I'm planning to switch to timothy hay + cavy performance+ vege combo coz i'm worried about the white pee. That should be ok for a 3 month old piggy right? Somehow i don't think its safe even when it's not coarse.
*
3 month old.. cavy performance is vital (alfafa based) .. they need the calcium to grow.. after 6 month old.. only u switch to cavy cuisine....

QUOTE(ix3Rukia @ Jun 30 2011, 06:46 PM)
It may have mange mites. My gp had that too , he lost his appetite , fur lost and eventually died.

dont give ur gp so much veggie! it causes its stool to be watery and its not really good. I heard people recommend giving bread to guinea pigs.
*
if no bald patch it is not mange mites.. 1st sign of manges mites infection is u look at their eye.. if got crest.. it mean there is sickness.. then look at their paws... if it is dry there is sickness.. then u monitor the weight.. if keep on decreasing 30-50g per week..there is sickness...
veggie is a must but must feed the correct vege la.. i know alot of people feed them with cucumber.. for all i said.. cucumber is nothing but water no nutrient wat so ever.. it is jus a cooling food.. a big no no on tat unless on road trip.. giving bread to GP.. (full wholemeal bread is ok) they actually love it.. but try to avoid the white 1..

QUOTE(shoduken @ Jul 1 2011, 05:43 AM)
I'm so sad. I have 3 very active and cute guinea pig. One of them suddenly lose interest and always getting tired and sleeping in the corner. His nose breathing have sound and eventually mucus blocked his nose breathing and he have to breath thru mouth and causes wet chin. He been struggling with breathing until he's very tired and no interest to walk around.

I send him to vet after notice his condition getting worse. Docs said his lung isn't good from what she hear thru her stethoscope. She said my guinea pig condition is not good but she is relief that my guinea pig is still active and can still eat and drink, which is a good thing. Now after 2 days living in cage at the vet, my guinea pig is getting better but his eye show me that he is still weak.

I heard guinea pig with respiration problem (URI) are dangerous and mostly end up dying. I stopped giving him dried food, and feed him more veggies and fruits b4 the day I send him to vet. I heard giving them timothy hay is better because of high fiber which will aids his immune system. I also give him slices of apples as vitamin C supplements.

Anyone have the same problem before that you can share? I really hope I can do more for my guinea pig if it help him in his recovery.

Cheers.
*
it is best to reduce the amount of vege and fruit at this stage.. try giving oxbow critical care .. use warm water with a drop of tea tree oil to clean his nose area every now and then.. increase his hay and pellet amount if he can eat la.. but try to syringe feed him with critical care from oxbow..

for manges mites.. normally is tropical cream for the injuries and revolution /ivermertin for the mites (but need to be careful as these two require weight to ratio the dosage)

Oh icic! Thanks for the detailed informaton!

Is there any topical application for ivermectin instead of injection? It said to be the only way to cure mites.

Next week i will b going to kl, i will go look out for powder suitable for my gp. Btw, how often cn we use d non-talc powder on gp?
*
ivermertin is injection... very painful to the piggy.. revolution is topical application.. but it act the same way as ivermertin.. need to know the weight of the piggy b apply.. usually apply to the spot between the ear there.. it is only given if u really have a mites, or lice issue..

After doing night shift, when I reached home, to my horror, I saw Mocha having a reddish wound on the back, seems with some blood too, at the rosette connection part. I dont know is it due to dry skin or banging on the cage or mites.

My dad said, this morning, she went in and out the dorm and run very fast around the cage, so he thought she might just hurt herself?

I am so worried, maybe I shud go to the vet and get some advice =(

I know this may sound strange but... when I fed a baby carrot to my GP (which was her fav food BTW), she was too gung-ho in eating the carrot that she choked, coughed and moved her body in a manner like, she is trying to throw up whatever that she cannot swallow...

I managed to get her to cough out a very small piece of the carrot that seemed to be causing her trouble by using two fingers to tap on her back and her chest....

was wondering if anyone has had this problem before?
*
pls cut the carrot into thin strip nex time..

Danitang:

yes normal.. but they will eat when u are not looking after they saw their mom eat it...

Yes, its American Short Hair.

I see, short of Vit C... which Vit C brand do you recommend? I know that there are powder Vit C, which is either sprinkled onto the food or diluted in water and the tablet ones... which to use?

If it IS mites, what should I look out for? So far, I've read that mites are usually on the body itself... not on the toe?

Should I add more Cabbages/Brocolli/Carrots to her diet?

Usually she eats 3 leaves of romaine and one baby carrot for breakfast, two baby carrots, one thin slice of cucumber and 2 big leaves of romaine for dinner... once in a while she gets some treats like 2 slices of apple instead of the carrots, or some guava (without seed of course) in exchange for the cucumber... ... ... I just realised my GP has a very variable diet... but the most common that I feed her are romaine and carrots

Added on August 3, 2011, 11:47 amThe recommended vet on the 1st page... can I know how much, on an average or a range, he charges for a diagnosis?
*
Ur diet lack vitamin c .. I dont feed them any suplement vitamin c... As feed them vege which is high in vitaminc c.. Such as pepper @ capsicum. The consultation will cost around 19-50 depend u get shot or not..
