Did you use external micro sd card as it is necessary to backup your data.
And how much data you have on internal sd since you say nearly full. Did you see any message of success backup and success conversion to ext4 before it boot into recovery mode The error message you stated is normal |

Sorry if i misunderstand. The ext4 you are doing is a kernel and file system change . It is not a rom. Once you have this done you install new rom just by flashing the rom zip file in recovery mode
Added on February 15, 2011, 5:09 pm QUOTE(sphiroth @ Feb 15 2011, 05:03 PM) Since I've flashed to roto rom 1st, my internal sd card is wiped clean,. internal sd wipe clean shows kernel file damage. You can still flash rom but no internal sdNo message of successful backup/recovery. Go to download mode. Flash rotohammer JME with repartition selected and Pit file last question i hope you have your bootloader unsign before you did the ext4 change after you have flash jme patch bootkiader again before trying ext4 change This post has been edited by benny888: Feb 15 2011, 05:09 PM |

QUOTE(sphiroth @ Feb 15 2011, 07:12 PM) Suspected the same thing. Gonna get one tomorrow. BTW, changing to ext4 will not delete anything right? Since right now I'm downloading all the apps back to get my Tab back to the way it was before I flash rotohammer. No wonder. You must use external card needed to backup your stuffsBTW, I noticed that my internal SD has a lot of free space after wipe clean by flashing (11GB++). Before when I bought the tab, only 6 GB free. Maybe someone at the digi centre download/play-around with my tab before me (demo unit). normally available internal card space to install is about 12 to 13 gb depend on roms |

QUOTE(MAAG @ Feb 15 2011, 08:47 PM) First this function must be enabled by your telco or it could be already auto enabled. AFAIK it can only be applicable for postpaid accountsYou can do this at : Settings/Call Settings/Call Forwarding - there are 4 options to choose ; just key in the number you wish to be diverted. You will receive a successful message immediately if activated I forward ALL my calls to a mini small 15 year old Nokia phone. I find this very convenient without worrying about how to take the call especially when driving and on the move. I can return call on my TAB or my Nokia as I wish. I am on postpaid Celcom and every call divert to my Digi Prepaid I just need to pay 10 sen per call divert irrespective of time. I was told if divert from Digi to others - call charges based on time is applicable. Maxis - not too sure. Go and find out if you are using Digi or Maxis Added on February 15, 2011, 10:04 pm QUOTE(ajay67 @ Feb 15 2011, 09:28 PM) still is recommended.. although i still haven't got mine yet This question often ask by my friends. Knowing I am a gadget freak and always changing gadgets, they think I could give a right answer. Honestly there is no right answer. My advise is DON'T follow the crowds ; follow your heart and ask why you need a tablet and what features is important - the answer is already thereAnyway , I have used the iPad for 8 months and now only less than a month on the TAB - these are my 2 sen opinion. Take it just as a guide - there is nothing right or wrong here - just my opinion. Some you might agree, some you won't TAB : Pro's : great Portability and versatility in features, customization , good office work substitute, great ebook reader, very good internet browsing, excellent and fast email and twitter client, comes with office suite, Cons : Default UI is not very smooth ( just replace it with say ADW, Launcher Pro or Zeam ), battery life lose out to ipad - continuous video 7 hours, a lot of apps are poor quality but you have 150,000 to choose from , so getting a right one is not a problem iPAD : Pro's : Great gaming machine , excellent ebook reader not so for mags as still need to pinch n zoom plus scroll up-down and left right to read, plenty n tons of apps to experiment, very slick smooth UI, great video player ( but only Apple's approved format ) , great audio player ; flawless sync with iTunes if you don't mind using iTunes to manage your collection as cannot done on ipad itself, excellent battery life 10 hours on continuous video, great beautiful classy build Cons: Poor browser with very limited features which is just an expanded iphone version ( need to replace with others ), not so suitable for work creation as the keyboard edit function is decades behind and horribly difficult and slow ( a disappointing effort from from Apple ), limited file transfers capability unless JailBreak , 3rd party video players on avi, mkv , rmb generally is poor unless convert to Apple's approved mp4/m4v format, poor email content download usually 3 to 5 secs or more , with attachments just got to wait ( download header is fast only ), average Twitter client, heavy and your hands pain with prolong usage, no inbuilt office software - have to buy US30 for iwork or US15 for say DocsToGo or QuickOffice This post has been edited by benny888: Feb 15 2011, 10:04 PM |

QUOTE(MAAG @ Feb 16 2011, 06:16 AM) still confuse and not understand what custom ROM need I upgrade, look at RotoHammer link hav JMI, JME, JMG..also hav v2, v4... Did you convert to Modaco's EXT 4 file system ? If so , Rotohammer rom will overwrite it and give you back RFS file system. Rotohammer or any rom - go for the latest version which is based on JMI firmwareMr Benny, which one need I flash? My device: European/International/Unbranded Galaxy Tab and unsign Recommended EXT4 roms based on JMI firmware : Overcome 1.1.3 or Modaco R1. You won't go wrong with either one. I cannot tell you which is better as different people different needs. Similarly to asking which is a better car - a Vios or a City, Accord or Camry, Benz or BMW ?? Spend some time reading up features of the roms and user's comments so you have a better idea |

Some observations using the overclock kernel 1.4 Ghz ; I have overclock it to only 1.2 Ghz: Besides noting an increase in UI performance
1. Battery usage gone up considerably, I estimate by 20 % 2. Battery temperature when charging hits up to 41ºC , normally 34-35 max. But I never faced charging problems issues faced by some guys using this O/C kernel Anyway I have reset it back to 1.0Ghz max . Trying the 1.4 O/C was just a test. It might be more useful for gamers who demand a greater performance This post has been edited by benny888: Feb 16 2011, 11:41 AM |

QUOTE(Hico @ Feb 16 2011, 06:14 PM) flyer vs tab!
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « The HTC flyer looks more bulkier and not so streamlined as the TAB. I feel the name given to this new HTC tablet is poor - it immediately connotes an impression of something cheap, unimportant and easily disposable. LOL !!Added on February 16, 2011, 8:22 pm QUOTE(haxri @ Feb 16 2011, 12:23 PM) hey guys, anybody bought the bluetooth keyboard? how was it? is it worth it? and where can i get the keyboard? thank you Plenty of choices in Ebay - price ranges from US$ 29 to US$55. Actually any bluetooth enabled keyboard can work with it unless you are looking for a perfect fit as an added accessory to the Tab. I tested a bluetooth keyboard bought for the iPad - works well This post has been edited by benny888: Feb 16 2011, 08:22 PM |

QUOTE(kelvin_tan @ Feb 17 2011, 12:12 AM) Somehow I notice my tab lags and sometimes programs auto shut down. I already minimized my ram consuming items. I'm not using live wallpaper or anything. Minimal number of pages as well. My home screen doesn't have Widgets but I do have a few folders. Anybody can help? Are you on stock rom ? If not , what rom are you on ? What Launcher UI are you usingThe stock default Touch Wiz is not so smooth and will show lagginess What types of apps you have - give examples of system utilities apps I am on Zeam Launcer ( previously ADW ) : I have 6 homecreens, 12 widgets and I do not practiced using task killers - my TAB doesn't lag , it is very slick and smooth. It is so smooth and slick that today only I compare it with my partner iPhone 4 - he was actually shock as he has impression Android UI very laggy. I do not faced any auto program shutdown Actually using Android you don't have to worry and control stuffs like what you are doing/stated above - it is different from Windows Mobile. The OS will take care everything What are your memory readings : Download QUICK SYSTEM INFO and advise. I have about 100 3rd party apps installed Mine : A2SD : total 1.87 Free 1.01 GB Internal Storage : total 1.87 , Free 1.01 gb System storage : total 315 MB, Free 30.58mb System cache : total 30.75MB, Free 25.86 mb Memory : total 443 MB, Free 176mb, IDLE 46.51MB This post has been edited by benny888: Feb 17 2011, 01:37 AM |

Further to my earlier post #421 above , I noted the said user bought the TAB as a new set from USA and it was a locked T Mobile set. Besides the need to unlock the sim, his TAB cannot recieve/make calls as this function stripped off on most USA telcos. So he'd need to also have his rom reflash to allow phone functions. Even with sim unlock, the data feature limited to only internet access and no SMS/MMS sent is possible. All the solutions to unlock sim and allow phone calls are unofficial solutions from XDA . Recieve SMS I'd think is possible
So any potential buyers thinking of getting a used or new USA set ( very much cheaper ) - better don't as I just researched and found that most USA telcos block out the phone features - T Mobile, ATT, Bell , Rogers to quote a few This post has been edited by benny888: Feb 17 2011, 01:48 AM |

QUOTE(shinzan @ Feb 18 2011, 07:58 AM) Mr Benny, need ur help now...kindly refer to my post #439...my Tab currently cannot load after changing file system to EXT4...please... Call me 0132288833 and describe what you didAdded on February 18, 2011, 8:47 am QUOTE(arbelnox @ Feb 18 2011, 07:53 AM) a quick question Both are equally good but you need to have default rfs fs converted to ext4 filesystem first. You wobt go wrong using either one. Which one is better? OC Rom or Modaco Rom? Also, does changing to EXT4 really increases the device speed by a lot or just minor that can be hardly noticed? Am thinking of flashing my Tab after sticking to Stock ROM since my 1/12/2010 purchase... thanks!! The speed difference using ext4 is obvious Install modaco ext4 at sametime install recovery function which is useful to flash new roms, complete backup n 100% successful restore. Keep a working nandroid copy and you need not worry experimenting with kernel n rom as modaco recovery feature is fantastically good. This post has been edited by benny888: Feb 18 2011, 08:47 AM |

QUOTE(arbelnox @ Feb 18 2011, 09:58 AM) Thank you... You can install this Modaco rom only through using a RECOVERY MOD program. The Samsung default recovery I don't thinlk allows you to do it. Unless you have already installed either Kousch recovery or Chainfire recovery mod - than you can use these tools. but according to Modaco's XDA thread, it seems the latest ROM has RFS --> EXT4 conversion bundled together, so does that mean I can just flash my Stock ROM RFS based directly with MoDaCo ROM? When you do a Modaco EXT4 conversion, only will the Modaco Recovery is installed same time |

QUOTE(shinzan @ Feb 18 2011, 10:42 AM) Finally i flashed it back RotoHammer JMI... Make sure your external micro SD card has sufficient space left to do backup while the files are being backup and converted - I'd suggest at least 2 to 4 GB free spaceDont know what happen before...will try it again later... Added on February 18, 2011, 11:06 am QUOTE(arbelnox @ Feb 18 2011, 10:54 AM) thanks.... so I guess I should do the following: 1 . Download the right TAR file : there is one which convert kernel to R3 but maintain default RFS fs system while the other convert kernel to R3 and convert fs to ext4. Changing kernel to R3 will not wipe your data1) Download the EXT4 TAR file and Flash my File System to EXT4. 2) Make a Nandroid Backup with the installed ClockWorkMod from Step 1. 3) Download the MoDaCo's ROM and save it on the root of my SD card 4) Enter into Recovery Mode --> Wipe the Device --> Update ZIP file and wait for reboot Is it correct with the steps above? By the way, will the step 1 clean off all my data? Thanks 2. The nandroid backup will backup fully your current rom with all its apps/data/settings - you can later use astro file manager to rename this backup file to something simpler and recognizable ; infact is a good practice example i will rename it as 12febMOdacoR1revison3 , 11febStockrom, 11febOvercome112 etc etc. This nandroid backup is important just incase something goes wrong, you can switch off tab , go into recovery and restore back your original rom with its data Step 4: It is good practice to wipe clean before flashing new rom - I always wipe data/factory reset, cache partition : These steps will give you a clean start and avoid issues brought about by older rom remnant files. shinzan : If you have reflash to Roto JMI - check again to see whether your radio/modem file is OK ?? you will see no data detection and settings/mobile network is greyed. As JMI zip file does not come with the radio/modem builtin files. If so you have to reflash again using Odin 1.7 - just falsh the radio file in PHONE - select no repartition, no need PIT just select PDA. Get this JMF radio file :
http://android.modaco.com/content/samsung-...eband-download/ I'd advise to better flash Roto JME if TAB gets stuck as JME will give you back a full working rom to use temporary . Or if you wish to use back JMI when flashing include in the JMF radio file in PHONE Added on February 18, 2011, 11:17 am QUOTE(arbelnox @ Feb 18 2011, 11:10 AM) okay... thanks... now having clearer picture... YES when you install R3 kernel the clockworkmod is install same timeJust to be sure... ClockWorldMod will only be installed upon changing of Kernel is it? Are there any Variants of ClockWorldMod out there for Tab? I'm afraid of getting a Recovery Mod Program that is not compatible with ModaCo Rom.... thanks!! There are others : Chainfire CFRoot and Koush these are meant for RFS file systems Modaco ClockworkMod can be use to flash all other types of EXT4 based roms - example Overcomes This post has been edited by benny888: Feb 18 2011, 11:20 AM |
