Looking at the classifications reminded me of how I've always believed that we do have a -chance- at making it to the World Cup, someday. Not next year, or the next 5 years, but someday.

Reason being, Asia is arguably one of the weaker regions in world football, and you don't really have to beat Brazil or Italy to qualify. Once you get yourself one level up from where we currently are, and start competing against the likes of Saudi, China, Iraq - which we USED to be able to - we'd have a decent shot at qualification.

The AFC classifications is interesting - if it was a league we'd be right among top the top 5, based on our recent performances. I think the next challenge for Malaysia, really, is to make it to the "developed associations" classification. Thailand is already there, and on a good day, we're good enough to beat them.

World Cup for Malaysia, I don't see why not!

i dont think that classification only covers the strength of the national team. It also covers the state of football in the country as a whole. To move ourself from 'developing' nation to 'developed' nation, we must improve also our administration, fans mentality, media and bussiness/commercial orientation of our football which is poor at best. It is almost moving mountains and as hard as to train to be our players to be a World Cup team..

Malaysian football fans mentality just like the one on developing country, prefer foreign league more than local football, just like me. Compared to the developed nation like Turkey, Japan, South Korea, Ukraine, Greece, Arab Saudi, Egypt, Germany, USA etc. of course there will be some of them that like foreign league (EPL etc.) but you can see their people support their local football scene. Their stadium is not empty like the stadiums in our nation. If this keep happening, our country will never moved to the next level in football industry.

maybe instead of getting young prime imports, how bout consider getting imports who is >30y.o. My argument is that malaysian clubs whenever foreign players are allowed, they have tendencies (and proven quite a lot) to have imports who is striker/goalscorer. For me, that's one of the reason early/mid 2000s we were dearth of having good goalscorer. We were relying heavily on imports to get the goals during league games that we missed them a lot in our international matches.

at least for me if >30yo plays here, theyre able to provide and share experience and tactical/technical abilities with us rather than them hogging the limelight themselves and shun our local talents. That is the downside of having import.

BTW how d hell some ppl gotto play with the national players on the nike event photos man... I freakin envy it!!!!!!!!

akmal rizal is one of the deadliest striker in the region yang kita pernah ada dulu pon ada kat tgh2 liga full with imports (ok tolak la argument dia pergi france tu..titus main bola smp skg kat france entah2 skg kerja dj je)

norshahrul idlan talaha oso cakap dia byk belajar dari pemain import waktu dia bermain skuad piala presiden perak.

To those who went to the Nike MY event at OU last Sunday, is there anyone who doesn't want the small sling bag they provided each guest?

during the group games we lost 1, drew 1 and win versus inferior team 1 and we got 16 points. so i expect more than 1 point extra when we won twice versus Vietnam and Indonesia who ranked higher than us..

thats what i said..

previous cycle :

1w + 1d + 1l = +16 points.

this cycle :

2w + 1d + 1l = +17 points .. i points difference only..

but i do aware that points are caculated based on average of 4 years .. not just the result of the last months..
