Hi guys, I'm a acc & fin graduate and currently pursuing my ACCA. I didnt do very well for my degree (2:2) so im hoping i could enter any Big 4 through my ACCA.

Im planning on a Feb-March intake next year, but intend on applying now to secure a job. I passed my 3 papers in the first go, 2 left.

Do you think now is the right time to apply? or should i wait for my remaining results?
Also, i was thinking about advisory>assurance. Are the requirements for candidates the same?

Please please feedback what you guys think. Thank u so much!

First, you have to assess the chances of getting hired by big 4 based on your degree's results
even if you're applying using your ACCA results (after passing), they'd still refer back to your degree's results and go as far back as SPM.

Second, you need to consider whether you can juggle between work and studies. I've seen a lot of my colleagues failed their papers because they didn't have time to sleep, let alone study (during peak). If you join after ACCA, you can focus on your career and will not hinder managers from booking you for jobs due to long study leave.

Requirements are different for advisory and assurance. I'm not too sure about advisory so I can't say much bout it.

Hi, I am in the confusion in choosing which company to start my career path. I got both offer from PwC and EY. Any advice in term of employee benefit, friendliness, working environment and etc.... Thank you.
*
EY and PWC are both very good.
You can choose based on:
Client portfolio
Benefits (last i heard, pwc has slightly better benefits in terms of allowance)
Quantity of friends in that firm

I seriously have friend who interned at pwc but joined EY cause he got more friends in EY.

Hi guys just wanna know how is the audit job matrix in big 4?

is it like this?

1. Audit Associate(Year 1)
2. Senior Audit Associate (Year 2-3)
3. Audit supervisor (Year 4)
4. Assistant Manager (Year 5)
5. Manager (>5 years)
6. Senior Manager
7. Director
8. Partner

If I come from mid firms with 2-3 years exp in audit can enter as senior?
*
1. Audit Associate(Year 1 & 2)
2. Senior Audit Associate (Year 3-4)
3. Audit supervisor/assistant manager (Year 5)
4. Manager (>5 years)
5. Senior Manager
6. Director
7. Partner

Your progression/promotion is dependent on your appraisal.
There are people who got below average rating and have to repeat their ranking

Whether you can join big 4 as senior with 2-3 years experience depends on your performance at the interview
the interviewer will assess whether you have the competence to be a senior

Just applied one of the big 4, they turned down my application. I didnt involved in any clubs and sports, cgpa around 3. is it impossible to get into big 4?

There are a lot of people with good results and good club curriculum.
You have nothing to impress the interviewers.
If you are given a chance to go for the interview, you have try really hard to sell your skills/strengths that can't be seen in your results.

Other alternatives:
Complete professional papers with flying colors and join
Start at medium firms and then hop

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do prefer PwC over EY but only for the 'name' because it seems to be more prestigious to get into PwC rather than EY from what I've heard from people. I was wondering how true is this. Also, another thing I've heard is that EY's culture is very friendly and PwC's can be a little snobbish. Well, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm trying to find out whats the difference between working for these two firms.  smile.gif

I've heard about the culture thing as well. I myself am with EY so I can vouch that the culture here is indeed very very friendly. We have supervisor and staff coming from PwC too. I myself haven't really worked at PwC before so I can't say much. There are still chances of running into bad senior and manager in EY.

You might wanna choose firm based on their clientele if you know what company you wanna audit.

i have a few questions to ask and i hope someone can enlighten me biggrin.gif cheers

1. What does an audit associate normally do in big4 KL?
2. Is proficient in Bahasa Melayu is a "MUST" in this industry?
3. Do we need to write reports in a daily basis as an audit associate?

I am a fresh grad with no experience in working, and i don't have a good writing skills, so i am a bit worried, i hope someone can provide me with useful comment!!! Thank you so much!!! smile.gif

Audit associates get to audit the easier sections.. Depending on the staffing though.. If the firm is very short staffed, they'll let you handle the whole file if you're competent

Better to be proficient in BM if your clients are all malay.. Basically 90% of my clients are malay.. They speak malay, i reply in English. Proficiency in english is a MUST

You have to document all your work in the audit working papers. I'm really fed up with my juniors' written english. In terms of report, probably issue list or management letter but audit associate don't really get to write them

No experience never mind, as long as you're a fast learner. Everybody loves a competent junior. As for writing skills, its sth that everybody needs to improve..your english seems fine to me.

I really hope the first job I get after graduate is audit related job. I want to learn stuff.

maybe I should consider BDO if another 2 firm rejected me.

Can always join mid tier first then join back big 4 but experience will be discounted
