This competition has been reduced to only as dress a rehearsal for World Cup 2022..sad.gif.. thats what people will be talking about all tournament long.

many of long serving Asian Stars will be missing after this.. but i also like to see how new stars like Kagawa and Honda do....

i have no doubt that Japan will win this one.. but i am more interested to lookout for the darkhorses and spoilers.... India showed they have something during the Asian Games... DPR Korea also hope to give an in-your-face performance to the capitalist world..

i agree with finals spot given through AFC Challenge Cup.

That one or two spot will do much more to the development of football in India or Krgystan than to already developed country like Saudi arabia or China..

they will become a stimulus, a reason for them to get better .....

the same can also be said to Champions qualifying route in UEFA Champions League... its about distributing the potential and benefit on wider scope..
whatever painful-minor-improvement these minnows country achive will all count for nothing if the drawn with Japan and Korea in the first round of asia Cup qualifying... let them fight among their peers and give a very meaningful reward to those who succeed... the sense of achivement will spur further developement..

if not, only the good will get better, while the bad will countinue on their spiral downward...

aressandro10, distributing - thats d important word
dont get me wrong, i agree with d idea.. but d way of d implementation is another matter..

giv d chance 2 d so called emerging nations.. im fine wit it
but at d same time, its a bit unfair 2 d so called developing nations (including ours).. looks like philipines hav better chance 2 b in asian cup rather than malaysia..

i realize afc always like 2 do grouping.. dont know y
imho, ranking way much better than grouping..
*
compare to the others, i think nations like ours has the ability to stand on our own feet. Our problem is, instead of standing, we just only like to sit on our couch and watch EPL on tv all this while smile.gif

while for countries like Philipine or India, they really need alot to spur any sort of interest even among their countryman. A spot the in Asia Cup can just do that.

AFC role, for me is more challenging than UEFA's role. It would be fanstactic if the whole of Asia can compete on merit to qualify. but Asia is soo vast and the gap between the good and the not are too wide. Its AFC's responsibility to inject some 'will' in those countries that otherwise, would just give up.

i am very impressed with AFC Challenge Cup winner India during the Asia Games. They have benefited a lot from that tournament.

world ranking only give indication of national team performance while the AFC Classification covers the state of football in the country as a whole. If you read about it, its pretty comprehensive. smile.gif

i'm surprised to see INDIA qualify for this tournament..hope MY can do it on next attempt...

during qualifying, we were beaten 3-1 home and away by that Uzbekistan team... of course our team has improve by leaps and bounds since them.. but still the difference in terms of physical attribute was too obvious... thats the glass ceiling that hampers all south east asian team really..

haha and Kuwait got their first red card!! 2 match i watch this guy refereeing, 4 red cards given in favour of China. but to be fair that Kuwaiti guy did kick out at the china player when tangled.
*
yes... the Kuwaiti players does make his job easier...

to be consistent with the asian games match, China also on several occassion continued kicking the ball or playing after the whistle has been blown.. and kuwaiti player has confront him on several occasion to talk about his decision... not even a yellow card..

North Korea ,who play in world cup 2010 ,also qualify from the  AFC Challenge Cup 2010 as winner ,the North Koreans are more stronger than Malaysia ,Malaysia shall play in the tournament to qualify by backdoor and learn from them .
*
i quite impress with development of N. Korea and India since they participate in the challenge cup.. its a good effort by AFC..

Since i think Malaysia is among the lower half of AFC's developing nation, i think its good also if we participate in the Challenge Cup... but many are too proud to even consider that.. saying that competition are for losers..

exactly..i noticed there was 0 representatives from SEA..i usually remember thailand always being in it but not this year..too many middle east teams btw..look at japans group.. shakehead.gif

but regarding the regional qualifications.where would that put australia?
*
Australia is in the mid of lobbying to join AFF. AFF Suzuki Cup will have a totally different dimension when thats happens...

i could be wrong, but Regional football federation is not recognized by AFC or FIFA. Thats why AFF Suzuki Cup matches only register as Rank A friendlies in FIFA ranking..

let them join us i'd say. can only aid our football development IMO

i am in the opinion that AFF Cup is building up its prestige as the 'OURS' thing of South East Asian people. There are a special bragging rivalry tradition between Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand-Singapore and Vietnam-Thailand-Laos-Myanmmar about winning that Cup.. i also liked how Laos and Philipines have the sipirit to close the gap which is not that far currently...

having a team of Mat Salleh coming in and robbing clean all the glory will taint that balance and make this region fall back into that loop of inferiority complex against the white masters..

they beat vietnam 3-1 with chethri scoring hatrick

they also made a good impression in the Asian Games as well.. thrashing Singapore 4-1.. and similar naive mistake to lose to Kuwait and Qatar... i like balwant singh, the no 10. .. suprised he is not in the Asia Cup team

i think their performance in the Asia Cup has semi-pro written all over it.. to be grouped with 2 world cup teams was indeed unfortunate as whatever improvement they made will be minuscule in comparison.. but they can have some heart in the 3 goals scored vs Bahrain and South Korea... and their perfomance in the second half vs Korea are less naive and more professional about it...

there are a lot room for improvement , surely, but i hope now they will have the will to implement it...

*
..
now i know why my wide screen monitor does not have any problem with it...tongue.gif

i'll take it of now and see why i can do to reduce it..

watched japan vs qatar game.and i honestly hoping them SAMURAI BLUE to win this match

everyone is hardworking
-my men Honda performs superbly during the match.he didn't score the goal but he does show his abundance of creativity
-Kagawa has found the goal again.i think he didn't used to play with them Japan and Zac's style of play(Kagawa seems to be more free in his role while in Dortmund he usually stick to Barios)
-Okazaki should get credits as well.his chips really pose problems to qatari gk
-Maeda seems to be ineffective in the role of lone striker.perhaps okazaki is more suited to the role(though finding another winger would be a pain.Abe isn't being called meaning Endo filled the CM area)
-Hasebe and Endo also prove to be effective CMs(though Hasebe seems to play deeper in a holding midfield position)
-the back four deserve credits too, though lack of understanding means they are susceptible to set-play.Uchida's absence also really missed.and Tulio/Nakazawa duo as the best centrebacks in asia
-Kawashima did alright i guess

about Qatar, there is a surprise(though they squad reeks of awang imports).
-Sebastian is really a class player
-Lawrence and Fabio is good at setplay
and that player that always falls down.otherwise he is a very bright player with pace(matching them japs!) and trickery

Added on January 22, 2011, 1:21 pmbtw moh baca doa byk2 mintak Honda& Kagawa masuk kelab BPL(x kisah la mana) and not laliga clubs

please don't repeat Afellay's mistake
*
i think Japanese and Korean players better go to la liga clubs as their silky skills, fluent movement and posses ion orientation better suit la liga and much better for their improvement. English direct physical football will kill their skills.. it takes a certain type of player to thrive in England and its well known that South American players rarely do....

to be competitive in world cups, japan and korea must learn to deflect their physical deficiencies by playing like Barca do....

And German league are much better for players from the rest of the world to come knock on Europe's door... like Kagawa did..

dropping a a draw pot is a big issue as far as qualification is concerned. Being in Pot 2 pretty much put you in range to qualify... if you in Pot 3, you have to fight the place from someone in Pot 1 or 2.. no easy feat...
