first u hv to understand the source and the console itself,
most of the source, refers to mp3, video in what ever format,
usually are just stereo, only DVD video gives u full surround sound...

the decoder itself has 3 input, Direct, Coax n Optical.
all of that has effects like Stereo, Stereo X2, DD PLII Movie & DD PLII Music,
[* 6Ch for Direct input only]

for normal stereo source, effect like Stereo & Stereo X2 will plays in stereo,
if switch to DD PLII Movie or DD PLII Music then stereo source will plays in full surround for all 3 types of input
[for me it doesn't sounds good, i like being playing in stereo x2]
stereo source will also only plays in stereo in 6Ch Direct input
[it can be played in surround by setting in CMSS 3D, but i also doesn't like how it sounds]

coming to DVD video,
u can either choose to decode by ur sound card or the Z5500 decoder,
both will give u full surround.

if u decode by sound card,
then u hv to switch to 6Ch Direct to get REAL FULL SURROUND
bc the soundcard has seperate each channel by different cable
[ur Green, Orange & Black.].

if u decode by the Z5500 decoder
which ONLY can be done using COAX or OPTICAL],
the control pod display will shows either Dobly Digital or DTS logo when u choose the sound source...
[i prefer using Coax than 6Ch Direct]

understand so far???
anything that i missed???

u know what's digital COAX or OPTICAL cable??
try to get a sound card with either 1 of this connection, connect to ur Z5500 [that's the decoder]
then no need the Green/Black/orange cable anymore...

then u can enjoy the DTS/DD of a DVD.. [in true 5.1 ofcourse]
suggested using Stereo X2 for music..

last time im using Audiotrak Prodigy sound card, connect via both Analog n Digital, prefer digital, sound more impact
