1080p TVs or upconverting DVD players will create too much scaling and noise in the image. Scaling is bad regardless how good the scaler is. You want to always display the video at its native resolution.

Not agreeing or disagreeing, but this is an interesting comment... definitely a purist perspective.

Same like playing CDs - some say AVR/amp should be on neutral,, never extra bass or treble - music is to be played the way it was encoded... hmm.gif

the argument of DVDs quality playback on HDTV is the same old argument as
watching VCD is as good as DVD... hmm... now all say VCD sucks...
kekeke

also the concept is also the same as playing a computer game at 320x240 reso on a HDTV is so pixelated... so if you wanna enjoy 1080p movies you can look at alternative Media player that support HD which the cheapest is like RM250... and can go up to RM5K

I am slowing coming to the conclusion, for watching DVD, it may be better to watch it on CRT tv and not HD TV simply because native beats scaling anytime.

i don't. the oversaturated color made my eyes hurt.
then again, to each its own.

slimness don't make any difference for someone who put it on the tv cabinet. i have like 2 feet of space behind my tv.

Try to avoid vivid settings....

I bet if you use the standard profile it should be fine...

Medically speaking, the older a person gets, the more sensitive are their eyes to light. So what appear OK to a youngster may not be OK to an elderly.

sometime you dont set the settings on the LED tv as shown on display sets... Display sets usually set it to very high contrast and vivid to the MAX... what I did is to tone down the settings in the settings menu like set to standard colour, reduce the backlight, reduce the colour from 80 down to 50 and contrast reduce by 20... the LED tv may have the best contrast but you do not need to set it to MAX... just like a FERRARI you do not need to drive it at 300++ KM/H everytime... relax....
