QUOTE(QuickFire @ Jun 14 2011, 10:39 AM) I think it may be the best chinese movie I have seen, ever. Which probably speaks more about the amount of chinese movies I've seen than the actual quality of the movie really. But it's a superb movie. Wow, and you have exams this week!!! Do you ... sleep?? Anyway watched a few movies over the last two weeks. Paul - The jokes are a lot more low-brow than the usual Pegg/Frost comedies, but it's still highly entertaining and funny, with loads of nods to old sci-fi movies. The alien itself was annoying though, especially in the beginning. Pairing it with the voice of Seth Rogen just makes it worse. Pi - Finally got around to watching Aronofsky's debut feature. You can definitely see where his latter claustrophobic, downwards-spiral-to-hell movies derived their inspirations from. They all share the same main theme, but are remarkably different enough to stand alone alongside each other. Love Libatique's high contrast B&W photography here. Good to see how a no-budget film can have smart ideas and look so stylish at the same time. The Adjustment Bureau - Oh I liked it. OK, the movie does find it a hard time balancing romance and sci-fi. It isn't meshed together as well as say, Eternal Sunshine which has romance and sci-fi ideas going on simultaneously in each frame, coexisting perfectly. Here, the romance and sci-fi bits exist mostly in different frames. You have the romance when Matt Damon is with Blunt. And you have sci-fi when Matt Damon is with the adjustment guys. The tone swings. And when both elements merge in the final act, it feels rushed and not very captivating. But at least the it tried to do something differently. It had ideas, and executed them decently enough. I also loved the chemistry between Damon and Blunt, they actually reminded me of Joel and Clementine from Eternal Sunshine... and that's definitely a good thing. Zodiac - Must have watched this 4 or 5 times now. Fincher's masterpiece. Mean Streets - Watched for the first time. It was kinda loose storywise but Harvey Keitel's and De Niro's characters and the friendship between them made the movie. De Niro here actually reminds me of a friend Have just got, Paul, The Adjustment Bureau and will be watching soon.... |

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Jun 14 2011, 11:21 AM) I watched those over the last two weeks... Plus let the bullets fly and xmen and pirates 4 in the cinema. Surely that's not too much! Still much less than the two movies you watch each day. I wouldn't say exactly 2 movies each dayMy exam is actually on next Monday. And I'm on study leave this whole week. Could be a combination of documentary (Nat Geo, Discovery, History Channel stuff), tv series (White Collar, Teen Wolf, Supernatural and The Voice stuff) and a movie or, movie, tv series then documentary etc. Sometime JUST TV series (if too many episodes accumulate!! I'm sick, I know!! All the best with you study This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Jun 14 2011, 01:20 PM |

Green Lantern (2011)
In a nutshell... a little disappointing. The main culprit, storyline and character development. Why the heck hire powerhouses like Peter Sarsgaard, Angela Bassett and Tim Robbins and DO absolutely NOTHING with them.... What they got right are 1) The costume (I know I know, many do NOT like and I have to add, it kinda work) 2) Green Lantern flight. They have made Superman and countless oter superheroes fly before. What is different. Green Lantern has a "Style" of flight (almost ballet, the best way I can describe) and they managed that 3) Making Green Lantern during flight, look really. In the last Superman movie, almost everytime Superman flew, he look CGI.... 4) Planet Oa 5) The Green Lantern Corp 6) Sinestro What they got wrong 1) There is ABSOLUTELY NOT chemistry between Blake Lively and Ryan Reynold. Who would have THUNK!!!! They are both attractive people... Blake Lively reminds me of a much younger Lara Flynn Boyle, with a dash more weight!! 2) After a great 1st act, the 2nd and 3rd act went steadily downhill... There is also an anomaly in the movie.... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « If you decide to only one superhero movie this year, I actually recommend X-Men First Class rather then this... Shame, I LOVE DC Heroes... I really do... My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Dec 12 2017, 09:16 PM |

Legend (1985)
In 1985, Ridley Scott made this ditzy movie. It was VERY Expensive (for it's time) and before Ridley could finish it, the sound stage where most of the movie was film, burnt down!!?! Before Willow, BEFORE Lord Of The Rings, this movie defined quality in term of Fantasy Movie. I'm watching the HD Remastered Director cut and have to tell you IT NEVER LOOKED SO Gorgeous!!!! Please do not compare the Picture and Sound quality with new movies, having own this when it is first launch on DVD compared to now, the difference is night and day! If you want a trip down nostalgia street, and you love fantasy movie with doe-y eyed actress (Mia Sara) and a VERY young Tom Cruise (I've forgotten how blue his eyes are until I rewatched this), give this a go. I'm 55 minutes in to the movie and have to say it is good. There has been some comments that it is NOT as good as Taken, and I think that is a little unfair. It is entirely a different storyline! The story is a little slow in setting up and it has been enjoyable so far... Huh? After the 55 minutes marker, the story took a whole new different direction!!! It is good. I like this movie a lot Who would have thunk that I would have sympathy for a Ex Stasi Agent!!!!! I recommend this movie My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Dec 12 2017, 09:16 PM |

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Jun 19 2011, 10:07 PM) Sucker Punch. And you drag me into this. Oh my god what a piece of crap. OK the action is alright, but holds no weight whatsoever and I wasn't invested in them one bit. Visually it's pretty to look at in the same way processed canned foods are nice to eat. Rubbish. Mov_freak, have you seen it? Here is where we vary... again. I LUV Sucker Punch!! |

I hope the movie isn't a reflection of hoe bad I'm gonna screw up tomorrow. Because Snyder did just that. All the best in your exam. This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Jun 20 2011, 12:00 AM |

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
It is interesting that with each subsequent movie, the kids get better at their characters The first two movies were kiddie, no doubt, and from the third onwards, they got darker and darker I do NOT agree with some of the cuts they did from book to movie, (in this movie, the World Cup deletion was mind boggling) And in high def, the movie never looked better The Dragon Sequence and the Ballroom scenes leap off the screen Also any scenes with Myrtle are always amusing!! I believe this movie is also the first time Robert Pattinson is introduce to the world (before the Twilight craze...) From the third movie on, Hogwath got more and more dangerous Enjoy, really enjoyable My Two Sen Added on June 26, 2011, 1:38 pmHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) The series of movies does go through they directors. Apparently, Alfonso Cuarón & Mike Newell were offered to do more then one, and they turned down the offers... What I like about David Yates take it that he peppers his Harry Potter with very creative inter cut scenes, where The Daily Prophet is displayed with information he then does not need to get his character to say out. The addition to the series this movie brought out was Wand Duel and also, Voldemort and Dumbeldore fight (which is FANTASTIC, practically element!!) Again, fantastic in Hi Def, saw lots of stuff I missed in Standard Definition As for your comment Quickfire, the seventh book isn't my favorite Yes, they walked around alot!! Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
One word, ABYSMAL.... I didn't go in with high expectation and really went because my friends wanted to, and even then a major MAJOR disappointment. Bad storyline Worst EDITING Terrible acting (I'm looking at you Shia LaBeouf). I lost count of times I wanted ti slap him across the face. He is SO irritating in this one!!! And they brought in powerhouse actor like John Malkovich for what?????????? To DO NOTHING. It took me every ouch of focus I have, to stop myself from fallen asleep (the storyline in THAT insipid...) I should have saved up my money to go watch Harry Potter 7.2 or to watch Super 8 again!!! *Sigh* Be warned kiddies. BE WARNED. My Two Sen |

The Fox and the Hound (1981)
I remember watching this when I was a wee lad... But for the life of me, i cannot remember the ending (did not finish the movie??) Additional, I don't remember like the movie much Disney Animation went into a slump after the passing of Walt Disney If memory serves, One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) and The Jungle Book (1967) were one of the last few movies he had a personal involvement... After his passing, the animation created by the company went into slow decline... They are NOT bad (Rescuers comes to mind), but they just aren't fantastic (worst example would be Sword in the Stone and The Black Cauldron). Now watching this movie after so many years, I have to say, I appreciate it a lot more! Very simple story and quite well told Some people might say that it is overly sentimental and I'm cold blooded, so I appreciate the warmth!! Have a safe weekend everyone. Conan the Destroyer (1984)
Ah the good old 80s a mini fantasy movie golden age. Conan the Barbarian, The Sword and Sorcery, Lady Hawk, Legends, Princess bride and many more. One of the fantasy movie in the list, is Conan the Destroyer (1984) After Conan the Barbarian, I was actually disappointed by this!! Having a chance to watch this now, it isn't as bad as I remember... Sets were impressive. Characters were amusing. After the more gripping Conan the Barbarian, I originally felt that Conan the Destroyer (1984) a little kiddie... and it was the intention of the producer for it to be so... I can see why I dislike the movie initially, Princess Jehnna is a VERY irritating character, and I stand by my word. I suppose, having "aged" I can now see pass the irritatingness!! A nice like movie for a lazy Sunday afternoon, heck maybe even a lazy Saturday afternoon for that matter!! My Two Sen This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Dec 12 2017, 09:19 PM |

Good news, IT IS!!! Almost ALL the good bits in the second half of the book is in this one. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Be warned that are some major bits that I had expected to be in this movie didn't make it!! » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « So did I like the movie Yes, yes I DID Way WAY more then Transformer 3!!! Captain America (2011)
And the first prize goes to... What a year. 4 comic superheroes movies in 1 year. There was X-Men First Class (Marvel) Then Thor (Marvel) After that one Green Lantern (DC) And now Captain America (Marvel) It is good. It is VERY good. It is my believe, this would be closest Marvel would get, in successfully fleshing out one of their character compared to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. (Spiderman doesn't count. That character is licensed out to Sony) Chris Evan sold the idea of Captain America You'll never even think "Hey, Johnny Storm!" while watching this movie. World War II was depicted believable. I love the designs for Schmidt's war machines I REALLY love Hayley Atwell, she sold femininity, period!!! Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) is BRILLIANT!!! Seriously. Hugo Weaving can just about BE anything he wants to be (Elf, Super Hero, NASTY COMPUTER PROGRAM!!!). Everything in this movie clicked Even the bit players Yes, please stay to the end (After End Credits). You WON'T be sorry Go watch it. Go WATCH it. Did I mention, that you should WATCH THIS!!!! For the record Captain America: The First Avenger No. 1 X-Men: First Class No. 2 Thor No. 3 Green Lantern No. 4 Poor job DC, REALLY POOR JOB!!!! My Two Sen |
