mconnell dowell is in sg? didnt know that... talking to them in indonesia... lol

the one where the labourer got his head split into 2?

Yup. sembawang's infamous indian national crane operator accident which goes unnoticed, i'll bet you a hundred bucks that if it was a singaporean in place of that guy. It will be sure to have made headline news.

I believe that somewhere in singapore, there is a construction project being handled by mcconell dowell and not exclusively in jurong island. I think it was for the SMRT expansion project but im not 100% sure since i saw their banner at a construction site.

there are thousands of blue collar workers traveling into SG daily. Initially when i am staying in SG, i do feel that there are a lot of Malaysian in my office. but after moving to JB, i can say that the numbers you see is nothing compare to those traveling into SG by bike daily. you can know that they are blue collar workers because almost all of them wear boots, carrying a saw, and equipments for construction. besides those, you can also see a lot of them are factory workers because they are wearing their factory uniform. there is also a lot of Gain City employee traveling in daily biggrin.gif. Lets say they clear 4 person every minute per counter. they have almost 50 counters in the motorcycle side when it is peak hours. imagine they are letting 100 people cross the border every minute by bike alone. the jam starts from 5:30am until 9:00am. so thats around 40-50k ppl per day. haven include those that carry pillion rider. and we also haven include those that take bus. i can say that there is very little Malaysian white collar worker in SG. mayb 80% blue collar, 20% white.

apa ni, tanya iPhone pulak~~ iPhone no stock la.... they say each customer can buy 2 per order and can order 10 per customer. but lets say if u ordered 10 already, just use ur relative's name and order la. apa susah~~ Apple only opened the sales for 2 days and it exceeded the supply by (cannot disclose the amount here, but i can tell u its not little). I also dunno the units that i ordered the other day will arrive or not since they got no stock and even after 2 weeks, they still can't produce the required units that has already been booked.
*
Come on dude, surely your better then this arent you? But then again its not surprising since alot of people are doing this, no wonder theres a shortage of iphones as you mentioned since its not a problem about producing enough phones for demand but a few people gobbling the supply and reselling them. One of my frens bosses son does this by using his employees to help him buy the iphone for him to resell them, but thats not as douchee as being a pimp which is also one of his trades.

There will be less foreign worker a few years down the road with the levy getting higher and higher following the new budget announcement. A lot of construction and service provider have start cutting down on foreign workers. It'll be harder to land a job in Sg down the road.
*
Its lose-lose situation since foreign worker wont be able to work in singapore and those who do would carry the burden of a heavy workload since what most SME contractors would just squeeze more out of their foreign workers and threaten them that if they dont perform, they can kiss every finding a job in singapore again. Which is incentive enough for the foreign worker to allow their bosses to abuse them.

looks like its time for me to get myself a degree since S pass levy raise so much. just curious, they said there that a person are entitle for EP if we have salary more than  than 2.5k. also we need to have a professional cert (degree i suppose?) or we can commensurate it with 5 years working experience in a reputable company. so in other words, lets say i work in my current company more than 5 years and got more than 2.5k, so i am qualified to get an EP even i don't have a degree cert, am i right?
*
Why do you call a degree cert?

Its either a degree or certification from an international body.

You can get an EP without the prerequisite of a degree if you have some from of internationally recognized certification and singapore has a lacked of skilled manpower in that sector.

Mechanical engineering certs such OHSA and welding inspector certs are one of them, for the computer side, you've got cisco certified network professional courses, MCSE, juniper certs and vmware professional certs. Take your pick.

Most ang moh companies, especially those managed by aussie look for hands-on experience first, and then they see what certification you have. Since its easy to get a piece of paper, doing the deed is another matter entirely.

for my case, my only chances are getting ACMT (Apple Certified Macintosh Technician). is that consider a professional cert?
*
It can be considered but then again this certification would only be recognized if you work in apple. It would really be applicable to other systems since apple is a "closed" system so to speak with its niche market.

Unlike MCSE which is a microsoft cert which apply to microsoft products and the use of microsoft products is more widespread compared to apple. Many businesses may microsoft servers but the same cant be said of apple products.

Don't simply say. UM supporter here. Already working and even considering Australia where UM also accepted.  rclxm9.gif

Aussie see your character and experience first b4 paper qualification since a large majority of aussie are graduates which is what differentiate a normal graduate.

Its not surprising to find out that the cabbie whom your riding in has a degree or even masters in chemical engineering but cant find a job in australia. So you think their gonna give you a job just because UM is accepted over there when a local who studies in a local university cant even get a job within his/her academic field?

I don't think they will give me a job just because I come from UM. But at least there's a chance because it is recognised. Not getting it but trying will still give me the fulfillment I desire. They're definitely not going to come knocking on my door. So I say to everybody, just go out there and give it a shot! At least you can truly say u've tried.

Since i face the same situation like ba5tard before, i gonna share this.

For what i know, after staying in Singapore for 60 days, you need to go back Malaysia and stay there for at least 30 days, that is what the white card stated.

Then again, u can re-enter Singapore after 14 days time. BUT... here is the problem, instead of getting 30 days stay, they will cut it into half, only 14 to 15 days allowed. AND... here is another prob, within that 15 days, you can't extend your stay in Singapore anymore.

I try enter using IPA before and i can tell you this, they dun care shit about your IPA.
So here is my advice, you can stay in Malaysia first, until you are confirm to get your EP in Singapore, then you enter and settle it within 15 days.
*
I thought it common sense to wait until you have confirmed that you have the employment pass before entering into singapore. Why so "kan chiong" as the singaporeans like to say.

Any idea where to get cheap and fresh fruits in SG? FairPrice?
*
Either most major supermarket or your local wet market.

Ive found you get a better selection and fresher fruits from the wet markets. Unfortunately my wet market nearby my place was closed down and replaced with a shen siong supermarket.

Correction, you can get alcohol. You just need to know who to get it from.

Just ask some of the engineers at either Shell BSRC or murphy oil. They'll hook you up with Heineken.

You and every other south east asian person would choose australia as the country of choice to migrate.

Recently on of my friends got the opportunity to work there since his PR application was approved. Just like that he dropped everything he had and moved over there.

Any project name in Keppel for your gibraltar jackup rig ? Bxxx series ?

What is NDT ?
*
There is only one Key Gibraltar Jackup rig in keppel fels, currently under maintenance. Plus its under transocean and i believe its the only transocean rig in keppel fels.

You cant really miss it since it has the transocean logo prominently displayed on the rig itself.

Non-destructive testing.

well i think down the years, finding job in singapore is a bit tough for freshie becoz the salary threshold for passes will be increased...
i juz read it through here... http://news.xin.msn.com/en/singapore/artic...umentid=4698709
*
Then just work in malaysia for a year or 2 and move onto singapore with some experience under your belt.

The salary threshold affects the majority of office workers.
