My Grandfather always say this. But to me it sounds so traditional.
Is this Old saying still relevant nowadays? Do you still believe in such things?

I did not go to SRJK ( C ) so that make me a banana. I pick up chinese on my own after leaving school.
Back to your question, I think corruption is the reason. There were no police those days. The military enforces the law. So good guys pick up bad habits when they 当兵. |

QUOTE(don^don @ Jan 25 2011, 03:38 PM) so many stars and u duno unker google? Sorry I made a typo. I mean to say I CAN translate. By the way had you not notice I type chinese in the second post.btw, it means "good men are not soldiers", hope u understand that. Since tS had not objection to have it translation, the proper translation is "Good men dont enlist themselves in the army." |

好男不当兵,好铁不打钉
这句话是解放前旧政府抓壮丁、土匪横行时传流的,用在历史上还可以。 这可不是偏见,古代 兵 指主将身边的侍从,一般不去冲锋陷阵,好男不当兵是指从军也要投身前线去冲锋杀敌 好铁不打钉是指好铁要打成刀枪武器,铁钉最早发明于军中,起初是为钉马掌的。 这句话越来越被人误解,现在成了这个样子 |
