I guess this is a common 'option' instead of getting the demolish and cart away the old parquet. Some ppl live-in, so they don't want the mess.. if the old parquet condition is still ok (ie. flat, no major damages here and there) then this can be done. For me as I'm moving out of the house, so i get the contractor to demolish the existing parquet, cart away debris, and prepare a new flat surface in preparation for my new laminated floor..and this cost money.

I am getting some quotations and I like to ask a lot of questions and see their replies...

Some of the parquet tiles are coming out...he came to quote onsite and did not even check the parquet before replying with a stupid answer.

its very common for laminate timber flooring install direct on/ above existing tiles/ parquet/ cement floor, of course there is a layer of rubber material in between, we call it "floating system" nod.gif

I just ask the same question to Houz Depot(HD) recently. HOPE IT CAN HELP YOU!
Here is their reply:

HD : The installation cost for laminated flooring is around RM1.70 per sqft inclusive of base.
ME : What is "inclusive of base"? RM1.70 included to removed the existing old parquet? if not, how much the cost?
HD :
The technical term for the base is called "Underlay". This is a soft layer made from PP material to get a better feel of the laminated flooring. The cost of installation does not include removing of existing parquet. Normally, the laminated... floo...ring is done over the existing parquet (if applicable) unless the parquet has been seriously damaged by white-ants or rotting. The removal of parquet is a simple job but troublesome on the part of the occupants as it encompass heavy flushing of the parquet with water. This process might affect the other rooms or whole house. The cost is RM3 per sqft. The installation is done by professional contractors that have been approved and authorized by Houz Depot.

ME:
Thanks. How abt skirting? can done over the existing skirting? If laminated floor install on top of existing parquet, will it have better touch feel than install on cement floor? Should i go for 12mm if install on cement floor?

HD:
Hi.. The old skirting will have to be removed prior to installing the laminated flooring; this process would probably damage the skirting especially if it is relatively old, thus warranting new skirting to be installed for a more stylish look. The lamination over the existing parquet and on cement floor will be the same in feel. The difference in feel is determined by the type of "underlay" used as the base. An underlay of higher material grade will give you a better foot-stepping feel. The choice of height in skirting is really up to the liking of each individual; it is not affected by the type of floor (cement or parquet). Do drop by Houz Depot for a more complete quote and advice from our professional advisors on flooring. Alternatively, we can arrange for a tele-consultancy any time convenient at no cost to you.

My house has parquet, and the pieces are coming out, and lots of dust underneath n in between gaps. The other problem is termite...

My neighbour replaced his parquet and his Indon crew came in and cleared it all in less than a day, I suppose if u recruit your own guys, it wld cost u max of RM300 to RM400 to take care of the labour cost (RM60x2) and cost of hiring a lorry to throw it away.
