Hey Guys,
I am a newbie here. Just want to check if I am flying one of the cheapo China made WM196 heli. Some how, now when I try to fly it, the rotor spin but the heli no longer take off. How do I check what's wrong with it? I try to fully charge it but it does not help. Changing battery of the controller also doesn't help.

Thanks

Regards,
Chong

r u crash b4? i think most probably is the blade problem, try to check the blade 1st

Yes. I crashed it multiple time and the blades do not looks smooth (got quite a lot of denting as crashed into wire fence and etc). So if I managed to get the blade replaced, it should fly back? Will try to check that out.

Thanks

Regards,
Chong

Additional question:
The stock battery is using :
SHIDA NI-MH 50AAA 800mAh 9.6v.

Wondering if possible for me to change that to other battery to "pro-long" the flight time.

I have interest in this hobby but will want to start "small" and get know to the parts, components and small modification before I can commit if I am really into spending big bucks for this expensive hobby. tongue.gif

that small little heli (most ppl would call it a toy) will never give u a taste or get to know any parts of a proper rc heli ... serious one laa

Ok ..... so I'll need to go into at least the esky lama
Will try to get one of that once the finance minister approve the budget tongue.gif

maybe, very hard to say bcuz it related to ur motor, main gear...

for battery part the answer is yes, but u hav to remember the bigger capacity of battery the heavier it will hav icon_idea.gif
seem u r using nimh battery maybe u can try Lipo battery cuz it much lighter than nimh
*
Thanks.

Did another quick diagnostic on the problematic heli toy this morning. When increase the speed of the blade, it seems like it's moving left even I dial the gyro setting all the way to right to counter the movement.

If I control it to move left while still sitting on the floor (cause it cannot take off), the speed of the upper blade increase. But if I try to move right, the speed of the upper blade slows down and moving toward stationary while the lower blade still spinning.

So I am assuming there's a problem with the main gear connectivity here?

Looks like quite complicated to troubleshoot this issue and should I just save up and buy a proper one or keep on "troubleshooting" this piece of toy?

Dear expert, want to check with you all. Regarding the 3.5 channel toy that I mentioned earlier, the WM-196 large outdoor heli that I have. I found out that I can actually order some of the spare parts from China. My initial suspect is the motor, blade and may be also the POB board (circuit board). Going through the calculation + shipping, it will cost me around RM95 (Assuming I get one set of each). Should I do this or I should just keep this toy heli in the store and save up the money for a big Lama outdoor if I like to fly the heli outdoor?

coaxials like the LAMAs no matter big or small do not like WIND
the bigger ones like the LARGE ESKY LAMA can take more WIND la ... when u can see newspaper blowing around on the floor i think that is when u do not fly your BIG LAMA to be safe

it is not worth it to repair your heli ... it probably runs on BRUSHED MOTORS and will soon wear out again .. same goes for the other part
why ?? coz it is made for the purpose of being a TOY/NOVELTY ... not a hobby grade aircraft ... hobby grade stuff goes up much higher in QC
*
ic ic. So it's not worth the repairing cost then. So which heli is recommended for outdoor? Don't suggest those 2-3k one lah of cos. I am just starting this hobby and really like to fly it outside instead of inside house. (Small unit packed with furniture). Anything less than RM 500?

Yeah, I think you can go with those 4-ch Fixed Pitch heli first. It's a class in between the coaxial and Collective Pitch heli.

The 4-ch FP heli is good enough for a beginner to learn hover and orientation.
*
Thanks for the advises sifus.
Now, a quick check on rcsmart does not really show any reasonable 4ch FP heli available. Any idea which of those local shops in KL having access to these?

Started with 3.5 Ch co-axial toy - small + big heli toys. Hooked, then was looking at eSky Big Lama. Now progress to 4ch FP heli.
hmmm .... am I moving too fast? tongue.gif

By the way, I have already got the eSky simulator. Even if i've calibrate it correctly, upon initialization and flying up, it's always tends to sway to one direction even I am not moving right or left. Just directly lifting it up with throttle only. Is that normal behavior for the simulator (I know in real life it'll sway)?

Morning people. I was practicing on the FMS simulator over the weekend and realized that this is a mode 1 radio controller. The toy RC heli that I have are all on mode 2 operation. Just want to check if it's good to train using mode 1 or it makes more sense to switch it back to mode 2? The suggested walkera 4#6S's controller is mode 1 or 2?

Just wondering which mode is the mode to go.... I am a right hand writer. Does it make a different?

nice. how bout reliability? i hear that it uses brushless motors and thus possibly not as likely to burn out.
would anyone know of a trustworthy dealer in malaysia which also provides spare parts?
*
I am also looking for the at the moment. rcsmarts don't have that ... any one here?
Alternative suggestion? Am looking for something around 500 mm in over all length so that I can do bit of outdoor flight tongue.gif

hmmm .. thinking of getting something more stable. Suspecting HB FP V1 is not as well "setup" as the V2. or probably I've crashed too much on this one. Thinking of changing the rotor head, the main blade and the tail rotor blade to restore some confidence here tongue.gif I am still everything on stock, only change the link like push rod (the figure 8 thingy), the tail boom and tail motor once.

Qiw, that Gaui GU-344 nice ar?
If I want to DIY a quad copter can that be used or not?
Chongster, you can consider to sell your HBFP and use the $$$ to fund a better heli.
*
hahahahhh my HBFP is quite wounded at the moment and I've stocked up quite a fair bit of parts. I'll stick with it at the moment and need to stop myself from thinking of "upgrading" the individual parts to make it better I supposed. i.e. The metal paddle control frame from Extreme (USD 13), a better landing skid (V1's landing skid is just too fragile)....

Most of the bigger heli I saw are going to cost more than than RM 1k? A bit hard to justify to go for a smaller heli that can't be fly outdoor with mild as I don't have much space at home to do this apart from the car porch which is still quite open to wind blow .....

Just changed the fly bar to the Align 450 compatible fly bar. A bit longer, and more durable and more stable flight now. Both are on 2mm But then, I just snapped the paddle control frame's ball. Really thinking of changing this component to metal type...

longer flybar will give u more stability but u have to sacrifice response and speed

I am good to sacrifice the response and speed at the moment so that I got a bit more air (hover) time as I am still very very beginner on this tongue.gif Will still keep the original fly bar for later swap once I get the hovering done properly. wink.gif
