Keeper luxury for Reds
QUOTE
Edwin van der Sar, Tomasz Kuszczak and new signing Anders Lindegaard will all remain at Old Trafford for the rest of the season, providing Sir Alex Ferguson with "a luxury" of options in the goalkeeping department.

Van der Sar is, of course, United’s no.1, Sir Alex is pleased with Tomasz Kuszczak’s recent performances. Anders Lindegaard is also eligible to play after being registered with the Premier League and handed the no.34 shirt, whilst also performing encouragingly in training.

That could leave Sir Alex with a dilemma for Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Liverpool.

“Tomasz has done well, he has performed well for us,” said Sir Alex on Friday. “It’s a luxury to have three goalkeepers. Anders is available and has done well in training, but he’s not had experience in terms of games. That would have a bearing on my selection, and if Edwin isn't fit then I’d perhaps favour Tomasz in this instance.”

That leaves 20-year-old Ben Amos, limited to just two appearances this term, out of the frame - although he is highly rated at Old Trafford. “Ben will possibly go out on loan,” Sir Alex confirmed.

Chill out guys... you think they lost because of RH, they lost because they are Liverpool. New manager, same old players. You'll Never Win Anything.
*
True that. But that might just be lift that they need, even if its just for the first few games before things settles back to what they're suppose to be. It was always going to be harder as well since they something to prove us being their big rival.

QUOTE(zenix @ Jan 9 2011, 10:56 AM)
what he say and what he do is an indication of intent.
he may say nice things but don't want him, why?
we also had larsson for only a few months so why not becks.......i think might be a good sub while park is away.
*
I think he would have been a good short term player for us. With Park and Valencia still away, he could have played a part later on. But the baggage that comes with him, that's one. I bet that's the main thing SAF doesn't want to get involve in. Whether we like it or not, whenever Beckham is around, the circus will come to town as well. Another is when Larsson was here, we had Smith coming back from injury. Although he recovered faster than expected(Sept 06), it wasn't until after Larsson left that Smith was back to full fitness, but even then he wasn't the same player anymore. Saha was injured mid season again and we know how his fitness was suspect. And Ole was never the same player after the injuries he had. We needed that boost back then with only Rooney who we could rely on. In hindsight, Rossi would have gotten chances with us had he not go out on loan. And even the season after that he could have played a part, but he wanted out.

Right now we have Giggs, Nani, Obertan and Rooney(Hernandez, Owen, Berbatov can play upfront) who can play there. 3 good options, with one kid who has a bit of experience considering his age. We're not desperate this time. Would have been better recalling Cleverley.. but he got injured for 3-4 weeks!

QUOTE(nazq @ Jan 9 2011, 11:05 AM)
Hmm, I thought veteran defenders usually last longer than the ones in other position.

Regarding the Becks thing, what is the fuss anyway? Let him do what he want and where he want to play. *Although in my FM right now he plays at Watford
*
Injuries, just like what happened to Ole. Once they're at that age, injuries become a problem. Scholes and Giggs got lucky they don't have any serious injuries at the same age.

hmm, wanted to see the trio retired together at the same time but oh well. yep, gary has been a great servant to the club and its best he retire end of this season. things didnt work out for him after recent injuries.
as for giggs and scholes, they both got another season to go right ?
legends, still going strong
*
They got at least another season. But could easily make it two if they keep themselves in good shape. Same goes for VDS.

He has a career to think about. At least he doesn't join one of our main rivals. That's good enough. He is still very much ManUtd at heart. Same with Ruud even though he wanted out that time. Most of the players who left love us actually.

QUOTE(GulengBeng @ Jan 9 2011, 04:04 PM)
Yeah..nobody in the world would say no to play for man utd.. but i think 15 million for a 25yr old keeper is too much for SAF's liking..
*
With todays market, that would be a decent price for a GK especially top rated ones at that age. 20m+ would be on the expensive side.

QUOTE(nazanto @ Jan 9 2011, 03:53 PM)
my muppet inside me cannot tahan la when read bout Rene Adler. what a fan!!!
he even got some special clause in his contract just for Man Utd.
*

Thing is, every 'young' GK have these blunders. Heck, even the Inter GK make blunders.

QUOTE(nazanto @ Jan 9 2011, 04:18 PM)
u wrong actually. nowadays more player would say no to Man City.
yes maybe 15 million is quite pricey, but i dont think we can just put Anders lindegat(name spelling) straight to 1st team. he might be be good goalkeeper in future. but he also might turn to be another Roy Carrol,Tim Howard, Taibi n so on.
*
When judging GKs, it's never a sure thing even if we get the best ones around not yet played at a top club. VDS was a sure thing, yet didn't quite reach the standards for Juve. He ended up at Fulham(although that time they were the Chelsea/City of that time, although on a smaller scale). We can only just buy whoever we think is good, and hope for the best that the guy, whoever that is will be able to cope with the pressure of playing in goal for us.

25 yr old is still young for a gk

some gk is going strong in the age of 40.

40-25=15 yr of service yo

There's no realistic choice for those older than the group below 28.

QUOTE(kamkamparadise @ Jan 9 2011, 06:09 PM)
one thing we know that Rene Adler have international experience and also champions league experience. that would prove to be vital for him to fill in the gloves left by VDS when he retire. If we look at Fergie past GK signings; Howard, Marshall, Ricardo, Carroll, Barthez, Kuszscak, Foster, Bosnich and Taibi, only Barthez have good CV but unfortunately he flopped badly.
*
A bit unfair to lump them all together. Carroll, Ricardo, Kuszczak was brought in as backup. They served their purpose even though they're not perfect. But Kuszczak must be one of the best 2nd Gk around IMO. Hardly let us down these days. Bosnich did well, and he was sort of an emergency. SAF wanted different GKs, but the board at the time was a bit stingy I think.

Strong Liverpool side that. Pretty flexible too. Hope we don't give stupid freekicks away.

Meireles-Lucas
Kuyt-Gerrard-Maxi
Torres

It was never going to be pretty. Although we won, things might have been very different had Gerrard stayed on the pitch. They know how to play us. They defended really well, letting our CBs do the passing. There was hardly any space.. even when they were down to 10. Good job from them I say. If they play that way every game, they will climb up the table.
