Hey guys, just started a 2ft planted tank today.I'm using gravel that looks like this
user posted image
it is just gravel and I plan to add aquatic plant fertiliser or something like that...can anyone here tell me how much the aquatic plant fertiliser will cost?
I bought 12 neon tetras,3 runny nose tetra and 14 golden barbs.I plan to add a bit more fishes if it is not already crowded. If it is not crowded yet,can anyone suggest what type of fish I can add?I also plan to add some shrimps.
Thanks all smile.gif

i believe your are using those normal sand brought from fish shop?
type of gravel is depends on which type of plants you want to grow in your tank.
I used lava rock as base layer, then top up with amazonia II.

fertiliser i m using AZOO brand. rm15 -25 per bottle and it can last for months.
2 feet tank with 30 fishes is quite a lot for me. you have to change water more frequent to lower the ammonia level.

Enjoy your new tank thumbup.gif

Yes...so if I want a planted tank need to get ADA soil is it?
How often do I have to give the fertiliser?
I have a rectangular fish filter, those normal one for the tank...is it needed or planted tank don't need filter?
At the moment I don't have co2 but after seeing your thread, the price being cheaper by RM100 and x2 of the weight compared to the price my LFS is selling at,I've decided to get 1 from you so you got PM smile.gif The plant cannot thrive without co2 right?
LOL,sorry for all the questions.

Adding soil is because it provides nutrien to your carpet plant. It depends on which type of plant you want to put in. If root type sure need soil. In my opinion, to save cost, I put crushed lava rock as base substrates and top up with amazonia. Most of us making a mountain landscape so it would cost you around rm300 just buying the soil

Eg: plants like moss does not need soil to grow. They take nutrient from water

In planted tank, bacteria is very important. Normal type filter u mentioned does not provide good enviroment for bacteria growth. Canister filter is highly recommended

I m dosing 5 drops fert weekly + 1 cap algea remover + 1cap normal liquid fert

It's brown! I made sure of it. sad.gif So my guppies won't eat it uh? The website you provided says that I should increase intensity of light and change water... Will it really go away like that? I don't have to scrape it off uhh?  sweat.gif
*
Brown = dead
Guppy won't eat them. If they are floating then remove them
Mostly is caused by your light. I can grow moss with my outdoor tank with no water flow or co2 or addition ferts
Make sure your light is ok then only buy another batch of plants.

for 1.5 ft tank, 1 liter co2 tank is it enough?
*
As long as you got a co2 tank, it can save a lot trouble doing DIY CO2.
Some ppl prefer bigger tank, some need smaller
Some lazy to go refill every few month
Depending on your budget and your cabinet size smile.gif

Yea vendetta.
Please make a list of items you need to buy first before starting your tank
It cost me around 1.2k when first started. Not including co2 tank and fauna
You need more research about planted tank
A 3footer would cost you 2.5k easily

There is something I want to voice out about filter
Ya it is important. But it is not essential
I keep Subwassertang , Xmas moss, some stem plant in my outdoor ceramic tank
They grow healthy and strong

BUT if you wish to keep planted tank in GLASS tank, a filter is must
Purpose of using glass tank is to let us view the fishes and plants.
Without filter , whole tank will be dirty, green water

Keeping a planted tank is somehow like keeping a "child" (~_~wink.gif I don't believe I'm saying this. Lol
Weekly water change, ferts, flora, fauna. You need to do enough research before start buying stuff. Don't buy them if you don't have the commitment to take care

No offense. d(happy.gifo)
