I just bought my new piggie sunday, at pet exhibition mid valley. At Booth PETSMORE. The piggies just look like texel, but i not sure, because my fb friend said this may be not texel breed. And the price too cheap, RM63. What you guys think?

Her name is caramel.. smile.gif

QUOTE(Princess90 @ Jun 7 2011, 11:41 PM)
Oh my god. I really need HELP from forumers here regarding my guinea pig.

My guinea pig is slightly over 1 year old. Around 3 weeks ago, she was having fur loss. I brought her to Dr. Yeoh 2 times where they said its fur mites. They gave her some medicine the first time and asked me to go back in a week. The next week, they gave her the medicine to eat again.

Her fur loss was fine but today I found out she is having this fur loss again. Her fur loss happens at her butt.

I feed her Oxbow food, Oxbow hay, carrot, lettuce, cucumber once a while, baby tomatoes. Nothing wrong with her diet. I am suspecting the cat litters causing it as I had just changed her fleece blanket after her first fur loss.
Please help me...  sad.gif

Thank you
*
u are feeding oxbow pellet timothy or alfafa?
ur diet lack vitamin b which is vital for hair / fur growth..
try introduce capsicum and celery or spinach and banana into the diet u can also give vitamin b for dog (hair care in a very small dosage.. )

I do feed capsicum. Forgot to list it down.  doh.gif  Every day I feed 1 piece of it since the second week I got her.
Timothy pellet.

So is the fur loss still about the vitamin b???
I just pat her and brush her fur, more than 20 strands of fur came out. Last time only 1 or 2.
*
yup hair lost is due to vitamin B.. some species need extra to care for their long hair.. and u need constant grooming as well.. if the hair loss is not serious until got bald patch it is still consider acceptable.. jus be sure to groom them once every 2 days.. as human ourselves suffer hair loss as well.. jus try go bath c how much u loss and swept the floor c how much u loss.. sweat.gif

continue ur current oxbow pellet.. until 6 month and above.. it still can be fed after 6 month but in a 1:3 ratio (1 is ur current: 3 is the cuisine)
peeing calcium is normal.. no worry there..

*

i just tried picking up my Yu Wat and cuddle with her.. she makes this sound, which supposedly mean she is happy, but she seems nervous.. though i cant be completely sure, since this is my first GP, anyone else care to share their experience?

as a note, she also makes the same sound when i stroke her back from head to tail, using my fingers like a comb. After a few stokes, she just seems to "melt" to the ground.. biggrin.gif
*
bonding well i c there.. tat is the sound of feeling syok.. sweat.gif

cant be too sure.. coz she seems so reluctant to let me pick up...

anyways, im giving her a small piece of treat whenever she lets me pick her up and cuddle.. 1/4 slice of an apple.. should be a good idea, right?

and i removed her dome already.. digging into/under the fleece towels now.. always have to re-line it every now and then... think its a good sign though...
*
wat cage u r using? i use fleece as well.. same like u .. my piggy like to dig into the fleece as well.. hence i go buy another coroplast same size as my base and i wrap top part of the coroplast with the fleece then place on to the base.. then only place another layer of morning towel..

hi guys...i'm going to adopt a GP by next week, what should i need to get ready before I bring him home??
he's already 1yr +...
is a hiding house a must?as i read from your post saying that they will become timid...by the way, they need hiding house to sleep or they can just sleep w/o any hiding area?
and ah...can they keep outdoor in a cage??

thanks in advance for answering my question ^^
*
Hiding house is optional..u give him.. He will tend to stay in it lor.. u dont give him..he also like tat lor.. Nothing happen.. no out door keeping.. There is a risk he will be attack by cats or any other preditor.. U wanna keep outside ..it is best u have a rigid cage with small gap only.. Must be a close top 1.. If not.. There will be a risk lor..

you can practically get everything at Daiso stores..

wire grids, baskets (as a hay rack, if you want), connectors and/or cable ties, ceramic bowls, plastic bowls (just cut away an opening and turn it upside down, to make its hide house), fleece (100% polyester).. those morning towels, can get at practically any hardware store..

get some good hay, pellets, and 1 pig or 2, bring to a full boil and leave it to simmer for at least 20 minutes before serving.. oh wai-
*
the leaves no need to boil de la.. serve fresh after rinsing in water only sweat.gif

maresh88:
yes .. wat hay u feeding them now? try introduce orchard hay .. less stalk more leaves...

lan244:
use the google search button or search in this thread... it has been ask million of times shakehead.gif

yeap yeap ... and if u using the every 8 minutes way... u have to notice if she is eating .. cause if she eat pellets and chew on hay, then u have to make sure the water is ready there .. cause she will need to drink to help her to telan the food or the mouth too dry after chewing .. as human also u need drink water when u eat le right??

orelse u prepare a few pieces of clothe ... once its wet .. change it ..  nod.gif
*
me.. 7 hour drive.. i remove the water bottle completely.. as the car when driving will sometimes shake shake here shake shake there.. the whole cage flooded up 1st b4 my piggy got a chance to drink.. so i bring with me wat i call as water treat..carrot, capsicum (pre-sliced and kept in a zipper bag) in their cage i place hay + pellet in their food tray.. kawtim.. thumbup.gif the water treat give them once every 2 hour and during stop at R&R give them their water bottle to drink a while.. tat it... it is advice the bedding is from cloth type/ fleece type.. this is for absorbency .. most of the time they jus hibernate didnt move much maybe too cold.. lol sweat.gif

something suddenly came to mind.. how heavy are your GPs? i just weighed Yu Wat.. 370gm @ 2 months 3 weeks..

is this normal? it says my GP should be around 500-600gm, according to HERE
*
2 month old for malaysian breed.. at 370g ok la.. if below 300 then got problem liao.. once u began to weight liao.. monitor any big changes like 50-80g drop or sometimes.. those are indicative sign of sickness.. nod.gif
