Any razor sharp lens for portrait shots? I'm kinda unsatisfied with not-so-sharp kit lens (18-105mm) of mine on D90. Any recommendation and RRP?

can suggest me ani good & cheap walk around lens...?
might target one for my gf's combination...
current in mind is 18-70...
see if ani good lens wif VR or VC or something...

If 50mm f/1.8d versus 35mm f/1.8g, which one is better for d90?
85mm f/1.4G - RM 4.6k
70-200 VRII - RM 6.8k
135mm f/2DC - RM 4.5k
200mm f/2. - RM 16k

Is there any 3rd party equivalent lenses that costs cheaper than these? I broke already...

35mm is good, but the length perhaps? so can't get so nice shallow deph of field=.=

3rd party equivalent,

50mm Sigma F/1.4 ( RM2200 )
85mm Sigma F/1.4 ( Rm3800 )

OR

Nikon 85 f/1.4D ( New is RM3500, 2nd hand probably around Rm3000)

How can you compare 35mm with 50mm. The angle of view is different. It does different things. Like apples to oranges.

There are no equivalents. If you wanna play, you gotta pay.

16-85 to 17-55 is nono adi...
prefer price around 18-70 there lar...

Can explain more how the 35mm F2D is better den 1.8G?? Hmm... I dunno much, F2D sharper at F2 compared to 1.8G?? I juz know the F2D can focus real close only

Thats cos its was a noob question... and the standard answer has always been a fast telephoto.

I cannot spot any 35mm F/2 at BTS, i went there the other day to test out other lenses 

Hahaa..... dammn, feel like selling off the 35mm n get the sigma 50mm    my 1.8G can't do much =.=

35mm is useless on crop for me, I get the sigma 50mm anytime, way better in terms of bokeh, colour and sharpness

85 f/1.8 handling is very weird on big camera like D700, for me i can spot the colour difference compared to 1.4D... 1.8D is like missing something, not to mention the focus ring keep turning everytime u AF  ..

No la.... the composition a bit wide to b a designated single person portrait, I like the 50mm length after i use my 17-50, n keep full zoom at 50mm for portrait   den very seldom use da 35mm jor  not to say the outcome not nice la, when i say the quality of 35mm not good I oso don't feel so, jz I prefer 50mm in composing a portrat 

Well it's personal preference really, i just don't like the 35mm on crop, same as 50mm on FF(that's why i am getting a 85 1.4 to replace it, hopefully soon    )

Well, in my own experience, i found 35mm 1.8G was very sharp wide open, at least for my copy..and in US G version is more popular than the D version. the only problem i had with my previous 1.8G is persistant backfocusing problem. after sending to Nikon it came back front focusing so i sold it. comparing to 50mm 1.8D, my 35mm 1.8G is way sharper. but i have no experience with 35mm D. here are some sample photos i took at f1.8, direct convertion from raw to jpeg

KYCY I have out of topic question. well I am wondering have you ever use 3rd party lens on your nikon body? since you are a very big fan of Nikon original lenses instead of using 3rd party lenses.
do you found it fascinating?

  Well maybe i didnt pixel peep that one..but what about this one..and i had no experience with 35mm D, just comparing to 50mm 1.8 



and as i mentioned i found my lens focusing is unreliable..the first shot of that guy came out like this..so no more 35mm 1.8G for me

Wow , rich, 24mm f/1.4g, nice lens  ...currently on 24-70 + 70-200, need a prime 

I was using single point actually, never use auto area..i took around 500+ pictures dat day, around 100+ were backfocused..at one point, i took the same pic of a person several times and all of them (around 4-5 times) were backfocused..that made me realized sumthing was wrong and then i checked all the pics i took dat day and i found out the prob.. didnt realized it at fisrt coz not so obvious on the camera's lcd
Haha I agree, more sharpness need to spend more i guess    maybe I will try 35mm f/2 in the near future and see how do i like it..
