Wow many posts here. My friend just posted up recruitment drive for FE by Gyrodata.

He seems to be having a lot of fun, and the pay is superb. =)

For those interested may want to look it up.

Due to the their ever increasing GWD business in the region(Gyro While Drilling), nowadays they prefer to hire candidates with MWD experience.

Freshies can try though, but learn more about their business first and study how directional surveying works if they ever call you for interview.

The interview is pretty straight forward unlike other oil companies, and if you do well in the first meeting chances are you will be called by the HR within a week to discuss about your employment contract.

I saw the job ad and looks like the Middle East - Australiasia is up for grabs. This position has been vacant for a long time so I wondered why they still couldn't get an engineer to fill this up? whistling.gif

The pay "looks" superb only because the money per workload ratio of the job is one of the highest in the oilfield industry. Also, make sure you ask if this job is god damn tax free or not. (meaning to say if earnings are not subjected to Malaysia taxation laws). If not tax free, think twice. I'm only saying this because you will be required to travel regularly and work in countries like Qatar and Papua New Guinea, so make sure you are well compensated in riyals and Australian dollars!

Now start sending your resumes and learn how to speak Dutch!

well that's basically wat im looking into.. .i am  an  engineering graduate. i am an engineer but wondering which unit/depts in oil n gas that approved  colour blinded person..any otai/senior in o&g ..so far i just know 1..my slb fren in well completion...

I can't tell you which division in O&G that accepts this handicap but i can tell you for sure that color blind ppl is not "preferred" in wireline logging, MWD because most of time their work involves a lot of log monitoring on the PC screen.

Since different logs have different color and you can have as many as 10-11 log graphs on the screen at one time, it's really hard to tell which one is which if you are color blind.

What are the common parameters that are measured during MWD/LWD in the industry? Are resistivity and polarization considered as common? I'm going to complete my master soon and my study areas are more concentrated on magnetic and electrical studies on rock.
Not really sure what kind of position I should be looking for later.. blink.gif

MWD: Azimuth (non applicable if the hole is vertical), Inclination, Gravity Tool Face, Magnetic Tool Face (< 3 deg incl), Shock & Vibration data

Standard parameters in LWD : Gamma Ray, SP, Resisitivity, Neutron-Density, Caliper (some tools have this feature eg Sperry's ACAL Nuke)

Magnetic Resonance and Acoustic Logs are normally performed upon request from client only. Nowadays, most wireline companies include acoustic tools in their full flegded logging string package.

What was your degree course?

Btw, how difficult is it to apply for roughneck jobs in O&G?

Roughneck jobs? SPM or PMR will cert will do. But must be able to work like a bear. THat's the main pre requisite. Not academic qualifications
