Kuching airport closed temporarily

KUCHING: The Kuching International Airport has been closed Tuesday until further notice, a Malaysia Airports Bhd statement said.

This is becaused of an incident Monday night, when an AirAsia aircraft (flight AK5218 from Kuala Lumpur), skidded and veered off the airport's runway 25, when landing at 10.02 during heavy rain.

All passengers were evacuated safely from the aircraft.

Efforts to remove the aircraft Tuesday were hampered by continuous heavy rains.

An AirAsia flight to Kuching skidded off the runway Monday night and landed on the grass verge, leaving four passengers with minor injuries.
Only one flight was released for departure from the airport, flight MH2505 to Kuala Lumpur.

All AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines flights from the airport have been effected.

Passengers are advised to contact their airline's offices to enquire about their flight status.

i blame stupid malaysian passengers, clearly stated weight limit for hand carry, but all try to cheat and bring 3x allowed, so plane overloaded but pilots do not know hence cannot compensate for it.

lol at plane overloaded and skidded because pilot dont know the exact weight
*
ground crew have details of total luggage and the plane itself can calculate the weight of its own by tons. but no one knows whether its overloaded or not. to say pilot ignoring the fact its overloaded or not we shall wonder and ask ORLY!?

I suspect the plane is doing a dangerous cross-wing landing, with wind sheer gusting at high speed this is very dangerous to land the plane.

Furthermore the flight is a delayed flight, maybe the pilot "nge-nge" wanted to touch down. doh.gif

Just my humble opinion....

ye la, this is malaysia, not indonesia. we are stricter with luggage weight.
they will weight alomost everything. of course they already calculate everything. i dont think this should be the point.
max fro hand carriage is 7kg, no?
since to have check in luggage u need to pay for it, i dont think many people will choose for that option.

Wonder about the cost of repair/rehaul to follow. blink.gif

The front landing gear must have broke off during the impact.

Pilot must have deployed the trust reversals at the wrong timing... Poor traction of the slippery runway surface could also have been the contributing factor...

Or did the plane touched down too hard, bounced off the runway slightly into mid-air again, got influenced by the strong cross winds as such, and then lost control...?
