QUOTE(seantang @ Dec 20 2010, 09:48 PM) We followed our friend's car from JB to KL then back again.Funniest part, the GPS led us through Malaysia customs then U-turn at the Causeway as it thinks that is the fastest way to get to City Square. Damn embarrassing. |

My bus ticket for a normal 24 seater costed $120 to Penang o.oair tickets are freaking expensive. was wondering if i could car pool. QUOTE(Lester1987 @ Dec 29 2010, 06:46 PM) I am driving back on the 13th, but i originally already book my tickets for CNY, 1Feb from SIN-KUL, then 6th Feb from KUL-SIN, tiger airways. not sure how much does it cost to change name, may u can ask, if not that expensive, then mayb you can take my tickets since i am not using it. After you get your tickets/check in, they pretty much never check your identity again. |

QUOTE(Argiope @ Jan 9 2011, 02:05 PM) Do you guys have any shop recommendation in Sim Lim Square with good service and doesn't potong leher so much? I've always found Best Bargain to be quite good. Anyway I freaking lazy to go Sim Lim buy things, too far. Don't they have online stores to sell stuff? I find that Hardwarezone forums are really lousy, Lowyat has more online sellers than there. I guess Singaporeans will just buy during all those PC Fairs. |

QUOTE(melancholy @ Jan 10 2011, 07:17 PM) As you probably already know, haggling can be expected in smaller shops, but if you try haggling in bigger retail outlets (e.g. Harvey Norman, Courts, Best Denki, etc), the salesperson will look at you funny... hahaha. I personally haven't patronized either, but news from the grapevine is that Fuwell's prices can be cheaper than the stated prices for their competitor shops in SLS. Fuwell has their pricelist online, if I'm not wrong. They probably won't entertain haggling, but you can do your own price comparisons with other SLS shops in the comfort of your own chair. You may perhaps already know that the pricelists of a lot of SLS shops can be found in HWZ and (I THINK) vr-zone. My friend says he haggles at COURTS all the time. It works. I think the salesperson will just earn less commission. Anyway for TVs they usually offer you display sets for sale it discounted prices, if you ask.In Singapore you can't expect haggling with big retail chains, but smaller shops, definitely, because most of the un-established brand name shops do not have a fixed price (unless they clearly state so- and I know sometimes SLS people say their prices are fixed, lol, but I think still can haggle lah... hehe). This can be for practically anything electronic, IT, books, whatever... I don't know about bizgram, though. Sorry Do correct me if I'm wrong anywhere, if anyone is more knowledgeable! My info may be kinda rusty because I haven't been in the scene for a few years liao... heh Anyway, the basic thing which I think a lot of people already know (just stating this for those who don't) is that it's always better to wait till COMEX or SITEX to get bargains on the stuff you need. But beware too, though. Some unscrupulous retailers take advantage of this fact by increasing their prices or give an illusion that their prices have been slashed come COMEX/SITEX when what they're selling is the same price at other places, so that those who are unfamiliar with prices get caught in the hype. Best to do your homework a few months prior to such events so you can compare the prices and find reputable sellers. |

QUOTE(fbjkl @ Jan 15 2011, 10:52 AM) anyone is working in Keppel Shipyard/Jurong Shipyard? Keppel FELS. Bonus among the highest compare to other BU I believe =). Never had experience with Jurong although recently they got a few projects also.which 1 is better? in terms of career advancement, benefits, welfare, bonus? QUOTE(wseng @ Jan 18 2011, 08:49 AM) i'm in marine line but not keppel / jurong. heard so far their bonuses almost alike.. in terms of months. Yes working hours and long and tough, even more so if you are in production. It is the nature of the business. Expect to come in during weekends and holidays as everybody is always chasing the deadline.not sure though about salary. but in my impression Keppel guys looks much better overall. Exposure is super great ... but workload is the huge turn down. Same for both shipyards. if you manage to pull through years in shipyard you might be someone great someday Added on January 18, 2011, 8:51 am any lucky ones got their PR approved these days .. ? QUOTE(crapp0 @ Jan 25 2011, 09:47 PM) It wont be publicize, but it will be in mom records that an accident did happen. A few times fatal accidents do happen in both sembawang and keppel shipyards but u never hear about it unless its has a high death toll count. Wow what happened to the crane driver?? He wasn't in the crane was he?Anyway the accident i mentioned occurred today. One fatality which was the crane driver. I doubt anybody will fuss about it since its not somebody important so no news about it. Added on January 25, 2011, 9:52 pm NS fellas have proper seats with cushion with a canopy over their heads. You'll notice for the foreign workers whose company transport is a vehicle designed to transport goods, it doesnt have the amenities of canopy, or proper seats for that matter, let alone seat belts. So in the case of an accident, these guys get tossed around like rag dolls either in a steal cage out the vehicle they go. But its not really a big deal in singapore since their basically disposable people. |

Waited for 5 hours at Pusat Imigresen Damansara for 5 hours only to tell me they can schedule me for interview on the 23rd Feb. The office advise me to to JB to have my stuff done instead to reduce the hassle -.-.
So now I have to go to JB but tomorrow's a public holiday -.- Frustrating...but a good learning experience. Teach me right for losing my passport. Added on February 14, 2011, 1:09 pmHow long will the Emergency Certificate take to make? I am thinking of driving down to JB tomorrow evening, stay the night then the following day go there to do my missing passport + emergency certificate. Can the certificate be done on the same day? Thanks for all the advice guys.
Seriously contemplating flying down to JB now to get it done...but I don't think I can arrive in time. As luck would have it tomorrow is public holiday but only in Malaysia. Thankfully that means Wed I will be able to go back into Sg if all goes well. That's a relief...I thought had to take 1 month off and my boss will be extremely unhappy about that kind of news... |

Can any1 confirm whether I enter Sg to continue working with only the Emergency Certificate? My friend is saying he was allowed only 1 way travel from Sg to Malaysia using the emergency certificate and waited 1 month in Malaysia to have his passport done.

QUOTE(Shinichi @ Feb 15 2011, 06:29 AM) Hi all, I got my IPA letter last Friday. They took 4 working days to process it. And followings are what I'll need to do: You can rent room usually without producing any documents. Just tell them you already confirmed maybe show them letter from your company or something should be sufficient. IPA is good enough.1 day: 1. Come to SG for medical check-up, wait 3-4 days to get medical report 2. Submit required documents to HR for processing on the same day. They asked me to provide local SG address, do I need to find a room first before provide them this information? Can I provide a temporally address or the address I'm going to stay moving forward? Can I rent a room with IPA letter? 3. EPSC letter issuance, will I get this letter on the same day after done step 1 and 2? Wait 3-4 working days for medical report (can I leave SG during this period?): 4. Head to EPSC for finger printing and photo imagining and then pass collection date will be stamped on EPSC letter. Wait 3-4 working days for EP Card collection (can I leave SG during this period?): 5. Collect EP Card And once I get EP card, do I still need passport to enter/leave SG? What is the process for EP holder to enter and leave SG? Need to go through any special lane during immigration check point? PS: is immigration card = white card? Thanks in advance. By EPSC letter you mean the letter to bring to EPSC? If your company asking you to do all this likely they already have the letter to give you. I believe you can enter/leave Sg at your leisure. With EP you can use the Automated Gate via scanning your passport. Very convenient. Yes to the white card. |

QUOTE(uberlebender @ Feb 15 2011, 10:44 AM) Hi reign226, what is this about EP use Automated Gate via scanning your passport? I understand Malaysians can use it on Malaysia side. But on the Singapore side, if EP can use? Please explain. I've been holding EP for the past 7 months and never use the Automatic Gate at Singapore side. I realize many EP holders don't know this. Next time you want to enter/exit singapore and there is an Automated Clearance Gate lane, just go in, insert your passport into the reader, step into the console for your thumbprint and you can be off your way.The gates are usually always clear. Greatly speed up the entry/exit process. |

QUOTE(seantang @ Feb 2 2011, 02:20 PM) Just went to my favourite moneychanger in Ipoh to exchange some cash at 2.34 (+0.01 above their board rate). Feeling curious, I logged onto Maybank2U.sg and for Regionlink transfer to Maybank MY accounts, they are giving a rate of 2.369. So I immediately transferred again online. Transaction fee is a flat S$15 and max amount is S$20K. Same day credit into Maybank MY account. Looks like Maybank has a pretty good deal right now. http://info.maybank2u.com.sg/personal/depo...regionlink.aspxAdded on February 2, 2011, 2:22 pmShould be okay, especially if you can easily show them that the stuff is not new or used. Your new EP or WP is solid evidence that you're moving to Singapore, hence transporting a lot of personal belongings. According to here flat rate for Regionlink is $20? |
