Its EVF btw, if I was to correct your statement. A33 can last about 7xx shots if you reli push em. Therefore, the batt life in A33 is underrated severely.

Well yea. D3100 is better compared to a LX-5 but if you willing 2 consider other brands, there is sony A33 for you.

Well, 2.1k can get you Sony A33 with kit, if i recalled correctly. If not, D3100 maybe better but as warned by kytz, there is no Build in AF motor, therefore need 2 buy AF-S lens which are slightly more pricey.

Other than its has a translucent lens that enables AF during videos, nothing different from D3100. Sony has built in Stabilization in the Body so lens without Stabilization can be used easily. Though we do not have as much lens like Canon or Nikon, we do have older Minolta and coming soon lens from sony lol.

Erm, not sure about Canon but can try Creative Damansara. There's quite cheap. Lol. Nowadays users all think about brand over camera XD
Go test out the cameras at the respective shops and then decide.

Trust me man, do look around 4 other options. Don't always listen to recommendations. Go to the shop, don't listen to the sales person, and test the heck outta the camera that you are interested in. Dun be like some people, buy dy, not nice soon waste $$ go jump ship or change body.

Buy the one which you like most. Go Nikon Center/Canon or whatever and test the respective cameras.

Just recommend what you think is accurate, but do not make blatant conclusions. Just ignore what he post or just correct his facts without the need to make such a mess.

here's the thing, my brother wanted me to buy a DSLR camera for him as he needs
it for his course that he is taking now. but, the problem is, i know nothing about DSLR
and surprisingly enough, my brother know nothing also.

he asked me to buy a nikon D3000 and with the budget of RM1500.

i surveyed a few months ago at Lowyat and gained an insight on the price.
it is around rm1550 for a new camera that includes :

a tripod
the bag
memory card (2g or 4g, sorry, i dont remmbr)

im in need of fellow lowyat user to give me insight on what to check when buying a DSLR,
tips, precaution or anything when buying the camera. tq~ im a noob in DSLR.
every help is appreciated.

A33 is the newer tomorrow, with built in AF motor. Unlike D3100 that need to have AF inside the lens. Lens with built in AF cost way more than normal lens.

Expand your budget for D3100 or Sony A33 instead. Both around 2.2k max. D3100 should be cheaper. This DSLR with last you for quite some time. Buying low end ones will cause you to change to a better one. Therefore, might as well buy a better one than a lower end one if your budget permits.

Not reli. Multipurpose lens would serve better but reduce IQ compared to other lens.
And 60D's dial not very hard to twist.

IQ = Image Quality.

Versitile lens do not have "GREAT" IQ. They usually have decent IQ.

Sony A33 has panaroma sweep if that is what you mean from your post. Otherwise, Canon would do fine also for you. Budget, not stated?

Try Sony A55 or perhaps A33 twin kit. If not, you got 550D from Canon.

Its down to 550D n A33 for you. Both are quite decent, but A33 has a twin kit for the price of 2.5k lol.

Try places like lowyat, sungai wang or smaller shops. Usually, the prices there are lower compared to big name shops.
