When we are using nvidia chipset for our vga, the default driver is nouveau which came together with most distros nowadays. This is free and open source driver. If we are going to use proprietary nvidia driver, command parameters in kernel need to be insert such as 'nomodeset'. This to make way to the proprietary driver to be installed successfully,

Which process you're referring to? XOrg? To me it's pretty normal, nothing too hurting, especially since you're watching a video.

XOrg really does use that amount of proc power, as how on average, not watching video, XOrg idles for me around 40~50%.

For me, nvidia ftw! not really I am a fan to green, but nvidia simplifies the driver for linux users. I am using every latest nvidia driver released by them.

Can be one of many reasons, really. Some people say this is KMS related, others have stated it's some other kernel parameter or ehci,, some have even suggested it's a bug in the way shutdown interfaces with some networking related apps (nm, for example). I can't say for sure unless you give a lot of details like lshw output, various logs, battery type (if notebook), kernel version, types of modules loaded...etc.

For now, try "shutdown -now -hP" to do a full shutdown. If that doesn't work, try "poweroff -fihp" or "halt -fihp" (as superuser/root).
