nekromaniak... yes, should be possible, and it would give you a very original tone (and probably some high-end effects pedals/racks to process your sound). however, i recommend you go for the 'fat' telecaters = with a humbucker in the bridge.
maybe you knew, but marylin manson guitarist uses a telecaster (google "john 5 signature telecaster")

QUOTE(Pix @ Mar 15 2006, 04:23 PM) maybe you knew, but marylin manson guitarist uses a telecaster (google "john 5 signature telecaster") There's two versions .... More info: J5 Telecaster® This guitar got Seymour Duncan® Hot Rails(tm) humbucking pickup at the bridge. More Info: J5 Bigsby® Telecaster® Edit: Oh yea, these two guitars are not "cheap" This post has been edited by TheWhacker: Mar 15 2006, 04:43 PM

QUOTE(dilin @ Mar 15 2006, 03:25 PM) just checked out harmony-central's forum. A guy said, as far as he knows, "SX uses ceramic bar magnets, not staggered alnicos.." Any comments? Hi dilin, ceramic magnets are used in most EMG Active pickups and most of the hotter pickups. The sound produced is more compressed and less vintage whihc makes it more suitable for metal/hard rock as compared to the alnicos. If you're a vintage guy, it's definitely alnicos all the way. first of all, thanks for all the help! PIX: how do i differentiate a standard tele fron a "fat" tele? pickups at bridge/neck? obviously im going for SX here..tight budget.. not the ori fender/squier... Xynobis: cool clip thanks! mind showing me the tab of his playing, its a bit too quick, and im still a newbie..so.. looks like i need to learn how to play some simple rock 1st before i move into the metal region...heh! if i can get SX's mockingbird thru woh fatt, then i'll definitely go for that.. but if they dont , then i'll have to choose between a lp copy(humbucker right?) or tele copy..which is hard.. Hmmm dilin, I think you're a bit confused... Alnico is a type of magnet. Alnicos are further categorized to Alnico II, III, IV, V etc, tho IV is the more popular one. DiMarzio & SD both have a wide range of alnico pups, not too sure about EMGs tho. This post has been edited by led_zep_freak: Mar 16 2006, 04:29 PM

CUZ SLASH USES IT lolol jk with the fanboyism anyway.... the alnico numbers represents the strength of the magnetic fields right? and hence the output? aww... my guitar is on ceramic magnets [its hotter than alnicos right? n less "musical"]

I'm not too sure, as far as I know, alnico II is known as poor man's alnico IV as the price of II is only half of IV. Tone-wise, they're similiar. III is mellow and darker compared to the rest, hence suitable for jazz & blues. V has the most output, hence suitable for heavier rock styles. IIRC, Kinman uses Alnico 8 for their pups. Yup, ceramic is hotter than alnicos and less musical... neither is better, it's all about preference. This post has been edited by led_zep_freak: Mar 16 2006, 10:01 PM

QUOTE(gizmoduck @ Mar 15 2006, 04:08 PM) Hmm.. that's odd, cuz my fren who opened up the guitar said otherwise. Its the squiers that use bar magnets but not SX. thats why the tone is so much brighter than squiers. Maybe its a new batch? U never know with these China guitars, the new Sx telecasters have strat headstocks (in their websites ) are the new VST series better than the previous SST series? The VST has kick-ass Fender headstocks, while the old SSTs have a cheaper looking headstock... Does woh fatt carry the new VSTs? Can anyone else verify that SX uses alnio pole pieces? GAS coming on... Thanks
