Hi All, I am having an issue installing windows xp in my netbook which comes with a preinstalled windows 7. I am using a usb drive to do this, following this guide: Now I am able to format my usb drive to enter the windows setup, yes. But.... when I am asked to select which partition to install windows, nothing is listed. Not even the partition where windows 7 is installed. I have a stupid question, is it because there is no empty partition? But there are other partitions in the harddisk which are kept for recovery purposes etc. Why none of the partitions are being shown? Am I doing anything wrongly? Thanks sifus!

Because your hard drive is set to SATA mode instead of IDE in the BIOS. Windows XP only recognizes a hard drive when its in IDE mode. Windows Vista and above recognizes SATA mode so you wouldn't have the same issue if installing them. As for how to solve your problem, in most BIOS, your able to change the mode the hard drive is configured to run in. Unfortunately your Mini doesn't have this option. So you have to slipstream the SATA drivers (which can be downloaded from Intel ) in the XP installation image using nLite. Try to google this, you'll find guides all over This post has been edited by 3shen: Dec 21 2010, 01:55 AM

No need to slipstream it..seriously it is not worth the time Instead go to your BIOS and find an option where you can change from AHCI to IDE..that should solve your problem and you can format like normal

I have already slipstreamed the driver. Now let's see if it works... Guys, it doesn't work. Still not detecting my HDD. I installed the driver for NM10 which should be correct. But after selecting my usb drive as the source, instead of creating a new ISO, I just slipstreamed the driver in. Like that can ar? This post has been edited by jason83: Dec 21 2010, 01:59 AM

Maybe I shouldn't have recommended ghosting..it is easy if you have everything in place but definitely not an option for you You can try formatting to Windows 7 again..it should not prompt you for any SATA drivers

It works now guys. Instead of directly slipping stream to my usb, I copied over the files to a local drive before slipping stream. It works after that.
Now I need to partition my harddisk.
Edit: Guys, I managed to enter the setup. After setup copies the files required for installation, it reboots and when setup starts, it says Access Denied, something about the access denied for the i386/asms folder. Any advice?

The problem is the drivers for XP are very rare. You have to find them out.
Anyway, did you try the slipstream? I believe there is a stuck thread on top in this forum.

You are stuck because you don't have the right graphic driver for your netbook Windows XP. You netbook only having 1GB RAM, consider to upgrade it to 2GB since RAM price are dirt cheap nowadays.
