Just got back my A42Je, they replaced the mobo because actually I bricked the BIOS on the previous one. But ASUS service quality is down the drain, when I get back home and do some testing the GPU temperature hovering 60-70C idle and shoots up to 100C when gaming.
I need to disassemble the laptop and tighten the screw holding the GPU to return the temperature to normal. Why don't they test it beforehand? They just assume things boot=OK. Thankfully the GPU screw don't have the warranty sticker attached to it

For those who annoyed with A42J keyboard flex you could put the thin foam underneath the keypad. ASUS put it on some location as you could see from my disassembly below, see the thin black foam. I just cut some thin white foam when you got the laptop and put it in strategic places such as bottom and top left of the keyboard for those who gaming. I done that and the keyboard feels much firmer and better to type

You sure there is dust inside? I doubt there is any dust inside if you run it for few months. This is by far the easiest laptop I ever disassemble, next to k40AB. Other manufacturer like Compaq and BenQ are pain to disassemble and reassemble

QUOTE(piumiu @ Feb 25 2011, 09:58 PM) Im buying Asus X42DE tomorrow. Anybody knows where I can get the white color? Most of the seller online I check no stock. I see one displayed on Evernew Digital Mall just now but I don't know whether they got any stock or not. QUOTE(eugenechiuu @ Feb 26 2011, 06:40 PM) Sorry man.. I was too nervous already that time haha.. Forgot to take pic lol.. Check page 36, the first half is exactly the same.. After that is removing some cables n mobo to access to the heatsink which is on the bottom of the laptop.. Nervous eh? It'll get better with time, its the same story as me From my guide there is only a few more screw to access the heatsink. I don't get better result from repasting but I definitely fix the overheating issue those stupid people at ASUS Royal Club did when assembling my laptop. I have sold it though, need smaller laptop

It may, since it have 5 setting or something, so each time you pressed it it will change: disable wifi but enable bluetooth, enable bluetooth but disable wifi, disable both or enable both etc. something like that.

QUOTE(pandera999 @ Mar 1 2011, 01:08 PM) cool?? lets say if 70+ What do you expect? They pack hundred million of transistor in a size of fingernail and coolded down via small surface area heatsink cooled by fan not much bigger than 50 cent coin. My friend laptop idles 80C and games up to 100C, still fine after a year now, its K40AB by the way

Other than downside mentioned, the harddisk is a bit hot. Its not suitable to use on your lap. Like others mentioned, A42Jz is a better buy, faster GPU and CPU for not much price difference

Yup its better to remove the battery, because it will get the heat that comes out from your laptop which in turn could reduce its lifespan.
If you don't use the battery for long time its better to keep the battery level at around 40-50% charge and store it in cool dry place

QUOTE(imin @ Mar 9 2011, 10:58 AM) any definite solution to this optimus problem? Driver, after you update it you should be fine. Also I noticed the latest Adobe Flash 10.2 hate Optimus, always crash when I use nvidia GPU instead of IGP when playing flash videos online, notably YouTube. Use the old 10.1 solve the problem

^No don't be fooled by that, notebookcheck is not accurate. Yes AMD might say so but laptop manufacturer are free to use whatever memory they desire. Exhibit one, HD 4570 in K40/K50AB, it may say it uses DDR3 but no, ASUS decide to use slow DDR2 on it.
With 2GB of VRAM in HD 6570M I seriously doubt they use GDDR5

QUOTE(RedDevils88 @ Mar 9 2011, 09:09 PM) maybe u should untick "hardware acceleration" on the youtube options. my laptop couldn't play any youtube videos until i untick this option. No, I don't have any issues anymore. Everything works fine after I change to older Flash 10.1. Thanks for the tip though now I could just use IGP for flash videos

QUOTE(RedDevils88 @ Mar 9 2011, 10:02 PM) i tried reverting back to 10.1 but youtube said i needed version 12 to play the vid.. luckily my gf found out this solution or else no youtube for me! And also, what cooler are u using? i'm currently looking for one I never get such error, weird. Any flash based website plays without a hitch. I have sold my A42Je. I found out that using cooler don't have much difference anyway. The bottom of the laptop is just hot especially on harddisk area, to make it worse the HSF area is around the area as well. Ventilation in A42J series is bad overall, if you insists of buying cooler make sure it blows on the middle, preferably on mid bottom, that is where the air distribute around the laptop. For my current laptop I just use cheap cooler with three small fan but I remove the fan and use it upside down so it have a lot of air to breath underneath the laptop

Sens some angry e-mail to their Technical Support. ASUS getting lazier and lazier to listen to us, and quality worsen since last few years I been using them.
A42J is the last thing I would ever purchase from ASUS. Ever. Their budget line is anything but good. I used few ASUS motherboard, all their cheap models dead prematurely but the Crosshair II Formula works well and their tech support fix the problem I describe quickly, but on cheaper product they resorted argue with me
