if u really wanna use DIgital connection, i suggest u put away those CREATIVE sound card [which dun hav a direct coax/optical out model]
u dun hv to get a GOOD sound card in order to use the digital connection coz the signal will bypass the sound card and directly send to ur Z5500 for decoding.

u can try to put up a [WTB] in garage sales section or get 1 of these..

its the Z5500's best mate, especially during DVD, games and my favorite, Stereo X2 when listen to music..

that's a selection at the back of ur Z5500' control pod,
beside all the inputs, u get to choose either 6-Channel and 3 stereo,
just push it back to 6-Channel and u're done..

i advice u to get a budget sound card which has a optical or coaxial digital output, and let ur Z5500 to decode DTS and DD [EAX @ analog only]
i saw some1 selling Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1, u should get that, the card has Coaxial out..

btw, im also using the same card with Z5500 last time, no regret...
very chun in watching DVD..

z5500 is not suitable for those soft music, but its a techno monster.. great with rock music as well..
and it works great in games too
for computer movie [avi / mpeg / rm;vb], those's movie's audio is not so great, most of the bit rate is around 128kbps, so it doesnt matter what speaker u're using [imo la]
but DVD-disc movie is another story..

adding another sc will hv improvement, since sc can let ur audio player ie Foobar using ASIO or Kernal Streaming and ur computer speed [respone] will be faster a bit [personal exp. pc without a sc sometimes wil be a bit lag when it comes to processing audio, problem not occur after adding another sc, even a cheapo rm50 Live!]

yes, im getting a 2nd hand audiotrak prodigy 7.1 LT [which is a 3yrs back product] coz im prefer to use ASIO in foobar. then connect it to my TianYun Zero DAC via optical out from the LT and then only to my Aego M..

that's another cheaper solution which is geting a USB->digital CoAx [around rm40] converter but i cant use ASIO or KS in foobar, so i guess adding another SC would be worthed in my case..

if using digital [optical/coax] to Z5500, i think a cheapo & expensive sc won't hv much difference since the signal only pass-thru, sc doesn't do any Digital-Analog Convertion

this bass monster doesn't decrease its price tag, still around rm1.4~1.5k..
i suggest u wait for Edifier S750, since Z5500 has been discountinued..
