i know the avsforums has one with hundreds of dedicated followers smile.gif

I seriously hope you're joking, bro. Because I found one of your previous threads in Version 9.0 of this thread where you spoke of PQ & AQ:

Exactly, and i think with grain present (of course without EE), the film looks gritty. As long as the deep & vibrant color, vivid details are intact, its always nice to enjoy every frame of it.

Sometimes, i do feel some movies which are without grains present, i feel the quality as if its been deeply washed out and blurry as well as loses its colors.
*
Which movie are you talking about bro? As far as I know, without grain, the film would look sharper, and not blurry. Care to share? nod.gif

Bro,

Appreciate your lengthy attempt at justifying your earlier comment.

Yes, I've seen pics of your home theater set up which you have posted and I'd say it's one of the best (if not the best) that I've seen in the thread so far. And for that I give you this - notworthy.gif

Why do you say that the general audience of this thread would not show much interest? A slight mention of film grain on 300 to Jenn77 and look at the response it has generated. I've learned quite a bit myself today. nod.gif

I believe the whole purpose of this thread is to share knowledge about BD titles, especially on PQ and AQ. Isn't that what separates BDs from DVDs and VCDs in the first place? nod.gif

Please write more references to "particular scenes of a movie to talk about tonal balance, skin tones, palette drop outs, over saturation, pixilazation etc".

I, for one, will be very well interested to read about it. nod.gif

cheers.gif

For war movies on BD, my personal favourite is still Full Metal Jacket

That's a classic, watched it on DVD last time

There's a book that teaches English to Japanese using dialogue from that movie

Upgrade to BD, it's worth it. Great PQ! [I am allowed to talk about PQ here right? tongue.gif ]

There's a really interesting special feature on the making of the movie as well.

FMJ may not drop any jaws but it's a different perspective on war altogether, souped up and served Kubrick-style nod.gif

Saving Ryan's Privates, ooops, I meant Saving Private Ryan goes without saying. AQ is reference material right? I found The Thin Red Line and Platoon a bit too dreary for my liking.

Blade Runner's transfer was immaculate. Also got North by Northwest on my radar. Cinema Paradiso is UK Region Free version right? If i'm not mistaken it's not the director's cut version of it. hmm.gif

From what I've watched so far, I'd say Zulu. nod.gif

Perhaps Criterion's release of Seven Samurai will upstage that. Anyone has that one already?

For me 2001 A Space Odyssey , Blade Runner, The Bridge On The River Kwai, Zulu, The Sound Of Music certainly classics that presented well on Blu-ray
*
Have you watched the The Bridge On The River Kwai? Intend to get it but it's kinda pricey at the moment.

Lawrence of Arabia would be another epic not to missed on blu-ray nod.gif

There's loads of sellers with great prices mate. Make sure they have the "Top Rated Seller" tag.
And Positive feedback 98-100%. Below than 90% also quite fishy.

I know how to identify them, but don't trust any at all.
*
There are some trustworthy ones and you can get good titles at good prices. But if I tell you the trusted sellers which I frequent than that would make you my bidding rival, no? brows.gif

Some even ship for free. Most are around US$4-6/title, but if you buy more than one title, you can nego for cheaper shipping nod.gif

Why bother to buy it there then? I went to HN Midvalley and they had a room to let you sit down and test it out, They had a demo BD with the best bits from Saving Ryan's Privates, Band of Brothers, The Incredible Hulk, an Iron Maiden concert, Michael Buble, and others.

The second time I went there to make payment and confirm, I brought along my Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley icon_rolleyes.gif

Looking at your collection, you have quite a few titles with reference-quality AQ. Bring 'em along. nod.gif

Especially enjoyed Everlong

Was disappointed with the sort of acapella version of Everlong. My fave foo song ever and with the drum rolls, it would've been a blast if they jammed it the usual way. nod.gif

My fave song performances from that BD would be All My Life, Breakout and the classic Monkey Wrench cool.gif

my highlight of the disc was prob rock n roll with members from led zepellin... epic

anyone any comment of the actual quality of the recording? i found the vocal portions a bit too dominant in the mix
*
Vocals probably coz almost all the time Dave Grohl's screaming into the mic with fury biggrin.gif

Any track in particular? I'll go back and watch it later. nod.gif

By the way, I caught this over the weekend:

The Sky Crawlers

Attached Image

PQ is alright, but it is the AQ which is awesome. I'll just quote the reviewer from blu-ray.com:

"this film could be used as demonstration material for the unique use of surround channel separation to create a cinematic experience that is truly engulfing. Anyone with an interest in aerial jet battles will be treated to a first-hand experience that (dare I say) surpasses anything we've heard in live action films such as Top Gun. The sound of bullets as they zing past the aircraft, or the whir of the propellors approaching from the back of the room blend together with clarity and spatial precision to create a jaw-dropping experience. "

Surround channel separation - top class

Bro yonggoh, get this one and I assure you that not only will your friends drop their jaws, but their pants as well (without them even realising it) tongue.gif

For suspense and naik bulu roma experience with no brutality or gore yet with an interesting plot and shocking twist in the end, I would strongly recommend:
