QUOTE(C-Note @ Nov 30 2010, 06:20 PM) hey guys, i'm planning to get either the galaxy S or Desire HD. Need users feedback from you guys. Any major problem with the Galaxy? I heard the Touchwiz UI really lags it up and tweaks are needed to resolve it. But since i'm getting a new set I wouldn't want to risk messing it up and bricking it. If you're not keen on tweaking or messing about with custom kernels or firmwares, I'd recommend you not to consider SGS. Out of the box, a number of issues need 'fixing up' - the phone is full featured, but laggy.. Anyway, just looking at the Desire HD specs, I suspect its battery life will be pretty shit - 12xx mah batt on a phone with a >4 inch display..

Damnit, cyanogenmod 6.1 beta2 is not ready for primetime. Some really cool features that our stock Samsung firmwares don't have, but overall performance is poorer than speedmod+lagfix+tweaks. Camera performance is spotty at best, video playback totally sucks, GPS seemed better and quicker, audio was somewhat softer, stuck with stock keyboard (cannot switch to smart keyboard pro), bluetooth doesn't work, higher batt consumption some more.. I'm back on XXJPO with speedmod now. Thank gawd for nandroid backup/restore.. I think I'll wait for an RC release before trying cyanogenmod again.. P/S The CM devs were not kidding when they said that current CM releases are for 'experienced users' only. Very hostile forum discussion environment and very beta nature of the release makes for difficult time for us not-so-experienced users. Can't blame the devs, really, they're not getting paid to do the work, and noob requests/feedback make them naturally mad as hell.. This post has been edited by kmrdeva: Dec 1 2010, 11:26 AM

Oh yeah, forgot 1 thing. Wanted to ask you guys something. CyanogenMod's web browser has this cool feature - when you pinch zoom a page, the text auto-reflows to fit the screen. Our stock firmware web browser doesn't do that, we need to double tap the screen for it to do text reflow.
Anyone know if this web text reflow after pinch zoom feature can be enabled via s/w or system tweak?

QUOTE(Crossover @ Dec 1 2010, 03:26 PM) U will not void ur warranty by using odin to upgrade ur ROM. However, u will void ur warranty if u ur phone is rooted. So, please unroot it if u gonna claim for ur warranty. Kmrdeva & | Kee |: U also enable all tweaks for ur K10C, any lagfix u applied? You can see my settings in my signature. Getting 1863 or whereabouts in Quadrant score, but it's not a very good indication of real world performance because CyanogenMod 6.1b2 (with built in ext4 lagfix) gave 2130 but was slower overall than what I have now. I flashed up la, down la, kernel la, custom rom la, cyanogen la.. bricked a few times, but always reversible, as long as I have my trusted tool ODIN with me, and the phone still goes to download mode.. QUOTE(ken2291 @ Dec 1 2010, 04:17 PM) I mean what does it do actually?? Not much info on this, probably it's a variation of RyanZa's original OCLF implementation. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...297&postcount=1QUOTE They are ways on how to format and bind the various filesystems. You can chose how you want to format the partitions (data, dbdata and cache), whether you want to use an extra loop device or not, and whether you want to bind some directories from /data to /dbdata. .. .. (If using the overkill scheme using the bind option is dangerous if using too much apps, so you should disable it in the advanced menu.)

QUOTE(Jason @ Dec 1 2010, 04:23 PM) !@#. i am using a macbook.. so..flashing our SGS is a pain in the elephants buttock for me.. times like this i wish i bought an iPhone going to Kies my phone to Froyo, then speedmod kernal it via Odin... i'm stealin pc time from my colleagues.. kmrdeva: you still on ext2? any issues yet? i will also go the ext2 route.. I read somewhere that you can install virtualbox on a mac and then have a guest winxp OS running to use ODIN and flash your SGS. Also, there is another tool called Heimdall which is multi platform and has the basic features of ODIN, but runs on mac and linux. I haven't tried it before, though. I had ext2-all lagfix scheme a couple of days back - no issues. But I am noticing better performance with ext4nj-all so am using this instead for now.

Tak suka OC kernels, because I prefer optimization in batt life more than any cpu overclocking.. The SGS is fast enough as it is, at 1GHz. Just my 2 sen's worth.
I see kalpik and a few other chaps 'pushing' hardcore to enable OC in speedmod. I really hope he doesn't. OC was the reason I moved from super-optimized kernel to speedmod kernel in the first place.

QUOTE(Joker87 @ Dec 2 2010, 12:22 PM) need to add ppl to chat like msn? Not really. Whatsapp ID is your phone number, actually. So when you launch it, it checks your phone contacts and lists all your friends whose phone numbers were registered in Whatsapp database. Very handy actually, I discovered quite a number of BB and iPhone 'buddies' on whatsapp. Blaady 1 year trial now ah. Damn, I paid USD1.99 for a 1 year subscription just because the trial was then only 10 or 20 days..
