QUOTE(Shinichi @ Feb 16 2011, 09:19 PM)
I search online and most rooms advertised are common rooms. May I know if common room refers to small room or utility room?

I'm going to change around SGD 1500, will bank give better rate compare to money changer?

Thanks.
*
Common means normal room. Not master room. Quite big and decent for 1 person actually. May be a bit cramped if sharing two person.

You can check online rates via the bank's website. CNY ketuk season over already, although I believe the rates online is still slightly better currently. Some changers will quote a higher rate if you change a large amount, depends on them. Rates are usually better in Sg compared to JB/Malaysia.

May i know wat is 18-55 and 18-105? lol.

Then i might be going for some DSLR at the price range of 1.5k with lens. Hmm, which brand is good i am not tat sure also. My mind only have olympus, canon and sony or maybe Panasonic. But Canon camera seems crappy for me, i mean for the compact one, not for the DSLR
*
Haha give Pentax a try. The K-x and K-r is the best bang for the buck right now. Offers lots of new technology in the body allowing it to grow with your skills. Lens wise it's the cheaper than Canikons and their Limited lens are especially mouth watering.

I got my K-x second hand for about $450, you don't need a better body than this....spend the remaining money on a good pair of lens or flash. The kit lens are among the sharpest when it comes to kit too. I believe a kit K-r will will run about $750, and I would not hesitate to pick up the 55-300mm twin kit bundle if they have it.

Apple had a booth there, I thought they would at least have a display unit.

I usually go for sandisk memory since they have been good to me. Kingston not so bad and i've had no exp with transcend.

But 32GB for 90 dollars aint so bad. Got myself a 16GB sandisk at the fair last nite. Damn pack.

Anybody from keppel fels can enlighten as to why keppel hires a person to tell people off that they cant leave the yard area around lunchtime. Yesterday i was held back by some arsehole who didnt give me a clear reason why i have to wait until the siren goes off at around 11.55.

Luckily one of the transocean guys who i was accompanying just told me to f*** off that fella and join him in the van to the head office.

now very simple, once they look at your cpf statement they know roughly how much you earn. If your cpf contribution hit the ceiling, means Platinum card for you smile.gif

I thought it's quite easy to hit the ceiling?

QUOTE(jasperng @ Mar 28 2011, 11:31 AM)
Hey guys , I got offered with SGD 2.3k but with 2 years bond ... It's a shipyard company ...

Personally, I am expecting atleast 2.5k which eligible for me to apply for EP . I think this employer is not going to apply EP for me given that range of salary ?

Btw, Im fresh graduate with master but only has internship as working experience.

Do you think I am underpaid given that I have to be bonded with the company for 2 years ? ...
*
QUOTE(jasperng @ Mar 28 2011, 01:28 PM)
Thanks ! ill check.
I dont have other option. I only went to this interview for singapore .. apparently they are the only company who replied among applications i have sent out T.T ...
Not much analytical thing to do here. It's either take up the challenge and work for 2 years there or wait for other option.
May I know what engineering are you ? Civil ?
It's bonded for 2 years. It's considered as permanent staff.
Mine is subsidiary of keppel group. It is said that i dont get some benefits as keppel's employees do =( (most probably the lucrative yearly bonus).

Added on March 28, 2011, 1:30 pm

I agree with you ..... I dont expect 3k given that i have no experience . But 2.3k is too low to me .
*
Which subsidiary is that? Seems rather low considering 2.5K is the norm for fresh grad with degree. Better check with them if you get the yearly bonus otherwise you will be losing out a lot. Anyway the bonus amount varies between business units. Also seems funny that you are a permanent staff but are not entitled to full benefits.

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Mar 28 2011, 01:34 PM)
Are you in keppel gul, keppel fels, keppel benoi or keppel singmarine?

Im now in keppel fels, attached to transoceans key gibraltar jackup rig. Recently went down to keppel benoi, was surprised that the ship frontier phoenix was there for either some repairs or minor refit since i did some work onboard that ship last year and it wasnt long ago that the ship went to keppel tuas to fix a damaged azimuth thruster.

It aint cheap to drydock in any of keppels shipyards.

If any of you wondered the difference living in other countries compared to your own, you can try to site to see a comparison between to countries.

GSF Key...is it true that one of the staff there likes to take evening jogs around the helideck without PPE? My rig is just opposite yours, in light blue skirt =).

Not sure but i can ask around. I usually come later then the derrick hands and roughnecks.

There was one rig which is currently occupying the drydock area where the GSF Key was. I think its a malaysian manned rig since i hear the announcement on their intercom system being broad casted in both english and malay.
*
Huh I didn't know GSF was drydocked. When I saw it, it was already jacked up at the end of the quay. What's the name of the rig? As I know it, Petronas Carigali doesn't really use JU that much, mostly semi.

everyone always think the the big marine K* is the best with 6 months or 8.5 months bonus...
my manager was from there as apprentice when he was young, many stories from him... smile.gif  hmm.gif
the big K* is not like last time.

on paper there are recommendations of 2 solutions. there maybe more innovative & creative solutions to become 3rd or 4th or 5th or etc solutions.
it is about to think innovatively and create a balance win-win situation for everyone technically & commercially & lawfully.

certain singaporeans just blindly follow & lazy to think or just tai chi. in short, lazy.

Odin not mistaken u can transfer via ebanking now without commission...go check their website...
*
Nothing is free. Definitely there will be some charges. The advertising they are putting up is quite misleading, 0 bank fees or something like that.

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Mar 30 2011, 04:24 PM)
Its either keppel, sembawang or jurong.

My bet is sembawang since keppel tuas recent bonus payout was 8.5.
*
There's two keppels in Tuas. One was 8.5, the other slightly higher =)

QUOTE(crazy25kid @ Mar 30 2011, 05:31 PM)
I tried Pay2Home.
Fix rate of S$9 per transaction to Malaysia.
No hidden charges.
Not sure if there is any other better options.
Can I refer you to register (which is free)?  laugh.gif  laugh.gif
*
That is quite cheap. Usually I do at JP money changer will get charged $10 with slightly better rates. Currently considering opening a Maybank Sg account, as you can transfer directly to Maybank Malaysia via Regionlink with a fee of $15, plus the slightly worse exchange rates for bank.
