I joined O&G engineering consultancy 16 months ago after grad as piping engineer but now quitting to another field sweat.gif

For those who all O&G engineers are highly paid, that's wrong, at least in Msia. Only those with EXPERIENCE will be highly paid.

Yes, consultancy firms always pay lower than contractor companies for fresh/entry levels and that is in any industry. As stated in previous posts, there are daily allowances if you go to the site. the high pay comes in terms of allowances offshore. so if you don't really work offshore, you can't really expect the high pay by just staying in the office. but at no means am i degrading a designer's work. as you grow in experience and technicality your knowledge might surpass the value of the offshore worker. but by that time the guy working offshore might have amassed a whole lot of money by then.

anyway, i'm working in singapore so i can't really say much about the pay in malaysia except from what i hear from my friends working back home.

Can civil engineer work in o & g??

Design office. Field. Civil engineering background is not as wanted as mechanical or electrical for offshore works but we can go into quite a few departments. And at the end of the day, it is your experience n work qualification that really matters in the end. I have a business grad friend that went into ong but through exp. got some certs and of course a lot of confidence. anyway, i say if ur grades are good, go straight for the big comps. not because they care about academics, but if they had hundreds applying for their vacancies, of course they would take the candidates with higher grades. if your grades are not so good, like mine, go for the less know companies. contractors if you want field work a.k.a money. what i hear in malaysia is that basic is low but allowance is quite competitive. and normally increases after probation n such, because afraid if give so much but end up quitting after 1 offshore job, rugi. so much to pay for your basic offshore survival training and stuff.

Need some help. Should i quit n study, quit n get job back in malaysia or just continue work?

Here is my situation, I am currently working for small subcontractor. I am required to do both field work and office work. However, my seniors have been in the same position for far too long doing the same thing with no career progress. Only good thing is it is Singapore based n get SGD salary.

I would like to move on to a bigger company ASAP because I'm afraid that no matter how long I work, if I move, I would be considered junior because only small responsibility. However my Pointer is only 2.9.

So my option 1, study to repair pointer n align career to Pet. Eng. from civil engineering. Pro, higher chance of working for E&P company like exxonmobil, shell. Con, low or no income for 1 n half year (opportunity loss if not working).

Option 2, work in Malaysia. Pro, have higher chance of getting bigger company (Singaporeans n pr prioritized n hard to compete what's left with cgpa 2.9) (already got RWP interview offer).

Option 3, just continue working. Pro, earn SGD n might be able to get pr n get better company. Con, what if still can't get bigger company??!! Dun wanna waste time n potential experience in bigger company.

Hi guys!

Anybody have any contacts in TL Offshore? I have worked with them during my time as a subcontractor doing small part of offshore platform installation. After a year of offshore experience, I would like to go into bigger contractor. I just need the contact to read my resume that's all. Whether I get a job or not doesn't matter. I have tried calling Sapuracrest but very hard to get through. Should I just go and hand in myself maybe? Sapura@mines right?

Why waste your money for someone's signature? Your uni don't have any PE? Worse comes to worse just send in by hand at JKR building n hunt for PE there like me. Just need to come around 11-12, if not offices mostly empty. Just make sure have all checklist checked. Wang pos can get from pos office.
