you can remove pre-installed apps in the phone if you have root access..

if ur wife feels happy with 2.1 so jz stick with it for a while..

im impressed with this device on froyo..beats my girl's eclair SE x10 quadrant score
later on, i froyo'ed the x10 and it left my spice far behind

the point is, upgrading the firmware does improve the device's capabilities a lot.

but again, some people jz dont mind it..saw some ppl still stuck on donut!

it is very helpful indeed.

havent dl it yet but should be stock csl rom,if u made the backup while still running on stock rom

and for those who didnt know

unzip the file. copy the folder (genericly named in YYYY-MM-YY-TT.TT format in most cases) and place it inside sdcard>clockworkmod>backup

then can restore it via rom manager or recovery menu

perm root..temp root loses access after reboot

when you tried to flash clockworkmod recovery?

select "Commtiva z71 (boston,blaze and more)"

hmm something is wrong somewhere.

upon clicking 'backup current rom' from rom manager, it prompts you to put a name, jz tap OK
phone should reboot into recovery mode the u'll see a lot of progress texts and a status bar.
upon completion it'll reboot back.

remove your battery if stuck on csl logo and retrace your steps again

edit : performed backup n the foremention steps : took me less than 10minutes.
i highly suggest you install 'titanium backup' to check your root access status,fix problems etc.

for custom rom.. i'd say superbler v4.1

firetraps jellybean sounds promising too..but yet to try em tho.


for 2.3... really2 stable rom,not yet..they're nightly builts..
but some builds are quite good if u wanna try 2.3

maybe u can post here what u did step by step so we can see where went wrong.

try launcher apps like adw launcher, gde, launcher pro,panda home etc.. each have extensive theme collection

2)- use "install from zip...." option from recovery to update the rom and then gapps next
3) reboot

should be booting into new rom. fyi, i never tried to install roms via rom-manager inside phone.jz from recovery...

hmm try tapping 'reboot into recovery' in rom manager. the phone will reboot with little text on topleft corner 'enter recovery mode' and within seconds you'll be here


and i forgot to tell you, if you are trying to install CynogenMod 7 roms (gingerbread) you'll need a version 3.X recovery.

if u wanna root ur current rom i'd u download & install universal androot to ur phone

strangely strange.

last but not least
u have titanium backup?
u can see ur root status (important,should be 'OK)
tap 'problems' (to fix any possible errors)

anyone tried superbler 4.2 yet?

cynogen #28,#39 is actually a CynogenMod 7 (gingerbread) nightly build roms.. which explains the frequent release. each with some improvements or alteration. they're considered experimental and we're welcome to try it.


how to chase?

theres a bunch of stable froyo builds..
as for me i'd pick the 1 most suited for me.. UI, added apps,features,speed &energy consumption bla bla bla

each rom have their own characteristic and some flaws as well.

for me superbler4.1 rocks. havent tried jellybean & bakpia cokelat tho..

and superbler4.2 is out...

things that bugs me in superbler 4.1 is the wifi will sleep too if the phone went to sleep (disconnect).even when u already put the wifi sleep policy to 'never'.

but with apps like 'REGPON wifi keepalive', superbler 4.1 is good to go.

those sdcard issues havent got me on CM7 or any other builds..since im using class 4..when way back on class 2,yeah.

ur on which build now?

eager to try superbler4.2 but backup/restore apps is such a hassle..

anyone tried 'advanced restore' in recovery menu?..apparently theres a lot of options..
