the competitiveness of the competition needs to be maintain, with the respect to the malaysia achievement, if they cant even put a good fight during the qualifying rounds, what is there for them to show in the asia cup given free spot was gave?, we dont want to go there only to get beaten and return home nothing

this is a good test to see how Qatar can live up to the expectation of being host to a major football tournament.
I would say Australia, Korea, Japan, or even Bahrain could be potential champion |

This competition has been reduced to only as dress a rehearsal for World Cup 2022..
many of long serving Asian Stars will be missing after this.. but i also like to see how new stars like Kagawa and Honda do.... i have no doubt that Japan will win this one.. but i am more interested to lookout for the darkhorses and spoilers.... India showed they have something during the Asian Games... DPR Korea also hope to give an in-your-face performance to the capitalist world.. this competition is load of bullocks man.certain teams get free qualification, and this thing doesnt freaking represent the word ASIA.apa ingat asia=india japan, the china's and arab saja ka??how about the smaller ones??.
no wonder fifa never gave in demands to have more slots for asia in wc. if its truly asia cup then should have a proper qualification systems some thing like euro or the wc. This post has been edited by mhyug: Dec 31 2010, 04:49 PM |

QUOTE(mhyug @ Jan 1 2011, 08:57 AM) fyi what so great about being segregated as "developed associations" , "developing associations.", "emerging associations" The AFC Challenge Cup is exactly what you said bro: to give opportunity for smaller teams to participate in the big tournament. FYI the AFC challenge cup is mainly participated by the Emerging Countries and a few of the Developing Countries. So each Asia Cup will have at least 2 of these countries participate, since Asia Cup is every 4 years and the AFC Challenge Cup is every 2 years. Those that didn't win the challenge cup, can still qualify via the asian cup qualifiers, like what u said about Estonia (AFC Asian Cup is not the only way for small countries to qualify, it is an easier alternatives). Chances are, it's easier to qualify if you play against countries of the same standard than to fight Asian giants. Of course if you think you can qualify via qualifiers like the Estonia example, then feel free to try.ever heard of equal opportunity??do your homework first then lets compare. btw ever heard of a small nation called estonia??their 3rd in grp f and could be fighting their way with EUROPE'S best for a spot to be in the finals for the Henri Delaunay Trophy.now thats a fair way of qualifying for a tourney. It's a bit similar to the concept of qualifying for Europa Cup. For example, if you wanna play in Europe u gotta finish top 7 in the English league right? Another ALTERNATIVE is to win the league cup or FA Cup. Not really the same thing la, but my point here is these tournaments are "alternatives". QUOTE(do_re_mi @ Jan 1 2011, 02:04 PM) discussing about the qualification.. exactly my pt.so be it if there is 1 2 3 or 100 major afc tourneys they should have proper qualy format.and up to date to man kind there is only one type wch is grp stage qualy.1. qualify via challenge cup? - dont agree, shud b only 1 route, via asian cup qualifiers.. so then who r there r there on merit.. on this 2011 occasion, north korea - powerful nation - qualified via challenge cup?! wtf.. 2. bye? host n defending champion enuff oredi.. 2nd & 3rd oso got bye ehh? haiyo... its either that or we segregate asia in parts and move on from there.whats so fun about when the very same nations is going to be there come a few years even tho this tourney is so called for "new teams la", emerging la etc etc.. |

i agree with finals spot given through AFC Challenge Cup.
That one or two spot will do much more to the development of football in India or Krgystan than to already developed country like Saudi arabia or China.. they will become a stimulus, a reason for them to get better ..... the same can also be said to Champions qualifying route in UEFA Champions League... its about distributing the potential and benefit on wider scope.. whatever painful-minor-improvement these minnows country achive will all count for nothing if the drawn with Japan and Korea in the first round of asia Cup qualifying... let them fight among their peers and give a very meaningful reward to those who succeed... the sense of achivement will spur further developement.. if not, only the good will get better, while the bad will countinue on their spiral downward... dont get me wrong, i agree with d idea.. but d way of d implementation is another matter.. giv d chance 2 d so called emerging nations.. im fine wit it but at d same time, its a bit unfair 2 d so called developing nations (including ours).. looks like philipines hav better chance 2 b in asian cup rather than malaysia.. i realize afc always like 2 do grouping.. dont know y imho, ranking way much better than grouping.. |

QUOTE(do_re_mi @ Jan 2 2011, 12:08 AM) aressandro10, distributing - thats d important word compare to the others, i think nations like ours has the ability to stand on our own feet. Our problem is, instead of standing, we just only like to sit on our couch and watch EPL on tv all this while dont get me wrong, i agree with d idea.. but d way of d implementation is another matter.. giv d chance 2 d so called emerging nations.. im fine wit it but at d same time, its a bit unfair 2 d so called developing nations (including ours).. looks like philipines hav better chance 2 b in asian cup rather than malaysia.. i realize afc always like 2 do grouping.. dont know y imho, ranking way much better than grouping.. while for countries like Philipine or India, they really need alot to spur any sort of interest even among their countryman. A spot the in Asia Cup can just do that. AFC role, for me is more challenging than UEFA's role. It would be fanstactic if the whole of Asia can compete on merit to qualify. but Asia is soo vast and the gap between the good and the not are too wide. Its AFC's responsibility to inject some 'will' in those countries that otherwise, would just give up. i am very impressed with AFC Challenge Cup winner India during the Asia Games. They have benefited a lot from that tournament. world ranking only give indication of national team performance while the AFC Classification covers the state of football in the country as a whole. If you read about it, its pretty comprehensive. This post has been edited by aressandro10: Jan 2 2011, 08:23 AM |

so far, for the normal one is about Qatar Riyal 40, more or less RM40. when i buy my South Korea v Australia match, theres still plenty of seats. now i check, nearly all the seats around me are booked. left the seats behind the goals, corners etc. Semi finals tickets for good seats are also more or less booked, but i dont wanna buy those tickets first coz dunno who will be playing. Final i din check, coz i am flying back on that day
cheaper tickets for the not so nice seats are about QR25 i think, and children price is QR5 only! VIP ticket is QR100, so overall the tickets are relatively cheap i would say. |

Being the host Qatar is expected to perform but from the looks of it, they might not even make it out of the group stage, with Kuwait and China both strong teams as well..

A horrible performance by Qatar I would say. Not only that, the fact that the whole world is looking at their match, plus their promise of showing the world they are worthy to host the performance..they are certainly inviting criticism here. Plus the Emir of Qatar is present to watch, he won't be happy

I m not really remember, if i m not wrong, the Asia Cup 2004 and the Asia World Cup 2006 qualify round, North Korea still dun have any proper professional football player, they only bring doctor, teacher, technician n other non professional football player to play qualify. |

Thats why AFF Suzuki Cup matches only register as Rank A friendlies in FIFA ranking.. |

QUOTE(toshio14 @ Jan 10 2011, 05:15 PM) i am in the opinion that AFF Cup is building up its prestige as the 'OURS' thing of South East Asian people. There are a special bragging rivalry tradition between Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand-Singapore and Vietnam-Thailand-Laos-Myanmmar about winning that Cup.. i also liked how Laos and Philipines have the sipirit to close the gap which is not that far currently...having a team of Mat Salleh coming in and robbing clean all the glory will taint that balance and make this region fall back into that loop of inferiority complex against the white masters.. hhmm...joining AFC is one thing, joining AFF is another. Like Alessandro said, it does seems the local bragging rights will be unbalanced. We already have debates on whether naturalization is appropriate or not, what more to say a whole team of outsiders to play...But what to do, Australia is closest to SEA if the AFC were to be divided into regions (SEA, East Asia, Gulf countries etc).
And i think your explanation on why Suzuki Cup is considered as Friendlies under FIFA is right, i dont think any other continent have regional tournaments like Asia. Back to Asian Cup, Australia v India and South Korea v Bahrain tonight. Pretty clear cut on who SHOULD win, but as last night's matches show, upsets are very possible. On a personal note, i can only watch the first half of Australia match and gotta miss Korea's coz there's a company dinner that i had to attend, leaving at 5.30pm |

Premier League combo of Emerton - Cahill gets Australian their first goal in just 11 minutes. Cahill had another great looping header into the net but was deemed offside by the linesman.
Kewell got another goal, way way too much space for him left by the Indian defense. This post has been edited by pyroboy1911: Jan 10 2011, 09:43 PM |

There are a special bragging rivalry tradition between Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand-Singapore and Vietnam-Thailand-Laos-Myanmmar about winning that Cup.. i also liked how Laos and Philipines have the sipirit to close the gap which is not that far currently... while the bragging right is a nice thing to have, i care more about our football development. and i am in the opinion of to be better, you must be playing with the better players (the main reason i did not agree with the decision to stop the import players in our league). and right now, IMO we can only benefit from the opportunity to play against such quality team.having a team of Mat Salleh coming in and robbing clean all the glory will taint that balance and make this region fall back into that loop of inferiority complex against the white masters.. anyway, this is OT already |

If Messi is the world's best player now, Cahill is arguably the current world's best heading master. When he is playing up front, u just gotta anticipate a header goal from him and he delivers it last night.
Iran v Iraq is a neighboury afair, while North Korea and UAE would be interesting as we will see local pride in the game (Mr. Subkhiddin Interestingly, Group D has 3 of the countries USA label as the "axis of evil". IF USA were to play in group D instead of UAE, now that would be one hell of a group |

South Korea's ball movement and passing was superb last night. They have a nice mixture of youth and experience too.
Ki Sung-Yueng and Cha Du-ri are the players to watch for |

nearly all North Korean supporters are wearing white shirts with ties. dunno if this is the result of the communism and brainwashing they are exposed to, ie. wear smart and proud to represent your contry

Qatar seems comfy with 2 goals.. They played wasting time and wasting moves/chances in 2nd half even China play with 10 men for last 20 minutes without any card. With 0 GD doesn't look good if Uzbek rest some of their players for the last group match. Unless Kuwait don't mind to drop more points in FIFA ranking.. Anyway.. I must admit both Goals by Y. Ahmed were very good indeed..

Jordan beat a poor Saudi Arabia team to go 4 points, and in the likely event of Japan beating Syria, Saudi Arabia will be officially the first team to be eliminated in the Asian Cup.

Intense game! Did the ref give the correct decision on the Syria penalty?
Jordan should be able to control Syria with their current form and confidence, while I don't see Saudi beating Japan. But anything can happen. Personally I hope Japan will finish second to face the Winner of Group A coz I've got myself tickets to the QF1, which is winner A v runners up B |

super super game..best game so far..retarded penalty decision by the ref when the syrian player was clearly offside..but he made up for it by giving japan an equally soft penalty..

I would say Japan is one class above everyone in their group ... it is just that they don't move out of third gear most of the time. Just look at how they turn it up after being down to 10 men .. but right after the 2nd goal .. it is back to their safety first approach ..

IMO, both penalties were wrong decisions. first one, need no explanation, as the Syrian player was miles offside. second one, well you have the feeling that it was atonement for the first penalty decision.
Zaccheroni needs to drop Maeda for Okazaki, diff team altogether when the latter is playing. Kagawa needs to find his form as well, while Honda looks knackered towards the end of both games, maybe his fitness is not up to mark. Yoshida is proving to be an adequate replacement for the missing Nakazawa and Tulio, while Uchida def needs to improve on his wayward passing. |

Australia v Korea Republic's game is a tale of 2 stories; Australia with strong and hard play, Korea try to outrun and outmaneuver the opponent. Both teams come out equal, South Korea dominated first half while Australia looked more likely to score and win the second half. Here's some pics:
![]() ![]() ![]() There's also a mexican wave going for a few rounds: Bahrain v India on the other hand served a goal fest, mainly from Ismaeel Abdullatif. India is officially the 2nd team to be kicked out of the tournament. Even though they qualified through the AFC Challenge Cup, we would have expected them to put up a stronger challenge, at least similar to North Korea. For the 3nd round of Group C, Korea should have no problem beating India and will try to get as much goal as possible to overhaul Australia's goal difference. Assuming Australia beat Bahrain, then Korea would have to score at least 5 (or more depending on the goal difference in the other match) to finish first. Australia on the other hand only need a draw to qualify. Complacency will be their biggest threat in that match. PS: the tie breaker for the AFC Asian Cup is as follows: 1. number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question 2. goal difference in the matches among the teams in question 3. number of goals scored in the matches among the teams in question (if more than two teams finish equal on points) 4. goal difference in all the group matches 5. number of goals scored in all the group matches 6. fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament) 7. drawing of lots Since Aus - Korea match is tied, so rule 1, 2 and 3 will be the same for both of them, so overall goal difference will be the judgement (assuming both teams won their last games) This post has been edited by pyroboy1911: Jan 15 2011, 03:55 AM |

I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's round of matches. I thought South Korea were superior to the Aussies tactically and technically. The lads from down under were workmanlike which kept them in the game. I wonder how much Australian football will decline when the likes of Lucas Neil, Harry Kewell and Brett Emeron retire.
The Bahrain vs. India game was arguably more exciting. I have to say that :- 1) India's keeper is shite and... 2) Aaish is probably the dumbest lad on the planet at the moment. Already cautioned, he chose to dive with his side ahead, leaving them with 10 men. What the hell was he thinking? That's right, he wasn't. |

the UAE v Iraq game is an amazing one, the amount of chances and shots that hit the post is bewildering plenty. and the way the game ends is such a dramatic one too.
I have to say, this Asian Cup tournament so far serve plenty of excitement even though most of the teams arent known to be world class. Even the gulf and arab countries' football includes nice one touch passing. |

Even for a developing country, in my opinion i think as a winner of the AFC Challenge Cup India could have done better. I mean sure they are a developing football country, but winners means the best of them all. If this is the display of the best, then i am not sure how the rest of that category "C" countries can compete in future. Maybe i expect too much from them..but if minnows like Syria can excel, i think India can do better if measured according to their real potential. But on the other hand, i dont think they are the worst team in the competition so far. Saudi Arabia is by far, the worst both in terms of performance and failure to achieve expectation.
Losing all 3 games, only managed a single goal (even India got 3), sacking their coach after first game, their football director after 2nd and sacking the stand in coach after the 3rd game. Typical Arab rulers and their family interfering as an act of "discarding the shame". Really really stupid decision to do after the shock lose to Syria in the first game..that is the real reason they did so badly. Tonight's game will see North Korea v Iraq, and UAE v Iran. I think Iran will at least get a result against UAE putting them in 1st spot to play Korea Republic in the QF, while the NK v Iraq game will see the winner playing Australia (in Iraq's case a draw would be enough). Even if Iraq drew with NK and UAE managed to beat Iran, then Iraq will still qualify since they beat UAE 1-0 and based on the rules of the tournament, the results between tied teams are prioritized over the goal difference of the whole group. QUOTE(AKace @ Jan 19 2011, 02:08 PM) they also made a good impression in the Asian Games as well.. thrashing Singapore 4-1.. and similar naive mistake to lose to Kuwait and Qatar... i like balwant singh, the no 10. .. suprised he is not in the Asia Cup teami think their performance in the Asia Cup has semi-pro written all over it.. to be grouped with 2 world cup teams was indeed unfortunate as whatever improvement they made will be minuscule in comparison.. but they can have some heart in the 3 goals scored vs Bahrain and South Korea... and their perfomance in the second half vs Korea are less naive and more professional about it... there are a lot room for improvement , surely, but i hope now they will have the will to implement it... amazing game, who said Asian games are not worth watching? Japan showed great tenacity to comeback even when down to 10, Qatar also showed great performance since the 1st game defeat and the home fans have every reason to be proud regardless of results. Japan will either meet Iran or SOUTH KOREA, hopefully for the later to set up an epic game!

everyone is hardworking -my men Honda performs superbly during the match.he didn't score the goal but he does show his abundance of creativity -Kagawa has found the goal again.i think he didn't used to play with them Japan and Zac's style of play(Kagawa seems to be more free in his role while in Dortmund he usually stick to Barios) -Okazaki should get credits as well.his chips really pose problems to qatari gk -Maeda seems to be ineffective in the role of lone striker.perhaps okazaki is more suited to the role(though finding another winger would be a pain.Abe isn't being called meaning Endo filled the CM area) -Hasebe and Endo also prove to be effective CMs(though Hasebe seems to play deeper in a holding midfield position) -the back four deserve credits too, though lack of understanding means they are susceptible to set-play.Uchida's absence also really missed.and Tulio/Nakazawa duo as the best centrebacks in asia -Kawashima did alright i guess about Qatar, there is a surprise(though they squad reeks of awang imports). -Sebastian is really a class player -Lawrence and Fabio is good at setplay and that player that always falls down.otherwise he is a very bright player with pace(matching them japs!) and trickery Added on January 22, 2011, 1:21 pmbtw moh baca doa byk2 mintak Honda& Kagawa masuk kelab BPL(x kisah la mana) and not laliga clubs please don't repeat Afellay's mistake This post has been edited by ayanami_tard: Jan 22 2011, 01:21 PM |

Japan showed amazing resilience in their game. I really thought they were dead an buried being a goal and a man down. Kudos to their tenacious comeback.
Looking at the Qatari lineup, I was surprised to see names like Lawrence (Ghana), George (Ghana), Fabio (Brazil), Marcone (Brazil), Goma (Guinea) and Sebastian (Uruguay), all of whom became naturalised Qataris within the past 4-5 years. I know for a fact that Qatar was recruiting consultants and agencies to help prepare for their World Cup big around that time. Perhaps they plan to recruit more foreign talent in the years to come to bolster their squad? Not a fan of Australia. With players like Cahill and Neill in the team, I find it hard to root for them. |

English direct physical football will kill their skills.. it takes a certain type of player to thrive in England and its well known that South American players rarely do.... everyone is hardworking -my men Honda performs superbly during the match.he didn't score the goal but he does show his abundance of creativity -Kagawa has found the goal again.i think he didn't used to play with them Japan and Zac's style of play(Kagawa seems to be more free in his role while in Dortmund he usually stick to Barios) -Okazaki should get credits as well.his chips really pose problems to qatari gk -Maeda seems to be ineffective in the role of lone striker.perhaps okazaki is more suited to the role(though finding another winger would be a pain.Abe isn't being called meaning Endo filled the CM area) -Hasebe and Endo also prove to be effective CMs(though Hasebe seems to play deeper in a holding midfield position) -the back four deserve credits too, though lack of understanding means they are susceptible to set-play.Uchida's absence also really missed.and Tulio/Nakazawa duo as the best centrebacks in asia -Kawashima did alright i guess about Qatar, there is a surprise(though they squad reeks of awang imports). -Sebastian is really a class player -Lawrence and Fabio is good at setplay and that player that always falls down.otherwise he is a very bright player with pace(matching them japs!) and trickery Added on January 22, 2011, 1:21 pmbtw moh baca doa byk2 mintak Honda& Kagawa masuk kelab BPL(x kisah la mana) and not laliga clubs please don't repeat Afellay's mistake to be competitive in world cups, japan and korea must learn to deflect their physical deficiencies by playing like Barca do.... 2015 AFC Asian Cup: Bad news for Saudi Arabia
AFC will most likely use the 2011 AFC Asian Cup performance to seed the teams for both the preliminary competition and the final tournament of the 2015 edition. Outside the top 8 (quarter finalists), the standings are already known. 09. China PR 10. Bahrain 11. Syria 12. Korea DPR 13. United Arab Emirates 14. Kuwait 15. Saudi Arabia 16. India ============ 17. Oman 18. Yemen 19. Thailand 20. Singapore 21. Vietnam 22. Indonesia --------------------- 23. Lebanon 24. Hong Kong 25. Malaysia 26. Maldives Most likely the top 3 in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup will be automatically qualified for the 2015 edition. If Australia finish in the top 3 and the 4th placed team gets a bye from AFC to the final tournament, or Australia don't finish in the top 3, the qualifying setup will be the same as for Qatar 2011. Assuming the same teams and Korea DPR participate in the preliminaries, here's how things will look like: First round Pot 1: Lebanon, Hong Kong Pot 2: Malaysia, Maldives Group stage Pot 1: China PR + worst of the top 8 Pot 2: Bahrain, Syria, Korea DPR, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait Pot 3: Saudi Arabia, India, Oman, Yemen, Thailand Pot 4: Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia + both winners of first round Saudi Arabia in the third pot. If Korea DPR don't enter the preliminary competition (as they did this time), Saudi Arabia will climb to the second pot. Note: -For teams 17-26, their seedings are based on their performance in AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualification -Teams 23-26 are the 4 worst performers in AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualification Source This post has been edited by AKace: Jan 24 2011, 02:39 AM |

Assuming the same teams and Korea DPR participate in the preliminaries, here's how things will look like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_AFC_Asia...p#Qualification One thing i dont understand about the 2015 tournament is the time of the tournament (5th -26th Jan). AFC allows either Jan or July tournament, and Qatar obviously chose January due to weather in July. But it will be summer in Australia during January, not to mention players will need to leave their club mid-season. Of course, winter time it can be as cold as 10 degrees....But i think the player can cope with cold rather than the 30 degree Australian summer. QUOTE -Teams 23-26 are the 4 worst performers in AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualification Hopefully Malaysia wont be grouped in that category this time round |

Being in Pot 2 pretty much put you in range to qualify... if you in Pot 3, you have to fight the place from someone in Pot 1 or 2.. no easy feat... |

QUOTE(murishige @ Jan 25 2011, 01:21 PM) Seriously i m support Korea that time bcoz they are the only Asia team left at QF, i m see both team play very rude, this is not fair that video only show Korea foul on Italy player but dint show that Italy foul on Korea player. I check the Astro guide, it show that ESPN will LIVE for Japan vs Korea match, of cause i will support Japan team. This post has been edited by nakata101: Jan 25 2011, 07:43 PM |

Japan deserved this win. Korea walked out from this tournament with their head helds up high. Entered the second round of WC 2010 and semifinal of Asian Cup 2011 with young squad. i expect them to be champions in the next Asian Cup

If u watch match on telly and it's intense, imagine the atmosphere in the Stadium when the Korean groups and Japanese group sit next to each other, outsing and outdrum each other!
Will post pics in FB and share here soon Meanwhile Aussie looks set to go to the final as well. News is that several Japanese players travel to the current match (only about 30 minutes drive from the Japan match and OZ match) to watch who they will be facing in the finals. Of course i want Australia to win it, no benefit for me if Japan win, while maybe there will be parades and showcases around Australia should they bring the trophy back...then i will have a chance to see the trophy up close |

yes u are right. At the end of the day i guess Japan deserved to go through, simply because they managed to finish their penalty kicks chances.
Whatever it is, its gonna be one hell of a final. The irony is, while i am here able to watch matches live, i will be missing the final game coz im flying back on that day, that time This post has been edited by pyroboy1911: Jan 26 2011, 02:59 AM |

watched Samurai Blue vs South Korea match
-it's not a waste to forfeit watching UnitedvsPool jr(read:"imma sleeping") lol.but i know we're going to win anyway. -i kinda chuckled whenever people(including tv pundits) saying that Japan and Korea shares similar playing styles. Japan used FBs to deliver crosses more frequent than Korea, which using winger(who has Lee and no 13 guy.Park=free runner in between the strikers).Japan also has better central midfield combo(in Honda,Endo and Hasebe) while Korea has taller, stronger striker,in the mould of Andy Carrol. -it's really apparent that Japan has more creative player that could contribute to the attack.Honda with it's killer pass,Endo with accurate long passes and Hasebe who could dictates the distribution of passe.Simply put,Japan has more composure than Korea(when Korea get the ball all attacking player went for counter attacks while for Japan, when they get the ball,they.....well just watch Arsenal game). Not saying that korean(Ki is superb in set-play,while i watched too many of BPL match involving Park and Lee,though Lee didn't play in his usual RW position) are technically inferior, but for me,their individual technical ability just cannot be translate on the team's tactical performance -about penalty shootout....remember Japan vs Paraguay match.i'm sure all them Japs already taken the harsh lesson and perfecting the art of penalty shootout themselves |

if anyone ever realise korea and japan plays a very technical style of football. They move the ball around and play it on the ground. I personally think this suits us Asians since we don't have tall and strong and big size players.
but then Korean scored their second goal after squeezing and out-muscling their opponent... |

The middle eastern teams are quite big in terms of size. If talking abt size, I think Malaysia would lose out

QUOTE(FLampard @ Jan 26 2011, 04:42 PM) if anyone ever realise korea and japan plays a very technical style of football. They move the ball around and play it on the ground. I personally think this suits us Asians since we don't have tall and strong and big size players. u know why? in the extra time South Korea brought in their no.20 striker, 1.96m tall Shin-Wook. Hell he looked so tall and big, even taller than the Japanese Keeper! all they do is give him the long ball for him to bring down and the Japanese have no answers to that. Immediate impact i tell you, he is giant among the players! but then Korean scored their second goal after squeezing and out-muscling their opponent... |

Turkey is already a european nation thanks to a little chunk of land north. As for Uzbeks, it was part of Soviet. And when these countries emerge they have to go somewhere. Like Tajiskistan(sp?), Kazakshtan(sp?). Australia however is under a continent of its name. (Captain obvious right there) Well, at least the footballing body has covered and named it Oceania instead. Didnt matter of questioning it now. Truth is, i have been questioning it since Australia's inclusion. Its just that its get up storm when the team in question wins thats all. |

And when these countries emerge they have to go somewhere. Like Tajiskistan(sp?), Kazakshtan(sp?). ok if not turkey, then what about Israel? Israel are totally Asian country. What would happen if one day Israel won the Euro Cup, will people start saying i rather Spain/Germany/England win because Israel is not an European country? my point here is, just because a country is not populated by that particular race, doesnt mean they cant be part of that footballing federation. Footballing governing bodies are independent entities, regardless of political agenda and boundaries, which is why the country grouping arent 100% based on the political geographic. Australia joining AFC boosts the profile of AFC and for FFA themselves, at least they got a proper medium through which they can properly qualify via challenging teams like the big Asian names, rather than thrashing American Samoa 31-0 and the big stars of Australian football not even bother turning up for international matches. Australia however is under a continent of its name. (Captain obvious right there) Well, at least the footballing body has covered and named it Oceania instead. Didnt matter of questioning it now. Truth is, i have been questioning it since Australia's inclusion. Its just that its get up storm when the team in question wins thats all. bringing up this issue when that particular team is having success sounds like a sour grapes to me. Maybe people will think i am biased since i am studying in OZ, but this is my honest opinion, thats all. If Japan win it, then by all means congrats to them, they deserve it through resiliency to not lose and their spirit is great, besides the fact that they are a good footballing side. But if Australia were to win it...they dont deserve it because they aren't asian? I wonder if Brunei or Singapore football team which competes in the local league wins it, will people not acknowledge them because they are not Malaysian? At first i also find it a bit weird to see mat salleh faces in Asian competition. But that time i was like what...16 years old? since then i begin to see the logic and reasons, and began accepting it. Besides their level is also similar to teams like Korea and Japan so there is no worry of them bullying Asian countries because of size advantage, not like they come in and take candy away from babies or any of that sort. Imagine if a team like Spain joined. Seems like this issue is a bit bigger than i thought...coz so far havent really read any article or news about it being controversial. After all, the AFC committee voted yes unanimously for Australia to join AFC, meaning none of the countries really reject the idea. Would be a great debate topic i think QUOTE(rEDs @ Jan 26 2011, 11:21 PM) 30 bus armada provided by my company...5000 corporate ticket. payed for overtime & force to watch the game by Japan another issue with this AFC Asian Cup, waaaay too many corporate tickets given out to companies. We arent talking about a few hundred for each company, we are talking about thousands! If you check online, all seats are booked, marked by red. But when u go to the stadium, only about 70% filled. so much empty space which i believe genuine fans from that country, for example Korea or Japan fans, will missed the opportunity to buy the tickets. Instead, a lot of these foreign workers were "forced" to watch. the finale kick ![]() My dad's company had about 4000 people who had to have their transports settled by a complaining organizer This post has been edited by pyroboy1911: Jan 27 2011, 02:25 AM |

Kagawa could be out for the season
January 26, 2011 By ESPNsoccernet staff Borussia Dortmund star Shinji Kagawa could miss the rest of the season after he was injured in Japan's Asian Cup semi-final win over South Korea on Tuesday. Shinji Kagawa GettyImagesShinji Kagawa has been a key player for club and country. Kagawa has been one of the stars of the Bundesliga this year with eight goals in 17 league appearances and has also impressed in Qatar for his country - netting a brace in their 3-2 quarter-final win against the hosts. However, he sustained a broken metatarsal while helping the Blue Samurai to the final and could now be a big miss for club and country. "Shinji has sustained a metatarsal fracture and is already on his way back to Germany to undergo further treatment,'' Bernhard Schmittenbecher, the player's agent, was quoted as saying by Bild. ''He could be sidelined for the remainder of the season." -------------------------------------------------------- Damn. He was just about to become the first Asian ever to win Bundesliga Player of the Year.. |

Even if they do allow ASEAN Champions for automatic qualification, then what about the other sub Asian groups? For example East Asian group doesnt have a proper competition amongst themselves. So far only the ASEAN and West Asian have tournaments amongst themselves, and this wont be fair to the other groups.
And if the others have tournaments for qualification as well, then "automatic" qualification berth will be as follows: Host - 1 Top 3 in previous tournament - 3 AFC Asian Cup - 2 Winner of regional champions - 4 that would be 10 automatic slots, rendering the normal qualification process nearly useless. PS: Since Australia going into final 3 and is the host for 2015, this means there will only be Japan and the winner of 3/4th playoff for automatic qualification from the current tournament. The main reason for top 3 teams having automatic qualification is to ensure a competitive 3/4th match. So if the 4th team also qualify since OZ is the host now, it beats the purpose of this intention. That would mean an extra spot for qualification i assume? |

And yes its good for Australian football as a whole. But as an Asian ? I dont know. To be honest, issues always comes up when someone or somewhat achieves success. You can't deny that and call for sour grapes because it has always been like that. And i do know how it feels like when your own local league has a foreign winner. And it happen recently when Etoile won the S-League. It breaks my heart but as i know, thats how economy runs. Heck, i even disagree with those foreign-players playing for my home country. But i can only afford to disagree right ? |

No point debating using the definitions of continents like Asia though. Asia is entirely a Western creation. There's no real geographical reason to split continents the way they are split now, considering the diversity of Asia itself.

QUOTE(aressandro10 @ Jan 27 2011, 03:33 PM) its has been that way for ages.... the level of skill probably competitive.. but they have far better physical built than us.. The South Koreans have the highest average heights in Asia and can compare with Europeans. Their players are usually themselves physically capable, consider Ki Sung Yueng and Cha Du Ri, who are both above 180cm and play in the highly physical Scottish league. With Japan, you've got guys like Maya Yoshida and many Iranians come from the same Caucasian stock and are physically imposing as well. So we can hardly say that Asians cannot play the physical game, even though the Australians seem to think that that's the advantage they have. In terms of physical build for Malaysia though, I would attribute that to diet perhaps. It is a wonder why other Pacific populations in Hawaii and New Zealand produce people with the build to play rugby and American football well, while their relatives in Southeast Asia grow differently. But Malaysia does need to buff up I think. We don't quite have enough tall players for centrebacks, for example. |

Japan did great by winning and by the way of it, i am not surprised at all. Their gameplay is to play with resiliency that deny and frustrate opponents numerous times, and then launch a quick split pass to end the game, usually towards the end of the game when opponents are caught napping, teams like Australia, Korea (nearly) and Qatar all suffered late blows. The way they scored against Australia, means they did their homework well. The socceroos are prone to leaving their players unmarked at times and look at the goal...nobody else near Lee at all.
As for OZ, sad to see the golden generation bow out without any major trophies. Cahill, kewell, Neil, Emerton, Schwarzer, Culina...would probably wont be featuring in the 2014 World Cup. So its time for young players from A-league and lower european football league to rise up to the challenge...but i dont see them doing better than the European level players so far. Lots of effort needed. Come to think of it...if Australia wins it...then the title reads "Australia, champions of Asia" sounds so weird btw any videos of the cup lifting moments? or the moment after final whistle la. japanese cheer, Aussie's tears etc...
