remember to swipe 1% for only rm1k. starting next month, rebate for 1% & 5% will be conbined together to rm50 only per month sweat.gif
*
It should be RM2,000. Before 1/1/11, maximum cash back per month for the 1% category is RM20.

QUOTE(killbill @ Dec 17 2010, 11:21 AM)
next year onwards, cash rebate will be capped at rm50 a mth. so let's say i buy a TV from a supermarket, eg. Tesco, it will be billed under 'groceries shopping' so 5% lo rite? let's say TV is rm2k, 5% of rm2k is rm100!!! so i should choose to pay per installment lo, better ma like that rite? if not wasted cos capped at rm50 nia. correct?  brows.gif
*
You can split your payment by using 2 cards. Assuming that it is your first swipe on OCBC Titanium MC during the statement month, you can use your OCBC Titanium MC to pay the first RM1,000 in order to enjoy the full RM50 cash back. The balance can be settled by another card, i.e, Amex Platinum cc or Amex Gold cc for the 5x MR points.

Here is my strategy next year (and actually this year as well tongue.gif)

Spend RM1k on 5% items only per month -> RM12k per year  (free annual fee + free gst)

How to do it?

- 3-4 days before the end of the billing cycle, whatever gap to the RM1k limit, pay extra into utilities/phone bills using internet banking or over the counter

Utilities need to be paid every month anyway, might as well put extra in there and earn the 5%.
*
As for me, from January 2010 onwards I will only use OCBC Titanium MC for expenses under the 5% cash back category. It's easy to hit RM1,000 per month for utility, hypermarket and restaurant bills. Payment for the rest will be via Amex or SCB for 2x points.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Dec 17 2010, 11:58 PM)
Such as ? I mean besides EON Bank, Standard Chartered and Hong Leong Bank that we already know.
*
Somebody get it done from MBB. As for new card application, a lot of banks are offering cash back or points to offset or reimburse the service tax.

new card (1st year) need to pay that gst then cover it back via cash rebate.
*
For new SCB cards, you need not do anything. Soon after your application is approved, you account will be granted RM88 for Gold card or RM188 for Platinum card and the service tax is also charged almost simultaneously. At that point in time, your account will have a surplus of RM38 or RM138. Currently, this is one of the best deals for cc application.

SCB which card are entire to get 2x points?
*
QUOTE(chemistry @ Dec 18 2010, 11:14 AM)
That's right. It's SCB WMC. But 2x points are given with the condition that your monthly spending must be more than RM1,500. Or else, you will only get 1.5x points.

Alternatively, it is highly recommended to use SCB Business Visa Platinum. It gives 0.5% cash back plus 1x point, equivalent to 1% cash back or 2x points without any spending limit.

I am aware of the HSBC and Standard Chartered promotion. I just want to know what are the banks that offer to give free points to help their existing customers to pay for the credit card tax other than the 3 banks i mentioned earlier.
*
As mentioned, MBB has started giving out free points to compensate existing customers for the service tax. However at this juncture, only very few customers are selected for this benefit.

Charge card is convenient for those who always spend beyond the CL of their other CCs. They do not need to "beg" the banks to increase their CLs.

I was surprised to learn that some shops in Shanghai only accept Visa when I was in Shanghai a few months ago. I intended to buy some entrance tickets using my MC, but the counter officers said that they would only accept cash or Visa. The similar incident also happened in a restaurant in Shanghai.

However in Malaysia, I reckon MC offers more perks than Visa. CIMB MC vs CIMB VI is a good example.

if u really want to swipe rm10k with 1 card, go for pbb esso/mobil (free for life).
it give 0.5% so swipe 10k u will get rm50 too, but this card rebate is unlimited!

or if more than 10k, go for pbb visa plat (free for life with conditions), >10k rebate is 0.55%.
other cashback card that offer rebate unlimited are cimb petronas (free for life) & std chartered buss plat (both 0.5%).

Talking about big swipe, I had done enough survey before swiping a huge amount for partial downpayment of my recent property purchase. I needed to pay RM80,000 within 2 weeks and the developer accepted MC or Visa, but not Amex. During that time I only had Amex Gold cc, OCBC Titanium and SCB JustOne Titanium. I wanted a card which could give maximum rebate for the big swipe. I shortlised HLB Visa Essential, PBB Platinum and SCB WMC. HLB Visa Essential does not give cash back to offset the service tax for new card, while PBB Platinum's cash back and points are based on complicated tier system and PBB could not guarantee to deliver the card within 2 weeks. In the end, I applied for SCB WMC and received the card 14 days later. SCB gave me 30,000 points as a welcome gift. Soon after I received my SCB WMC, I paid the partial downpayment using SCB JustOne Titanium (RM10,000 for 5% cash back) and SCB WMC (RM70,000 for 2x points or 1% cash back). For those who are familiar witn SCB JustOne Titanium should know that this card gives 5% cash back for all types of purchases made on Fridays and the maximum cash back per year is capped at RM600. The reason I swiped only RM10,000 on SCB JustOne Titanium was that I had already spent more than RM5,000 and SCB JustOne Titanium needs an annual spending of RM15,000 for AF waiver.

After the huge transaction was made, I immediately applied for DA VI which was given 1-hour instant approval in Pavilion. Thereafter I submitted the application for the 0% interest BT programme for 6 months from SCB to DA. By doing this, I could delay the payment but at the same time, the money that I had reserved for the payment to the developer could also keep growing in my deposit account. biggrin.gif

Only a few developer accept credit card, normally they receive cash only. Seriously if every CC user like u, bank will be mad because they earn nothing from u, terbalik u earn back from them thumbup.gif  laugh.gif
*
Most of the developers in the Klang Valley nowadays accept booking fee via CCs. Some even allow you to use CCs paying the first 10% downpayment. If the developer does not allow you to pay the downpayment in full using CCs, you may pay partial downpayment (up to the maximum amount allowed by the developer) by CCs and it is such a good deal for you actually.

QUOTE(erry- @ Dec 19 2010, 01:13 PM)
1. HLB do offer cashback to cover the gst NOW sweat.gif
2. PBB Plat cashback system is not complicated as Alliance. it just straight forward count, not tier smile.gif

its rm600 per year biggrin.gif
*
1. HLB Visa Essential does not give cash back to compensate the service tax.
2. PBB Platinum's cash back is not a flat rate. It depends on the amount spend. Also, PBB could not give me guarantee of delivery of new card within 14 days.

And yes, SCB JustOne Titanium's maximum cash back per year is capped at RM600.

QUOTE(chemistry @ Dec 19 2010, 01:40 PM)
If it is true, then doesn't he make a mistake to swipe JustOne too much?

if he already earned some cashback previously, the remaining quota must be less already. Hence this 10K swipe might not earn full 5% rebate but the remaining cashback limit.
*
Yes, the last swipe of RM10,000 on Friday did not earn a full 5% cash back. It was done purposely as I wanted to hit the AF waiver requirement of RM15,000 spending per annum. Prior to the big swipe of RM10,000, I had already spent RM5,000++ on a combination of Fridays and other days (about RM180++ cash back received). The RM10,000 swipe actually gave me cash back value of approximately RM420. In total, I received the maximum cash back per year at RM600. At the same time, my card also hit the minimum spending requirement for AF waiver.

QUOTE(erry- @ Dec 19 2010, 01:45 PM)
no mistake there smile.gif

justone give 5% only on friday, other day is 2%.

he said he already swipe 5k, probably on other day (not friday), so he already get back 2% which is rm100.
then he swipe another 10k (on friday) to get 5% so its rm500.

he also said he swipe 10k only want free AF (since already swipe 5k).

so he get max cashback and free AF  thumbup.gif

usually people who use 'limited'/max/capped cashback cc, they will know/calculate regarding the cashback amount  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

I must say Winner bro you're such an intelligent consumer. :clap
Your 10K swipe also entitled you to guaranteed gift (Digital photo frame) am I correct? And stand a chance to win an iPad! Whoah!

I beg to differ on the issue of HLB cash bonus. I saw the promo with my own eyes, they really give RM50 after 2 swipes within 45 days frm approval date.
*
My purchase was done in August and there was no promotion and contest at that time. What a waste! But at least I can escape from being trapped into the government new policy to curb property speculation announced in October, whereby consumers are disallowed to be granted 90% loan margin for third property loan onwards.

cashback will be credited into the Principal Cardholder’s Card within 150 days from card approval date.
so need to pay rm50 gst 1st and hope get back that amount or rm100 on 6th statement  laugh.gif

During the time I enquired about this card back in August, this cash back offer was not in place yet. That time HLB only offered free points to reimburse the service tax payment. As HLB Visa Essential is a cash back card and not point based, there was no incentive to HLB Visa Essential new cardholders for the service tax payment at that time.

SCB JustOne Titanium is no longer open to new application since end of last year. It was mainly due to the overwhelming response as this card gives 5% cash back on Frdays and 2% cash back on non-Fridays for all retail purchases (including petrol). There is no cash back cap per month, but it is capped per year at RM600. On top of that, every RM2 spent (excluding petrol) is also entitled to 1x choice point.

Are you having more than one SCB card? If you have 2 SCB CCs, then having 2x free 11,000 points would make sense.

Yes, sometimes I do feel that SCB JustOne Titanium is better than OCBC Titanium.

what i mean is rm50 cashback for the card / rm50 credited back in the card statement, not a voucher with value of rm50 sweat.gif

like hsbc, 12.5k points can get rm50. hsbc rewards - look at C302 / C304

previously i redeem rm300 (75k points). hsbc offer 3x points if swipe oversea.

amex, 10k points can get rm50 back. amex rewards - the example is 100k points for rm500.

amex gold offer 5x points if swipe at selected place such as groceries & petrol.

while DA can pay with points at certain shop - 10k points for rm50 - Pay with Points - min purchase rm25 (5k points).

so, do mbb dont have this kind of rewards?  hmm.gif
*
MBB does not have cash redemption at the moment. SCB also have cash to be redeemed. You can use 5,000 points to redeem RM25 cash back. It's better than voucher redemption, where you need approximately 12,000 points to redeem a RM50 shopping voucher.

make more than 1 reminder. put sticky notes on ur desktop screen, write it at whiteboard at living room, etc.

*
The easiest way is to request the banks to change the statement date and subsequently adjust the due date to first day of every month, if the banks are willing to do so. I have done this to my Amex and Alliance CCs before. And now, all my CCs and housing loans have the same due date, i.e, either on the first or last day of every month. As far as I am concerned, my accounts have only one date, that's the last day of every month.
