QUOTE(hengguowei @ Dec 10 2010, 10:47 PM) Just go get the 50mm f/1.8, less than RM400; It'll give you far better quality, speed and very nice bokeh compared to those zoom lens.Believe me, you might not want to use your kit lens anymore except when you need wider view; For zooming, you can use your leg to zoom. For me 50mm f1.8 is good but if traveling u want capture fast object slow somemore limited range. I am more a range person so can capture more. By the time u take your 50mm walk there haha too slow di. QUOTE(hengguowei @ Dec 10 2010, 10:55 PM) At the moment I want only a walkaround lens. 50mm f/1.8 can be walkaround lens, altough can be quite tight since the on APS-C size sensor, the range need to X 1.5 or 1.6.18-135 is what I'll ask my mum to buy coz it's 1 of the lens kit option for 550D. But but 50mm f/1.8 is cheap, can consider it because when you go in low light condition, your kit lens maximum aperture at 18mm is 3.5, you'll suffer in low light, worst when you zoom cause the aperture will stop down. When you want to take portrait with nice bokeh, you'll struggle with your kit lens and you can't get a good result like those primes. Anyway, it's just additional option for you since it's just top up a little more; You should ask the shop let you try it then you will see the BIG difference and know what I mean. Haven't try you wouldn't know. Once tried, then you will know whether you want it or not. Most of the time, people will be amazed with prime lens. By the time u take your 50mm walk there haha too slow di. My opinion. True, but the 50mm f/1.8 is cheap, can consider get one should be no problem. There will be time when he go into low light place, or events, dinner, birthday party, open house, etc. All these, the kit lens he will struggle, even worst if he zoom in which increase the aperture. Imagine the maximum aperture is f4 or f5 when zoom longer, and since zoom the shutter need to compensate for it, only option is to increase the ISO which will sacrifice the quality/details of the picture already. When using prime lens, can shoot at f2 ~ f2.8, ISO can be keep low while getting correct/good exposure. |
