Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015)

I was quite entertained by The Maze Runner.

And I had a chance to watch the sequel to that today, and it is... surprisingly, blah...

It is strange, alot happened, and you as an audience, just don't become... invested.

What is even more puzzling, is you have to wait two year to see the conclusion.

Disappointing....

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

Watched this as IMAX 3D TGV 1Utama.

It is GOOD!

You know what, I thought I kept away from all the hype/news/ads/trailer for this movie, and STILL I kinda sorta know what is gonna happened in the movie...

Why?

I can only think of two reasons

1) In terms of storyline, they stuck to "tried and true" Star Wars lore (so for Star Wars fans out there, you can celebrate)

2) They marketing is THAT good. Maybe ads for this movie is delivered through our drinking water (Osmosis?? laugh.gif)

Joking aside, some parts of this movie is just brilliant and others...

Wait, I am getting ahead of myself!!

The Good

The main casts from episode 4,5, and 6 all returned!

The lack of Luke Skywalker in the trailer is explained.

BB 8 is going to over take R2D2 in terms of robot cuteness.

There is no annoying "Jar Jar Bings-like character"

No over the top LENS FLARE!

The Bad

Kylo Ren character, is really badly developed.

Some parts of the script is just too... clunky! Surprising, since Lawrence Kasdan is involved (Empire Strikes Back)

The Ugly

Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux is totally unrecognizable.

They NEEDED Max von Sydow for THAT!!

The character Rey/Ren names are too similar, and can be very confusing!!

Please understand this is just my opinion.

No matter what I say here this movie is going to MAKES AN OBSCENE AMOUNT OF MONEY!

Another thing I enjoy was, it was VERY clear, who the REALLY fanboys are in the cinema (you hear them gasp, you hear them laugh, and you hear them cry...)

star wars

basically the biggest unimaginative cash grab of the year, the movie is an exact copy of a new hope down to the last detail , ren is a darth vader wannabe and even has a funny voice to boot

theres no redeeming characters in it, the premise is terrible (after defeating the empire, the rebels just took a break?" and the fight scenes were comical.

even when it comes to lore, its a far cry for star wars, the original jedis were very powerful, even for padawan, likewise you dont just suddenly pickup the force for the keks and lulz. by the time the movie ended our main character might be able to shoot fireballs because its that absurd.

above average, disappointing overhyped cash grab

6/10

I was underwhelmed by the storyline and also commented that I was very surprise that Lawrence Kasdan was involved with the writing!!

Maybe after a 4 billion dollars investment, Disney did not want too radical a change and tied J.J. Abram's hands...

Please understand I am speculating here...

Ip Man 3 (2015)

Is Donnie Yen, a one character wonder?

Is the series Ip Man running out of story to tell?

Frankly, the story is a little thin...

Having said that, with the limited story line, the director, Wilson Yip still manages to deliver a pretty good movie!

The Good

1) This movie shows more facets of Wing Chun (Butterfly Sabre & pole)
2) The fight scenes are... well choreograph.
3) Some characters actually surprised me!!
Bruce Lee?
4) The highlight of the movie is actually

The Bad

1) Characters that seems to be important at the beginning, suddenly disappears at the end!!?!

The Ugly

1) The thin storyline.
2) The stereotype "Chinese", "English" and "American" bad guys.
3)

All in all, I found it enjoyable.

Not sure if there is going to be a 4... Donnie Yen seems to only "shine" playing this character.

The 5th Wave (2016)

Independence Day + 2012 + Twilight/Warm Heart + Hunger Games/Maze Runner/Divergent and a low budget and you kinda sorta get this movie!

Okay, before I get any further, let me just say Chloƫ Grace Moretz (Kickass) is all grown up!!

This movie is getting thrashed left, right and center.

I have to say, Chloƫ Grace Moretz gave a pretty good performance

As for the story, I feel that is tried too hard to be everything to the audience and don't quite deliver on all the front, which is where most people take offence.

Another thing. Why the hey is Nick Robinson all over the place now?

He was in Melissa and Joey (TV Series), then, Jurassic World and now this? Why all the choice project. I don't find him to be that good an actor....

Not trying to give too much away, this movie is basically about aliens invasion.

The aliens have superior tech, but human have... Well go see.

Oh how the times have change

On the whole I think this movie is an average movie.

I literally had two hours to kill so I went, and It was an okay two hours as opposed to standing around not having anything to do...

Deadpool (2016)

Great movie.

Lots of haha. Very rude. Very violent.

Ryan Reynolds was born to do this character.

I do have one complain, why did they detached from the X-Men universe (meaning why is Colossus a different actor?)

Go watch this.

You know you want to.

Ola Bola (2016)

With everything that is going on, there really isn't anything that makes one shout on top of his/her lung, I am Malaysia.

I am proud to share that this movie actually makes me want to do that.

It shows you what a beautiful group of people we are, in a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL country (geographically speaking)

Watch this, you will not regret it.

Gods of Egypt (2016)

Apart from Mov_freak, I am also an Anything_To_Do_With_Ancient_Egypt_Freak...

So you can imagine my excitement when I first saw this trailer.

I remember the last time an ancient Egypt subject based movie I was so looking forward to was the Stargate movie...

So, how did this movie fare?

Did it live up to my expectation?

Unfortunately, not quite...

Don't get me wrong, ancient Egypt never looked so good.

This movie has got really high production value.

The relationship/interaction between the gods... are passable to me (based on my knowledge of ancient Egypt mythology)

So, where do the issues lay?

I have to go with... casting...

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Gerard Butler may not have been the best choice for Horus & Seti's respectively...

Also, trying to appeal to the young'un by having the Brenton Thwaites & Courtney Eaton characters Bek & Zaya, did not really gel (aftermath of Twillight. Yes I said it, I'm BLAMING Twilight)

Also the over reliance on CGI, some scenes I was actually reminded of The Monkey King (2014) *shudder* ... Yes... THAT

You have no idea how much I want to absolutely love this movie, and with high expectation, disappointment may result, and in this case, it did.

This is JUST a passable movie

Disney has the golden touch (of story telling) again.

This is a very good movie.

London Has Fallen (2016)

Well, with a title like THAT, is there any doubt what this movie is about?

If you want ACTION, this movie is for you.

If you like ACTON heroes, this movie is for you.

If you think America can do NO WRONG (even at the expense of everybody else in the world), this movie is DEFINITELY for you.

There is nothing here that is beyond beyond your expectation.

So, if the above is your cup of tea, this movie is the BOMB (do you young'un still use that??!). laugh.gif

Point Break (2015)

A remake of Point Break (1991) (Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze).

I have watched the original and kinda liked it.

The Good

The movie is beautifully filmed. Just don't know if the Xtreme Sports were CGI'ed of for really

The Bad

Really, this movie needs a remake?? If you have watched the original, story wise, this have nothing more to add!!

The Ugly

The casting....

So... I don't think that they needed to remake this...

Kung Fu Panda 3

Let me make this short.

If Dreamworks can keep the quality of story telling high of this animation, they should just keep adding to it.

I absolutely love this.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

I did not do much read up on this movie prior to this. So I went in with high expectation but not much info about the movie.

Before I can review this, I have to mention Man of Steel (2013).

I like Man of Steel (2013). Well, more specifically, 2/3 of the movie.

When the third act happened, I said to myself, this is not a Superman movie!! The wanton violence and lives lost in Metropolis...

I did not understand why Zack Synder did the 3rd act the way he did and in the beginning of this movie, that question is answer and the end of Man Of Steel started to make sense! Which bring me to

The Good

1) I have already mention, the ending of Man Of Steel makes sense now.

2) Batman's Intro is actually good.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

3) So is Diana Prince's intro (Wonder Woman).

4) I did not expect to see so many heroes in this movie. And when they were shown, it was a really treat.

The Bad

1) This movie is 2 and a half hours long. The story got very convoluted...

2) The villain's motive is not well expressed. I felt that Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor... tries to hard.

3) The dark (Batman) and light (Superman) is not defined very well, cinematographic-ally speaking...

The Ugly

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

2) Very lopsided pacing... Suddenly, everything happens at the end...

3) The film's editing...

In conclusion, this movie is a mess...

I understand that Zack Synder with release an R-Rated blu ray of this... Maybe the pacing/editing would be better in that!! I for one is actually looking forward to THAT!

It would not matter what I say about this movie, there is a high chance you would watch it anyway.
