I happened to come across this topic whilst updating some information and thought I should share a few tips for those interested in the O&G industry.

I have been in this industry for approximately 3 years now (previously I.T) and a few tips I have for those interested in joining the Malaysia O&G industry.

1) Always keep yourself updated on the latest engineering trends and technology available in the industry, I find this a very informative and productive information sharing forum: http://www.eng-tips.com/

2) Always remember that what you learn does not necessarily apply to your work. I noticed many engineers these days tend to follow everything by the book without researching further which causes a lot of wrong specifications which in turn gives a bigger headache to the procurement division who are unable to source a material which is no longer in production

3) Always spare some time to listen to vendors promoting their products. I know some people do not agree to me on this thinking that they are just wanting to see you to sell but they are the ones who are always introducing new technologies and sometimes technical information which helps in your work.

Last but not least, never be afraid to raise to your HOD (Head of Department) if you believe there is a better option. E.g Petronas specifications are outdated in some areas and will take awhile to update. Yes, it will take a lot of trouble to raise an issue to the clients but they are always very open to suggestions.

I hope this post will be of help to some of those wanting or are just starting out in the O&G industry.

Hi everyone!  I finished my internship in corrosion consultant firm. I found that the job prospect as a corrosion engineer is very good since corrosion control field is a high-demand niche market. With 5 years of experiences and some professional certificates, a corrosion engineer can get pay as high as >10K (told by O&G insiders).

But  most of the corrosion service providers, they are looking for experienced corrosion engineers and they only offer so little (RM1.8k to RM2k) for fresh graduates. Any advices from seniors here about how to start a career in corrosion field ( CP, RBI, integrity ) ?

I did my research and found out a list of companies deal with corrosion:
mach3 engineering, norimax, corrtrol, best wide, intetech, ISIS, MPE, iicorr, wilson taylor. But most of them do not have any opening for fresh graduates. any advices?

Mach3 and Best Wide Corr would be a good company to work for. Both their bosses are spearheading NACE in asia.

PM me your resume and I'll see if I can help you out.
