QUOTE(jerrywan @ Mar 10 2011, 12:07 AM) GPUZ stated that memory type is GDDR3..how? QUOTE(lee_what2004 @ Mar 10 2011, 12:08 AM) Easy as that. There is no way they put 2GB GDDR5 in mainstream GPU and mainstream laptop. ASUS is always like that, they advertise judging by GPU clock, as long as it met, for example HD 4570 680MHz core clock, they use that name despite using DDR2 memory clocked at 500MHz instead of DDR3 at 800MHz. I bet with 2GB of VRAM it should clock lower as well

QUOTE(astria @ Mar 10 2011, 12:44 PM) HP used to love DDR2 on their laptops... DV6 is the higher end model, of course the cheaper CQ and G budget line series are pretty much the same as ASUS A and K budget lines

There's no such thing as your RAM get damaged from mixing different vendor, thats just stupid. As long as its the same type of memory (DDR2, DDR3 etc) you will be fine. Most shopkeeper is dumb, don't believe whatever they say

Notebookcheck is not really accurate, don't rely too much on them, they say my GT 520M can't play GTA IV, I just run it on 1366x768 medium setting at 33fps average.
Be happy on what you have, there is always new things comes up. Buying laptop do have a lot of give and take. You just take what you can live without

The 8-cell looks similar like 6-cell on A42J. You know the A42J 6-cell is mostly empty on the side, you can know by knocking on it. So I bet its the same construction, the battery isnt that thick

It looks like it might fit, but the two screw holes might get in the way though. And the cable needs to be bent because the header is in the middle of the board not on side and also facing the other way

QUOTE(pandera999 @ Mar 18 2011, 08:13 PM) my friend bought X42DE, looks smart but, the usb ports too close with one another. its imposibble to plug in usb drive at one time except use usb hub. btw, i wondering some shop sell 1,599 but its net price and gt shop sell 1,499 my friend bought it 1,599 consider 1.6k lah, and another fren bought it for 1.5k.. the other fren seems regret cz buy it expensive rm100 and yet thy receive the same amount of free gift ~~~rm100~~~ different That is why you NEVER buy from the first shop you enter. Always browse around comparing prices, or you will regret later.

QUOTE(astria @ Mar 23 2011, 12:25 PM) with GMA HD and P4GH i think it's possible... even my N81Vp can reach 3.5hr with P4GH... not really sure abt how Optimus work, if the GPU is merely in sleep mode or off mode... IIRC its sleep mode, eats few miliwatt of power, but its a sacrifice to ensure the GPU is ready when the application demands it. Maybe if you override into integrated GPU it will be in off mode. Just an assumption

No, they target for seamless changes between GPU, for consumer its better that way. For power user they don't care much because they know what they doing.
I for one impressed with the seamlessness of the changes, but the drawback is too much, I rather have the MUX changing between the two GPU like in K40AB. I don't game much nowadays but I see plenty of people angry with the new approach. I don't like it either but do I have a choice?

QUOTE(dunkiedonuts @ Apr 10 2011, 12:12 AM) actually after installing a fresh copy of win7, i didn't install the wireless driver from asus website. but now i uninstalled the driver, don't see any yellow and red spikes anymore.but the temp of my hdd is still hovering around 50.-.- The harddisk temperature is considered 'normal' for A42J series, that is the main reason I sold my A42Je. I done absolutely everything to keep the thermal down but the temperature drop only after I remove the harddisk panel open and actively blowing fast spinning fan underneath it.

The CPU and GPU is not the main concern, because it can tolerate much higher heat than that, what concerns me that made me sold my A42Je is the harddrive temperature, just look at that, 48-49C is not a good sight at all, mine could reach 52C when gaming. To compare, on 4743ZG right now while browsing no air conditioner and balanced profile

QUOTE(lee_what2004 @ Apr 16 2011, 12:27 PM) I already knows that, Dufus pointed out few months back when I'm overclocking A42Je and experiencing weird speed when gaming. Great guy, he even made a program to check whether our system is running HPET or not. If you guys TL;DR, basically open up cmd and type this and you were good to go. Run WinTimerTester beforehand to check if there any changes CODE bcdedit /set {current} useplatformclock yes
