Dear all future Big 4 applicants.

I have a simple request of all of you.
Do learn how to use Ms Excel (at least know basic formulas etc) and Ms Word before you start work. Please.
Don't drive your future seniors up the wall and make us don't want to confirm you.

I don't think I'm asking too much here.

Know how to link cells, know how to add rows, add columns, know how to use =SUM() and know how to create percentages.
Basic enough?

Overall standards rise, but the bell curve remains. There is always someone below the average.

Hardship allowance is given based on ranks/positions. maybe something like 2xx for junior and 4xx for seniors ????
*
Rm600 in EY to be paid in April for months Jan-April (so they'll get RM2.4k in april itself for seniors)
RM500 in PwC to be paid monthly, each month (RM2k in total)

How much if u r not performing? The lowest scale for 2-3 years exp.

I've seen people stuck as an associate after 2-3 years simply because they weren't cut out to take the responsibility

Nah. Lies. KPMG is still bigger in FS. PwC only has.. uh.. CIMB and RHB. Nothing great.

I admit that PwC is quite big in FS, but they aren't "dominating" per say. The big 3 is still split amongst 3 parties, and KPMG has the larger share of the foreign banks.

Thanks a lot, actually I'm still a student, just need to mentally get prepared for my future lol
*
Lemme give you an advice. Don't bother getting mentally prepared now. (though, I applaud your commitment)
Jump in, try to take the shit that happens, and if you can take it, stay. Words can say much, but it is the first hand experience, feeling the huge expectations, the confusion, and the exhaustion taxing your body, then you know whether you can take it or not.

Personally for me, January - early June is my peak period, on average every day work, (6 - 7 days per week, on average about 9am to 1-2am on weekdays, 11am to 6pm on weekends). But that's cos I'm a senior and I can manage my workload and bosses accordingly. Back when I was an associate it was (7 days a week, 9am to 2am every day).

Do note I'm considered one of the luckier ones smile.gif (I dare say one of the best in my dept, because my portfolio is relatively manageable and reasonably staffed) If you're unlucky (and you're more likely than not), like most of everyone is, you'd be putting in the mad hours everyone else talks about.

Hi,

Do any of you guys have idea on the salary range of audit seniors and audit manager among big 4 firms.  I just got an offer to work in one of the Big 4 for RM75xx a month (all in).

thanks in advance!
*
Do u have audit bckground? For seniors the range is 3.8k (at least it used to) to 5.5k (2nd year seniors or AMs).

AS for managers it's 7k+ (bck then). Im not sure whether there is any revision for managers upward since. 7.5k seems reasonable lol

thanks thanatos!  Actually, I've been in audit for 6years in another big4 firm (2yrs as audit manager).  I just wanna know if the offer they gave me is already reasonable, whether i still have room for negotiation because now I don't have idea on the average salary of an audit manager among big 4 firms in malaysia.

you said "as for managers it's 7k+ (bck then)"  i would like to know when was it, like 1-2years ago?  biggrin.gif
*
The floor for managers in PwC was 7k 2 years ago. Not sure about how other firms are, but I'm guessing within that range.

Hi, any one working at Deloitte? Can share with me the working culture at Communications & PR Department? Is it a systematic working culture or 'casual' working culture? I prefer formal, poised and systematic working culture.
*
No certainty here, but from hearsay, the PR and communications department of Deloitte does not seem to be the best of the Big 4s. I suppose either PwC / EY has the best in this aspect. That said, it's just rumours, and what do we know about rumours smile.gif

Thanks for your inputs.

Well, I do not know any one that working at PwC nor EY and I don't see both of them advertising vacancies so I can only go for Deloitte's.

So, no one seems to know the working culture at Deloitte's PR & Communications Department?
*
Ironic isn't it, for PR, they aren't very well heard of. (Actually, same goes for the rest of the big 3s. I haven't heard much of the PR/Comm dept in PwC/EY/KPMG either)

Maybe that's part of the plan.

Though from internal communications in my firm though, PR/Communications dept appear to be a firefighting dept, especially when they get tangled in some financial fraud or saga

Hey! I just sat for my ACCA optional papers and was recently offered a conditional job offer pending on my results by PWC and EY. I'm currently torn between both.

I personally prefer consumer product/services line, which I highlighted in my CV and during interviews. If I join PWC, I'll only know which industry line I get into once I start work. But I was interviewed by a manager from CIPS, not sure if that indicated anything.

Meanwhile I've been offered a position in EY's REC department. I've been told there's not much difference between the industry line, as only Financial Services is really specialised.

Is there anyone who is familiar with EY's REC department? I only have friends in FS/Services so I'm not too sure about REC.

If any of you have any input on which place is best to launch my career, I'm more than happy to hear your honest opinion.

Thank you. smile.gif
*
Hahaha ironically CIPS and REC are more in common than you think. In both CIPS and REC the core clients are property clients (in CIPS case it's Sime Properties) and for REC (as it's name suggest real estate and construction). SO personally, both is about the same.

I say given your timing of joining I think go for EY would be better. PwC always late at salary adjustments and all smile.gif
