an ex-colleague who was with SLB as FE, around 1 year plus later gave up FE due to sometimes helicopter schedule & weather & also family commitment.
that is why lot of people nowadays talk is bigger than when comes to practical & is that really one can take it?
*
some people would kill for that position(FE for SLB). at least i know i would. biggrin.gif

some of the HSE alerts from rig mostly from these kinds of kerah tenaga jobs  smile.gif at least at rig the stringent requirements on HSE systems are always there.
but not in palm oil... have some seniors work & course conductor commented on palm oil  sweat.gif  1 leg kick. accessible to various resources almost zero.

again, talk is easier than act & practical, not to discourage you but that is the reality out there.
anyhow, those companies have certain assessment tools to evaluate if one is suitable for particular postings & job scopes. in the end, still back to the reality when actually performing the jobs on-spot with evaluation.

what are the job scopes of an FE?curious to know hmm.gif

@figuremeout

that question is so general....FE only means that u are an engineer working in the field.Your job scope will depend on what you do,for example, well testing,wireline,mwd/lwd,cementing,wellbore surveying, coil tubing,etc...
*
Wow...i have not heard any of those.

since u had mentioned u would kill for it, so no need to be spoon-fed. doh.gif
and you shall have all necessary infos & all preparations have been done more than anyone else for you to kill it.
anticipating you to share your infos. rclxms.gif

hoo weve come a long way anyway, biar la dia ingin masuk jd roughneck.no job can be termed "easy" so to speak.its always a challenge, about the pay environment etc etc.

anyway still the question lies how do you join it??x kisah la hard or easy i rarely see any ads for those positions nor ive known any companies/recruiters doing the rounds for it.
*
agree.
what i see so far is all about demotivating new comers and bragging about how far they have survived. Please motivate others. Yes...we new comers dont have a clue and we asked silly questions. Having extra passion to join this industry doesnt mean we under estimate the work pressure. wink.gif

QUOTE(Macca @ Sep 27 2011, 10:07 PM)
Most of the comments here are not to demotivate people..it is more like telling the truth and to let people know about the reality in the O&G rather than giving delusions to people..isn't it serve the purpose of this thread telling people who have not been in O&G about how the real O&G world is like? I thought many people want to hear the experiences that others have gone through in this industry and i understand that facts always hurt or rather demotivating (if you feel that way)...actually, no one is stopping anyone who has passion to go for what you want but before that, understand the reality by listening to experienced people rather than fantasizing about the good pay in O&G..

IMHO, many comments on roughneck/roustabout is because that job is extremely physical and tough beyond your imagination. If someone who has experiences in rough jobs posting that,i believed no one will make such drastic comments. However, if someone from an office job saying that, it is normal for everyone who has seen how tough is the job, to tell you that it is not as easy as you think. I can see no one is hiding that fact and for those who dunno should actually be glad that they can hear some honest response. No one is bragging how they have survive because in O&G, there is a lot of different areas of jobs but being in the field,we can see how roustabout/roughneck work...if you ask how is the job of a process engineer in O&G,you may get response such as it is an easy job or you will just sit in the control room looking at the computers and press some buttons when the alarm buzz....

it is all depends on how you look at the feedbacks that other people gave in this thread...
*
What delusions?the whole world knows how tough the industry is but it is not being delusion to be excited about pursuing the career. This thread isnt about sharing and telling about the job/environment experience between those who are working for the industry only unless if the thread title is "Oil&Gas Employees only" then it's a different issue. Whether one can survive or whether the job is beyond my imagination arent the issue. i respect your feedback but how can they be sure of my weaknesses or strength? Never under estimate someone's will to be successful because it might exceeds your imagination too. If they can survive,so can i.If some of the forumers think that basic questions are too silly to be entertained, feel free to use the PM function among yourselves.

Pardon me for any rough statements but it is important to voice it out.
