it ma....
just idea problem...get some fresh idea of your subject and your picture to looks like

outdoor kitlens is ok edy..
indoor maybe need flash..

sometime you need to imitate others idea to create yours....you get what i mean along the time
