2015 AFC Asian Cup: Bad news for Saudi Arabia

AFC will most likely use the 2011 AFC Asian Cup performance to seed the teams for both the preliminary competition and the final tournament of the 2015 edition.

Outside the top 8 (quarter finalists), the standings are already known.
09. China PR
10. Bahrain
11. Syria
12. Korea DPR
13. United Arab Emirates
14. Kuwait
15. Saudi Arabia
16. India
============
17. Oman
18. Yemen
19. Thailand
20. Singapore
21. Vietnam
22. Indonesia
-------------------
23. Lebanon
24. Hong Kong
25. Malaysia
26. Maldives

Most likely the top 3 in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup will be automatically qualified for the 2015 edition.

If Australia finish in the top 3 and the 4th placed team gets a bye from AFC to the final tournament, or Australia don't finish in the top 3, the qualifying setup will be the same as for Qatar 2011. Assuming the same teams and Korea DPR participate in the preliminaries, here's how things will look like:

First round
Pot 1: Lebanon, Hong Kong
Pot 2: Malaysia, Maldives

Group stage
Pot 1: China PR + worst of the top 8
Pot 2: Bahrain, Syria, Korea DPR, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait
Pot 3: Saudi Arabia, India, Oman, Yemen, Thailand
Pot 4: Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia + both winners of first round

Saudi Arabia in the third pot. If Korea DPR don't enter the preliminary competition (as they did this time), Saudi Arabia will climb to the second pot.

Note:
-For teams 17-26, their seedings are based on their performance in AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualification
-Teams 23-26 are the 4 worst performers in AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualification

What happened to the Malaysian AFC Cup representative? Did we simply lose our place?

And Sabah's back up again in the top league (whatever the hell they choose to call it now).

Last time I followed every game, it was by radio. Anyway I can get at least radio commentary for matches online?

Initially, Malaysia should have 2 representatives for AFC Cup. Champions of Liga Super (Selangor) & champions of Piala FA (N9) but they pulled out because no imported players

AKace, i continue here la since its more appropriate here.

haha i mean after this round of qualifying etc. Hopefully the fighting spirit can see us making an impact on the qualifying. If not qualify, hopefully we are one of the "nearly" teams, rather than the "pressure on opponent to score more against us to compete with the other 3 ala India".

If we are lucky, we might end up with a slightly bright group like this:

Jordan (Pot A)
Syria (Pot B)
India (Pot C)
Malaysia (Pot D)

If luckless we might end up like this:

Iran
Korea DPR
Saudi Arabia
Malaysia

Kinda dumb though. Singapore not being allowed because they had foreign teams, maybe understandable, but no foreign players?

Alright, found a Radio Sabah stream online. Some rhythmic Malay announcing and my imagination and I will get the match in my head!

sadly yes.... what a bunch of sissies...

why would India try so hard to qualify to Asia Cup?

Or North Korea to the world cup, if they afraid to get beat...?

its an honour and good sparring opportunity to play against team better than us even if they have imports and we dont.. this mentality by state if FA is why our football in the doldrums all this while... the choose to wait and wait and wait and wait..until things "get better" before they want to do anything...

stupid...

absolutely. what a waste. to improve yourself, you have to play with the best. i do think it's more to a business decision making (i.e. if not going to win it without imported players why bother spending all the money to enter the competition in the first place) rather than a footballing one

my local team Kedah went into the AFC Cup few seasons back without an imported players and while we didn't progress far in the tournament the players did benefit a lot from the experiences

yes.. we complained that we dont have enough competetive games for the national team.... but here we are.. the state FAs rejecting a good competetive club matches in front of their eyes... what a waste..
