I bought my microsoft points from gamers hideout.. I have no problem downloading arcade games and indie games but when it comes to full xbox 360 games, example: Oblivion, fallout 3, red dead redemption, etc.. I can't download any of them.. so far only these three xbox 360 games that I found can be downloaded using the MS points that I bought.

I bought a ms point (US) from the link seller also, try to DL Gears of War 2 extra map, can not also, I think it's region lock, untill now I still don't know what to do with the US point I bought....

certain games/DLC are region locked... they'll detect your IP and if your IP is not from US, then they'll stop u from buying it

one way to buy those XBL region locked games/DLC from US is via VPN

using a US VPN, XBL will register you're using a US IP, hence allow u to purchase those games/DLCs

nope.. but if the game is region locked then you woudn't be able to download it in the first place.. it would give an error message. hope this helps

you guys could still try, but just a little warning to u guys. currently there is a few region lock games doesnt work even on VPN. 2 that i know of, DR2 Case West & COD Black Ops Zombie Map DLC, it will kick you out of Live! when it reaches 99% even on VPN, so if you used the points & coudnt get the full file download then its yr problem now .... so be prepare....

i just give it a try. seems like the speed using vpn from myhome is super slow (150kbps) only. nevermind, if it wont go thru until finish, then points burnt la. what to do.

I'm not sure about buying it by default but as PartyPooper said, some of the games on demand can be downloaded and some dont. so you can try on each game you want whether it can be downloaded or not.

for some game like ssf4, as for me, i'm using pal console and using uk gamertag. initial attempt didn't allow me to buy it using ms points, because of the ip detection, i believe. then when i use uk vpn connection for my xbox thru my laptop, it did allow me to buy using ms points and straightaway download it. i believe once u can buy, u can download it. just dont lose your vpn connection. my ssf4 download took about one whole day, 24 hrs. after that you can play straight from your hdd.

I just google and read some news, its say japan and US have different caalogue of games, hence if the game are only available on japan market US cant download and same with US. SO meaning is your PAL dont work, our NTSC should work..

yes, maybe u r right. japan, us, europe all have their own catalogue of Games on demand and different menu on your xbl dashboard. japan may not have sky players like uk, inside xbox news also different.

so imo, u need to have the right gamertag, setting the right locale and pretend as if u were in that country, then u can download or buy it. i dont think if i can't buy it using my pal console with msian ip, others can download it using ntsc console. or if you do, you might have not in the uk xbl dashboard.
maybe i can try using one of ntsc console with my uk gamertag and try to buy one game? or maybe u can use pal console with your us/asian gamertag to buy a game? well, we still not far from the conclusion though, i believe.

guys, it's already proven they detect by IP to check your region lah

no matter what region console you're using, what gamertag you're registered with, as long as they detected the IP you're using are not from their region, straight away they'll block you.

Also it's also commonly known that diff region has diff content & pricing

generally US god is region lock. only by vpn u can dl, i m not certain about now, since ppl comment that certain games(COD BO) refuse non supported IP operators. For me, i m using a paid VPN, no problems for me now.

arcade games are region free. the prices are the same too.

Anyone has any experienced buying any latest/current Games On Demand titles (not Arcade/Indie title) from Xbox Marketplace..?

There's one game that I would like to buy with MS Points, which is Smackdown VS RAW 2009...
It costs 1890 MS Point if I buy with SG account..
but when using US account, the game costs 2200 MS Points...Seems like SG account has cheaper currency I assume..

At first, I thought the game is free region since it doesn't mention which region is able to purchase the content, so I decided to top up my MS Points for SG account and want to purchase it..

You can use your US account to buy US only games if they're NOT region-locked. IIRC, most of region-locked stuff are the DLCs. If you surf the Xbox Live website using US IP address, you can add the region-locked DLC to your Xbox download queue, and it may start downloading on the Xbox, but, at 99% the download will stop as Xbox will try to authenticate your download and won't be able to because your IP is not US, this stopping it. So you will still need to connect your Xbox to an US IP address to download the remaining 1%.

That's what happens when I tried to download Gears of War 2 DLC and hope this clears thing up.

Technically, when want to confirm to buy a game, that Xbox server (maybe?) will first detect the location area where you want to download..if the area/country is not listed, then considered region-locked and you cannot download (it detects our ISP though, like Telekom Malaysia Berhad)...Only when you starts downloading something, you will have no problem downloading using your local internet since there's no authorize checking; just grabbing the files from server......

When the file is finished downloaded, that's where the game files need a final authorization from that server to get the licenses signed to your console..So, before finishing the download, we still need to use VPN for server to authorize the file and check the location area again..

Even then, I still consider this region lock games thingy is quite annoying and useless (and stupid )since we cannot buy some games that we like...

Well, I ended up used my MS Points to buy Batman Arkham City though, which is surprisingly can be bought...Now I have some points left, maybe need to buy some Arcade or Xbox Classics...

I need to refute that. Just few days ago, I purchased a digital copy of Halo Reach from eBay US seller. I tried to redeem the code locally on both Xbox Live website and console, but both method spit out This offer is not valid in your region or has expired error message. Tried turning on US VPN, but it failed too. So depend on the games, it might be region locked based on your account.

Luckily, the seller agreed to refund 75% of my purchase price (I bought two codes), and let me keep one of the code, just in case I like to give it to someone.
